This was my first time at Rockridge A16. The crab salad was great (but small). The pizza (funghi + sausage pizza w/ egg) was good (and very large, definitely enough to share between two people if you're not super hungry), but slightly too burned and I wish the crust was a little crispier on the bottom. The taste was solid. The interior is nice, but it does get quite noisy when it's a full house!

We were there at 6:00 on Valentine's Day and it was not what we expected:
We did not know it was a going to be prix fixe menu with the inability to choose what we wanted -- just wish we had been told about this before.
The price was not listed on the menu, but our fault for not asking. When we received the bill, it was about $300 for dinner, 2 cocktails, tax and tip.
It was way too much food -- ended up taking much more home than we were able to eat.
My boyfriend is a vegetarian, and the only main course was beef (very good, BTW), and he was not able to have a couple of the starters/pasta. (They did accommodate him with an entree veggie dish.)
The service was incredibly slow and uneven -- took over 3 1/2 hours! Don't think it was our waiter's fault. Many people seemed to be looking around for their food, so maybe it was the timing of the kitchen? There was also a huge line waiting to come in, I assume because dinner was taking so long .
The good news is, the food was excellent! Everything we had was great.
I love A16 and their menu, and look forward to returning, but this was not the experience we had hoped for, even though the food was delicious.
Thank you.

Was not impressed. Had a reservation for 9pm. Arrived at 9, but was told we would have to wait. Did so until 930. Was finally seated, and then there was a delay with the food. When it did arrive, it was fair, it was certainly not worth the $98 that was charged.

Word to the wise - order the pizza. It appeared to be the most delicious item, but was not part for the entree course, unless you claimed dietary restrictions.

The food was very great!
But despite our reservation , we waited 45 mins at the door.
When seated, we still waited around 30mins each in between appetizers, main dish, second main dish.

We appreciate a super delicious meal and are willing to pay for it, but this was very expensive and just okay. It was Valentine’s Day, so extra expensive and crowded I assume. We paid about $350 for two including the tip and wine (my husband did the pairing and I had two glasses). I probably wouldn’t go back.

Absolute train wreck of a Valentine’s Day meal. We were seated 50 minutes late and we received our first dish of a 4 course set menu 1 hr 45 minutes from our reservation time. We got the rest of the courses to go. We paid the full set meal price but were definitely ripped off. It’s a shame because we have gone many times - a16 has a couple great pizzas. No pizza on Valentine’s Day. The food wound up being mixed. Parts were flavorful and other dishes were very bland and uninteresting. Very disappointing. In fairness we have had good meals at a16 but this occasion was so poorly managed it was almost inexcusable.

Food was good but not the service on this prix fixe valentine's evening. Too long between courses, delivery of wine pairing too early/late for courses. Total meal time was 3 hours - too long for me for a weeknight!

We came to A16 for the prix fixe Valentine's Day dinner. The food was wonderfully prepared. Highlights included the beef with kale and potatoes au gratin, the crab salad, burrata, and desserts. There was one dish that was a tad spicy, but overall excellent food.

It was a full house and thus the service between some dishes was very slow, i.e. 20 to 30 minutes. We arrived at 5:30 pm and left at 8:15 pm. Just a bit too long, even for a special occasion.

Sat at the Chef's counter and, as usual, enjoyed watching the chefs at work. Started with the fried cauliflower, which was good starter and worked well with the Rose Champagne. Then on to the burrata (tasty, although some tough skin), lemon recotta gnocchi with cipollini (very tender), and the citrus salad (lovely way to end). The carafe of Cannanou recommended by our server was a very good match.

One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants-great for a bite or full meal. Wine selection is always wonderful. Service was a bit off the night we dined, but not off putting. Food was great-pizzas and salads.

Another great night at A16 Rockridge. At first, we were seated in the back room 'private dining' area. There were a couple of large groups which made for a lot of noise and a less than romantic atmosphere. The hostess was extremely understanding and accommodated our request to give up our table and wait for either a table in the main room or seats at the bar. We had barely started on our delicious cocktails before a bar place became available. Fantastic Neapolitan pizza, delicious wine recommendations, tasty Amaro, and great service. We feel incredibly lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood.

Went on a Saturday night - easy parking. The service was good, food was wonderful! The salumi plate was a bountiful arrangement of cured meats, in-season pickled vegetables, olives and other delicious additions - 5 stars! I usually don’t like pizza but the pizza here is fabulous! Clean ingredients and tasty. Would recommend this place to anyone. I was on a date but saw that they accommodate large groups. I would come here for the antipasto and wine alone. Prices are reasonable too!

Disappointed and surprised that it was not a good dining experience. Some food portions were ridiculously small. Server forgot to mention that the place ran out of pork chops. Had 3 different servers in total. All meals were initially served to the wrong people in our party. Main entrees took much too long to be served. The best part of the meal was seeing Shaun Livingston of the Warriors!

For a Top 100 restaurant, this should have been materially better!

Steak and Brussels were cold on arrival. Didn’t see our waiter again. Spoke with manager on floor, young guy, who had no idea how to deal with the situation and said something close to “oh well” and walked. It was only when one of the hosts, I believe she was blonde, very nice, who credited my meal and apologized. She asked me for my name and number and said the manager would like to call me and make it right. I haven’t heard anything. The hostess was the only professional we had contact with. I will not go back. It’s a shame. I live in the neighborhood.

We have been to A16 in SF and Oakland on many occasions but it has lost its way. For an Open Table VIP we got the worst table in the house by the rest rooms and server’s station. Our server was superb but the food was poor. Fungi pizza had topping lumped in the middle leaving dry unadorned crust around the outside. Gnocchi were dry and tasteless with a metallic tasting pesto. Squid ink pasta was fine but came with 2 clams and 2 mussels. Hardly worth the money. Spaghetti pasta was, well, just spaghetti. Considering the cost the meal was a huge disappointment. We will not return.

I remember this restaurant being very good, but this was a HUGE disappointment. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. The appetizers were very small and presentation was poor. Four (very) tiny slices of crostini with a blob of cheese plopped on a plate. One of the entrees didn't arrive with the other three. We (eventually) asked when it appeared it wasn't coming, but the waitperson said 'it takes some time' and walked away. The entree wasn't delivered until the others were nearly done eating. Clearly the order wasn't put in with the rest, or there was a mix up in the kitchen, but there were no apologies or explanation. The pizza was soggy in the middle and inedible. Based on the description, we actually thought this was a pasta dish. The menu didn't clearly indicate that it was a pizza, and I'm still confused about a pizza with only red sauce; no cheese or other ingredients. Our mistake I guess, but the waitperson was just a notch above rude and very unfriendly. She certainly didn't offer to exchange for something else. To be fair, the 3-4 cookies that came with the meal as dessert and the wine were good. We expected so much more from A16; especially those of us who have dined there in years past. We eat out often and rarely are this dissatisfied. I've never written a poor review, but feel compelled. Our experience rates a solid D...
