Absolutely delicious food! The appetizers were particularly good - I recommend the sardines, the meatballs, and the shishito peppers. The pizza was amazing!
Lovely as always. Thanks for taking care of us
Took the server about 15 minutes to take our drink order, followed by about a 25 minute wait to take our food order (mind you this was at 9pm, long after rush hour). Our server dropped a glass on our table, breaking a glass of wine, staining our clothes, then didn't offer anything other than comp'ing a single drink. Food was very average for how much it cost. Ended up taking left overs home, adding a few seasonings and it tasted substantially better. Very underwhelmed with the experience.
Worst meal I’ve had in San Francisco. Service was bad, waited 30 min for our drinks and the steak was sent back because it was way over cooked. Yuck
Great food, ambience and customer service. Excellent wine selection.
Great food and an excellent Italian wine list. Too much noise was the only problem. This is a place we frequently visit.
I was really looking forward to trying A16, my first time. Our group of 4 ordered 2 appetizers and 4 entrees. Before our second appetizer arrived, 3 entrees arrived. The second appetizer and 4th entree didn’t get fired in the kitchen for some reason. There was so much confusion and we couldn’t find our server. We had to get up from the table and track down the young lady who opened our wine. They seem to have a team waiting concept that allows a lot to fall between the cracks. Poor service can ruin the nicest food and unfortunately it did for us that evening. The saving grace was that the manager on duty came and spoke to us to apologize and make things right. That went a long way to at least partially repairing the experience. I know that staffing and ramping up after Covid has been extremely challenging, however it seems to me that the team waiting concept needs improvement at A16. I will go back and give it another try, but if service is poor again it will be the last. The pizza is excellent.
extremely poor service, it’s a shame for the price you are paying. 20% automatic gratuity may be the culprit? was served the bottle of wine we ordered half way through eating our main course, after waiting 30 minutes and eating the only delicious thing on the menu - the meatball appetizer. i do not recommend the gnocchi. took 15 minutes to even get our waiter to take our order. Overall very disappointing.
One of the greatest Italian wine lists in America. Served by one of the greatest sommeliers, who is also the proprietress.
Overall a pretty solid experience. We sat outside at a table that was pretty warped, which made it somewhat difficult to share family style. Overall the food was good. The Trippa and bucatini were lackluster, but the melon salad and Bianca pizza were excellent. Service was pretty decent, but not as attentive as one would hope. We also asked for extra bread for the trippa and never received. We had a later seating, so the outdoor area was being packed up as we finished, which detracted slightly from the overall experience.
As a single diner with a reservation at the bar I felt slighted. My appetizer was served an hour after I ordered .. and was extremely salty … and my entree was likewise extremely late .. I left without eating entrees .. My last night in SF and I was really looking forward to an indulgent multiple wine contemporary pasta dinner and left hurt, angry and disappointed
I’ve been to A16 a dozen times or more over the years. It’s one of my top favorite places. I was disappointed last night. The food wasn’t up to its usual excellence. Nothing seemed that great to me. The potatoes seemed overcooked and not that flavorful. The loin was overcooked. The sauce wasn’t that interesting. The greens were good but we ordered an arugula salad and the waitress didn’t mention that both entrees we ordered came with greens. In addition when I went to the restroom there were cartons piled in the already small hallway that is the waiting area and has a lot of foot traffic. I noticed other piles of supplies in different corners of the restaurant. The bathroom used to be impeccably clean and stylish and it just had an unkempt look to it. Not terrible but not that sparkly look I’m used to there.
A neighborhood staple! Highly recommend this to anyone looking for good, Neapolitan-style pizza in the Bay Area
Pork loin was superb. Pizza’s just okay. Pepper pasta not
Made with good enough pancetta. Service a little chaotic. A good place but no longer great.
Delicious food, fantastic wine selections, amazing service, fun vibe - we enjoyed a wonderful celebration dinner here!
Food was amazing but service was not great. They were not very attentive and a little rude.
Always excellent, the food, Shelly's wine selections, pizza, dessert, spectacular
A16 has long been a neighborhood favorite. The food is good, the people are nice, the vibe is relaxed.
