Please note - standard tables are located in our main dining room and covered atrium room. High top tables are in our intimate, cozy wine bar towards the front of the restaurant. You can reserve the chef's counter as well. Walk-in reservations welcome.

A16 is a Michelin rated and James Beard Award Winning restaurant bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. Executive Chef Yosuke Machida carefully selects local, organic produce and meats to prepare a daily menu specializing in wood oven-fired Neapolitan pizza, braised meatballs, vibrant salads, pasta and local meats and seafood dishes. Owner Shelley Lindgren works closely with a well-versed, hospitable service team to bring one of the SF Bay Area's celebrated wine and food destinations.

    Have gone to A16 on and off throughout the years and always valued the excellent Italian food and extensive Italian wine list. Waitress this time was excellent, but the menu was limited and the the food just OK; certainly overpriced for the quality. First choice of wine was on the wine list but not available. Chocolate tart desert was dry and bland. There are so many excellent restaurants in San Francisco, so I will probably not be returning to A16.

    Thankfully hostess helped us change tables. The noise level was horrible. Food is amazing; wonderful explorations of fresh cuisine in new ways. Service is always extraordinary.

    Great location and vibes for a date night but not a fan of the food. we ordered the chicken and gnocchi, plus mushroom pizza. Not a fan of the vision of the entrees. Smells and tastes were funky in my opinion, and I’m a traditional fan of Italian dishes. Service and location were perfect though. Only issue was the food itself. Not worth the hype.

    It was recommended to request the counter, and we were seated in front of the entree chef. What a treat! We watched our chicken, pork chop, and halibut entrees prepared and cooked in a wood fired oven right before us. All were excellent, with a nod to the pork chop. Staff are very attentive. The restaurant ambiance is warm and inviting, and full of energy; a perfect blend of fun and festive; but not overly loud. Very highly recommended!

    The waitress was not well seasoned. Raw and didn't have a clue on how to handle guests. Slow is an understatement. Food came out at different times. Steak overcooked. Pizza fantastic. Would go back but they need to train their staff how to be great. UPDATE....The restaurant manager contacted us after I sent them a message. WOW. They do take it seriously and apologized. They will check into the waitress and give her that little extra help to make her a wonderful waitress. Thank you A-16.
