The restaurant first seated us (a group of 3) at the bar, claiming that is what we reserved (not accurate, according to our Open Table reservation). When we asked to move, the staff evinced nothing but displeasure, putting us at a two top while all around us, for the entire two hours of our meal, numerous 4 tops sat empty. The servers ran into our chairs, broke a wine glass on us (I fished shards of glass from my lap), and generally made us feel unwelcome. If you take our reservation, why do you not treat us like customers? I will not return.
Excellent food and wine. Not your run of the mill Italian food. Creative dishes that were delicious
Dispicable service, had a reservation for 8.30 arrived at 8.20 was told table will be ready in 10 mins. Other groups of people came after us, our table was given to them. Spoke with manager, he apologized and gave us free appetizer and free olives. Don’t appreciate free anything expect our reservation to be honored. Ended up waiting 50 minutes
This is the second time this has happened at this restaurant, they need to get their act together and figure out how other restaurants do it.
Won’t be returning
Awesome food and service as always. We made a reservation but came in about an hour early and they were able to accommodate us. Only downside was the noise. It’s very loud in there and by the end of it we just had to leave.
While our over burdened server was lovely, he was just not able to keep up with the number of tables, therefore, the service was less than desired.
Also, the lighting level was so low (in the rear dining area), that everyone was pulling out their phones to read the menu and even see what they were eating. If the restaurant was trying to create "atmosphere", that was lost every time someone's flashlight blazed in my eyes.
The noise level was beyond comprehension and that alone would keep us from ever returning.
One can get good food in a lot of places in San Francisco. But that is only one element of dinner out. I go out with friends to share the evening with them. If I can't hear a thing they say, what is the point? If we all had our noses stuck in our phones, that would be different. But we actually enjoy conversing. Sorry, this one just didn't work for us.
Food was great but very salty. Almost like someone salted it on top just before it was served
Ear-splitting decibel levels (we were literally screaming at each other across the table until we reconfigured so we were both on same side - you may not have that option) accompanies delicious pizza worth going for if that is ok. The clam spaghetti was a salt-lick to the point of almost being inedible (take out the dried tomatoes - over powers the delicate and briney clames) but fried sardines divine. Server very gracious but not confident with the wine list and they’ll want to flip that table!
Excellent food, service, and wine. A little noisy at diner, but a great time.
Great wine destination!
Really love this restaurant
My family is Italian and this is the food I grew up on and it is delicious ... from the soup to the pizza to the salads and desserts ... yummy
Service is professional and the wine list is great
As advertised the Italian wine list is exceptional. Food was first class. The Burrata was the best I’ve had. Seasoned perfectly. I’d go back again just for this . Wine advice was excellent. I had picked a montepulciano which was too “earthy” so was steered to another choice. We had a second bottle it was so good. Only minor gripe was service for food was a little laboured. We could get attention for salt and pepper and ran out of drink and had to get attention. Waiter seemed spread too thinly. Unlike the burrata :-)
Great service - a bit rushed at times
Great place for a business meal. However...the restaurant needs a new roof. There were leaks coming from the ceiling due to the rain storm. Water actually started dripping onto my plate from above. It made a good laugh..but I think the restaurant needs to spend some money fixing the problem before a real pain in the butt customer walks in! Overall...great place!
Wonderful birthday lunch for 2 at the counter, facing woodfire. As always, impeccable service and great meal overall.
An always reliable restaurant for great thin crust wood oven fired pizzas, pasta. I always get their tripe dish. We came here with three other friends to celebrate out joint 140 year old birthdays. They had a winemaker from Italy there that night who came to the table after we bought an $85 bottle of their wine and he was interesting and informative about their wines.
Very doll Jabaal on Italian wines and they bake some very good interesting pizza
We mentioned in our open table reservation that this was a birthday . My husband also mentioned it to the hostess when we checked in . Nothing was fine to acknowledge the birthday. Very disappointing and we would not return
The food was good, but the service wasn't great. The margherita pizza was my favorite--that crust though!