Great meal, fantastic service. Wish it hadn’t been so long since we last went!
Every time I come go San Francisco, I must eat here. Food is very good. The meatballs are to die for. Die. Service is spectacular too.
Disappointing…..have been a frequent visitor over the years and A16 has always been a staple for us when we visit SF. Highlights last night included a wonderful bottle of wine and amazing Dessert. Lowlights were Appetizers and Pasta dishes. Our server was nice and attentive but was focused on getting the order….Diner level service. And our pasta dishes came out midway through appetizer course.
Bottom line it seems management has lost there attention to detail in what was once a great place to meet friends and consume authentic Italian cuisine. I understand Covid has impacted the Bay Area but that should not be an excuse. This A16 experience did not measure up to the reputation well earned over the years.
Great pork chop
Truly delicious. From the adult salad to the pork loin chop and the creamy dessert. We sat in the back patio. Service was slow but we were enjoying each other’s company and not being rushed as is so typical these days in higher end restaurants. Really a delightful.
Unfortunately the restaurant has gotten too popular for its own good. The staff was stretched really thing. Dinners are cramped into tables - more guest more money but at the cost of service and experience. If I'm paying for a fine dinning experience I expect a bit more attention to service and food. Really unfortunate, the experience is not longer worth the time or money.
A16 offers spicy Italian food with 20% tips included in the final bill. No matter what kind of service provided or food quality. Speaking of food quality, it's okay, but for me and my wife pasta was too spicy. I've never tried spicy Italian dishes and therefore was surprised. Pizza and antipasti were mediocre. Place looked nice from outside, but food wasn't as good. I'm not coming back and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Salmon was very overcooked, most other dishes were great. Could have used some attention to order. Usually very impressed with A16 but not this time.
We're from Virginia with family in San Francisco. We ate when you first opened 17 years ago and loved it. We've probably eaten 25 times since then. It is always the same: Fabulous. Our meal yesterday was with teen age grandchildren who, after a few questions, inhaled everything, as did the adults. We have occasion to visit Naples from time, and your Pizza Romana would be a best seller there. Tom and Sylvia Albro
Great food and ambience. Highly recommend! Thank you!
The food was mediocre
Great Neopolitan pizza and wines. Only annoyance was the lack of a written menu (online only). How hard is it to print out a menu, or at least to have one available on request?
One of the better pizza spots in San Francisco. Highly recommend.
It was my husband’s birthday and he wanted pizza for his day. Booking had us outside. So we didn’t know what to expect since it was cold out. They had heaters by the booths outside. The food was amazing! We started with the meatballs and shishito peppers and just about licked the meatball bowl. Family got cheese/pepperoni and one with mushrooms. I ventured and went with the anchovies pizza and it was delicious! Great place and food. Great stop on our road trip. Will come back when in SF again.
A16 was disappointing. The food and service was not very good. We ordered salads and pizza and pasta for our party and the arugula salad was underwhelming despite the fresh ingredients. The dressing needed more acid to coat the salad leaves and it needed to be seasoned properly. The pizza too was also underwhelming. The cheese was not properly melted and the crust was wet. Again, seasoning was off. Service was terribly slow to even get our order. The pesto pasta was close to 30 dollars and again, the seasoning was non existent. The back patio was beautiful however. That said, it's not worth going back. It shouldn't be difficult to offer salads, pasta and pizza that are high quality in our city.
Excellent menu (we ordered many items to share !) particularly pastas , starters & of course pizza . Outstanding wine list (& sommelier assistance )to pair with each course .
Outdoor Back patio is a special (& hidden) gem ideal for celebration or meal with friends !
Excellent pizza and delicious arugula salad. Service was perfect!
I had wanted to take my dad to A16 forever and finally got to on a recent visit. The food was A+ We of cour
Great pizza. Good pasta. Great waitress
The food and wine were delicious. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. It’s a bit pricey but we really enjoyed our meal.
Service was so so bad! Super disappointing. We never saw our waitress even after asking for her. Dishes were never cleared off the table. We ordered glasses of wine at the same time a neighboring table ordered their food and the food came first. And generally overpriced.
