The place was clean and quiet. My appetite for Indian food has always
been good, but since I was very hungry, it was even stronger that
Monday. Here too, their service was fine; kindly, courteous and usually prompt.
My only complaint was that the tables were rather small. We were just two
persons for Lunch. Now, in such a restaurant where
the guests are given a table right near the window (lovely) the hope was that
the good food would fit, with all the glasses etc. This was not always the case.
The table was really small! I suppose I could have asked for a different perhaps
larger table. But, in the event, I did not and my companion did not complain
so I stayed put. BUT next time, I would request a larger table, even if it meant
asking for a table usually set for four persons. That table-size is the only reasons
I did not grant this eating place a five-star rating. In many ways, however, it
was an outstanding experience!
Delicious food, as always!
Fine food. Pleasant servers. Good value, would return.
Food and service was excellent.
My only issue was the lack of variety of rice dishes, that said I definately Would recommend this place.
We had to wait a bit but they made up for it w/free beverages & attentive service. Food always delicious!
The slowest service I’ve ever had at any restaurant. Very discombobulates
Our party of six from out of town was greeted warmly and seated promptly even though we were early. The wait staff was friendly and very helpful in offering recommendations and answering questions about the meal choices. We were served in good time and water glasses were filled throughout our meal. Everyone was pleased with our restaurant choice.
This is a medium-sized, family run, and quiet restaurant immediately adjacent to the Broadway local subway stop - EASY to get to in a pleasant upper West side neighborhood. I would highly recommend this spot to others!
All though the restaurant needs a little freshening up, the food was amazing!
A very special place. The menu is ample, the preparation is excellent, and the feel is friendly and efficient.
I love this restaurant that serves authentic, delicious Indian food. The staff is great.
We always love coming here! I highly recommend the briyani :)
Our family, kids and adults, all loved the breads, curries, and appetizers. Our server even suggested a variation on one dish to give one of us lighter version of a cream heavy dish. The food was excellent. Highly recommended.
Aangan has delicious food. If drinking alcohol, best to stick with wine as mixed drinks are not their forte. We had a birthday dinner which they kindly brought a piece of cake and candle and sang to me which was very sweet. Relaxed atmosphere, so don't feel rushed.
We went for lunch. Besides their regular menu they have 3 thali platters- seafood, vegetable and chicken. We had the seafood one. Yummy! Everything comes in small dishes around a mound of perfect rice. And you get naan! And dessert! We loved everything! We always are impressed by the excellent service and the beautiful chandelier!!
Reliably good food, and very good value.
I love Aangan; I've eaten there several times and I've ordered in from them as well. Always delicious and the waiters there are so sweet and attentive.
Great food, and even though the restaurant was very busy, service was attentive and timely. The food was good to very good, but one should never order it for take-out/delivery - it's too delicate to be dragged all over the Upper West Side.
We love the food here. We live in a neighborhood with hundreds of restaurants all around us, and this one consistently has delicious food at reasonable prices.
The best Indian food in the Upper West Side
The food is really good, tasty and served in good quantity. The staff is super friendly and really made sure we had a good moment. And it was so quiet, perfect for a date. Love it and will go back.
Very modest prices for NYC, low-key and comfortable. One friend and I had the vegetarian lunch combo, the other the combo with lamb. We loved the food and had a great conversation--low noise to permit this is very important to me.
We went for Thanksgiving and had a wonderful meal for 3. They even surprised us with a small plate of turkey for the holiday.
The service was prompt and attentive and the food was authentic and well prepared. My only quibble would be over the samosas that looked and tasted more like crispy spring rolls but were quite delicious nonetheless. The puri and roti were outstanding as was the curry and the Basmati rice. The ingredients were high quality which made a real difference. The lamb was tender and lean and the chicken tasty as was the chic pea and spinach curry. Having had many Indian meals over the years I am a relatively good judge and this place gets relatively high marks.
Chef knows what s/he’s doing - wonderful vibrancy in spices and sauces very distinctive. Refreshingly and impressively different. Keep it up!!
Another consistently yummy meal! Excellent service! And- you can have a conversation, as the noise level is low. Beautiful light fixture and cloth tablecloths provide a good atmosphere. We love the Goan fish curry, palak panir and all the appetizers. Recommend!
The food was fresh, flavorful and well-prepared. The spinach in our saag-based dishes was bright green, tasty and a good texture- not thin or brown. The garlic naan was soft and pillowy. Both vegetarian and meat-based dishes were excellent- some Indian restaurants excel in one or the other. The service was beyond excellent- they accommodated us earlier than our reservation because we had an event after and, glory be, when I left my credit card upon paying, it was waiting for me upon return.
Other than uncomfortably low banquettes this was a terrific meal
AANGAN is a family favorite and a great neighborhood spot. Delicious food with a wide variety of flavors and good value.
This is one of our favorite restaurants, we've never been disappointed. The food is great, and the service is extraordinary. We love it.
Very quiet. Food was good. Would recommend.
Had my birthday here a few nights ago and was quite happy. I booked a reservation for nine but we ended up being a party of ten and the restaurant, which is small, found a way to accommodate us. Food was excellent and well-priced, and there were options for my vegan guests. I highly recommend it!
Always delicious, this remains my favorite Indian restaurant in NY.
It's a mixed bag: spiffy digs, exemplary service, but lamb chops were served well-done when medium rare was specified; take-home food was placed in the wrong bag so the vegetarian folks went home with a passable lamb vindaloo; great appetizers matched with less-than-great main courses due to dry/overcooked meat.
This is my favorite Indian restaurant in NY. Food is always fresh and delicious.
The chicken makhani from Aangan is always delicious! The service at Aangan is great and the staff is attentive. We dined here for dinner this time, but we do love the value of the daily lunch specials.
Such delicious food that didn't mind too much slow service. I think maybe they were down a waiter.
By far, the best Biryani in the city. Great place for a date!
Fantastic food! Good service! Had fun dining there.
Food was good, service excellent. A bit more noisy than I would have liked.
The food was good and there was lots to choose from. The bathrooms were horrible.