Impeccable service from our waiter Sataya. Food was served hot, not overly salted or seasoned, just fresh ingredients. Definitely recommend the cauliflower and the loin steak. Enjoyed a reasonably priced delicious Italian red as well on Sataya's recommendation. Would probably be five stars but noise is an issue...close quarters and it's really busy in there as you'd expect.
We loved almost everything about A16 in SF. I only wish they offered more gluten free options. I advise them to include a risotto every day and or to offer GF Pasta. Also, please, please put up sound buffers so we can hear each other talk without getting a headache.
Great fun and food. Loved the pizza’s. Our waiter Sean was wonderful with wine suggestions.
Overpriced and small portions for food that was pretty bland.
I love the food at A16, it's always a hit, but this last visit disappointed for two reasons. First, I found that the portion of pasta was small for the price. It was a pasta dish with black truffle and cocoa nibs, which was absolutely delicious, but was what I consider an appetizer size for one person for $31. Second, we were unfortunately seated next to a table of three people who were clearly drunk and crazy loud (one of the men was literally yelling) and slightly obnoxious. They bothered every table around them and the staff did nothing until the man at another table finally complained and the hostess said something to them. That worked for about 5 minutes and then they got loud again. They should have been kicked out of the restaurant for their level of inebriation and yelling. I will return to A16, like I said, the food and service is great, but maybe I'll try the Oakland location.
Valentine’s Day -
Prix Fixe menu
Very festive atmosphere and great staff!
Great food and tasting.
The food and service were good. The music was too loud.
Very yummy food but noise level made it difficult to talk
Service was wonderful. The food was good, but not as great as previous visit.
Loved the kale soffrito, the squash, steak and trout were all delicious!
Pizza and pasta from scratch, can't ask for more. With local, fresh ingredients
My visits are often hit /miss. The food quality is uneven, some dishes are great, others leave you scratching your head wondering whether it's the same team in the kitchen.
I was mentioning this to my wife on my way there and lo and behold, it happened again: one dish was excellent the pizza romana, but the pasta maccaronara had a single note of sun dried tomatoes. That said it's one of the better restaurant in the neighborhood and they have a great wine list.
Extremely loud. Wine markup is a ripoff. ($105 for a $16 retail bottle). Pizza very good. Salad hard to eat as cuts were julienne and long. I felt like a rabbit eating it.
Food was excellent!!the wine menu however way to extended and confusing
For a restaurant like this, make it simpler will work much better
We love “Di”
It was good. Pizza so good and burratta delish, pasta meh
This restaurant is completely downhill from few years ago. The music was so loud and so upbeat. The décor is so dated with christmas light still wrapped in late January. The food was just ok and the pizza seems like the best of our meal but I can easily find similar pizza quality down the block and pay cheaper price and better services and decor. The staffs are friendly but Management seems very unprofessionally, no smile or Hello while guest walk by or ask questions.
While our first experience was rather disappointing (any restaurant can have an off night), we decided to give it a second go. Helen, the delightful manager of A16, was quite apologetic and extended a goodwill gift card. Wow - what a difference. Bottle of southern Italian red wine paired with the Salccicio pizza and followed by a perfectly seared trout was merely complimentary to the excellent service of our waitress and their in-house sommelier. Very impressed and will certainly return soon. Thank you again Helen!
GREAT FOOD!!!! AMAZING SERVICE!!!!!! AWESOME RESTAURANT!!!!!
Great menu choices. Reservations honored;knowledgeable friendly staff.good pacing of food delivery.
I booked this on the basis of a 'best restaurants in SFO' online guide. I had bean soup, chilli pasta and a (fig?) tart. The soup was OK, the pasta was flavourful and enjoyable and the tart was dry, cold and basically inedible. I was given two slices for some reason. It needed to be more fruity, warmed up a little and served with some kind of sauce to counter the dryness. My server credited the tart from my bill, which I regard as good service. I had three glasses of sparkling wine: white, red and rose and they were all enjoyable. This struck me as a step up from a neighbourhood pizza joint but based on my experience, I can't give it more than 3 stars.
