A16 Rockridge Ratings and Reviews
This was quite possibly the loudest restaurant I have ever been inside of while in a time of peace. Well, it was Friday. The lovely exposed wood beans do nothing for the acoustic ambiance, or lack thereof. Good pizza and an extensive wine menu are very attractive offerings. You won't be disappointed. I would however suggest that you be prepared, despite a reservation, to wait a while after arrival. Like most restaurants they do get overbooked on weekends it seems. I would also suggest that the wine list is in the higher price range so you might be tempted by the lower prices on the menu. Having chosen the lowest priced wine they had (they were out of the other suggestions of a medium range) I found it needing a lot of something it never had. So go with the carafe of some wine in the front of the menu, or better yet bring your own. Cheers!
We dined early with an out of town guest. Very quickly it was apparent that there weren't enough wait staff to keep up with the tables. We saw one diner get up and walk all the way into the bar area to get the attention of someone to bring their bill. We waited for an answer on how one of the dishes was prepared but when the waiter came back he still hadn't gotten the information. Likewise, we waited to order dessert and when it arrived it was very pedestrian. Total bill for 3 with tip was almost $250.00. We will wait awhile to go back.
The food and pizzas are good at A16, but the service is very spotty. We got our drinks and salad fairly quickly and then waited and waited for our pizzas and one entree. We had a small child with us...it was lunchtime...so it became a bit of an ordeal. There seem to be timing issues with the kitchen/pizzaiolo.
The six of us loved our night at A16. The pizzas are always good. The pork chops (2 ordered where huge, tender and delicious...not like any pork we know...) The pasta was great (mine was a lit bit too al dente...) The wine list is excellent and we loved our table. The location of this place is great for us as we ventured in from Walnut Creek. Next door is a super Irish bar and a great place to wind up the evening. Well done A16 again.
The service was awful. We had to ask multiple times for wine and such. Noticed couple next to us ordered a simple salad and flatbread pizza they waited over 45 minutes between salad and entre.
The food was bad as well,
I ordered a pork chop that was cut full of fat and gristle, not good.
We will not be going back.
Our server was absolutely horrible. Bad attitude from the beginning of the evening. Poor listening skills. Paid little attention to our table and was sarcastic when we finally asked about our pizza after 25 minutes of waiting. She replied "It will come out when it's ready.'' We complained to the manager upon leaving.
Although we were seated immediately the service simply for water or a drink was unconscionably long. Clearly understaffed and they weren’t even full! Several empty tables around us. Ridiculously low lighting (and no I’m not granny age) and an even longer time after food order was finally placed (30 minutes after sitting around vainly looking for our waiter) and incorrect order fulfillment lead me to give this place such a low rating- for the prices they charge the service was substandard and the food, though 3 out of 4 meals was good (the Neapolitan ragu is just acidic tomatoes on a pasta!) took ages to arrive. While I appreciate leisurely paced dinners this was outrageously slow with no savoring of food between courses! Will not go back anytime soon!
Food was amazing this was a get together for two friends to talk and grab a bite. Unfortunately for us the service fell short our server lacked attention to details at our table I was given one glass of water which lasted throughout my entire meal my colleague had to get up and go to the bar to get her second martini . Sat and watch our server take care and have conversation with regular guest at the pizza counter never came back to see if we want to water never came back to pick up our drink at the bar then proceeded to blow out all the candles in the dining room with the exception of our table which meant good night go home.
We had three salads to start. While delicious they were INSANELY over salted. The entrees including the pizzas were very good. The noise level where we were seated was off the hook loud. Could not hear the person kitty corner from me. Our table was also poorly lit making it impossible to read the menu without the assistance of a cell phone. I have been to both A16's numerous times. The food although always competent can be very variable. The loudness can be better or worse depending upon where you sit.
We went here for a birthday celebration and the food was great. The service was lacking and that was disappointing because we've always had such great service at this restaurant. Our waiter wasn't attentive, no refilling of drinks, didn't send over the sommelier when we asked for him...it was just a struggle. But the food was great and parking wasn't an issue. I think the waiter was a one off because it's always been great in the past and I'll still come here...but I'll take a break for now.
We were looking for an upscale but local lunch experience for an out of town guest: A16 was perfect. The restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon, which was fine with us and allowed us to linger over quiet conversation. The menu seemed more small plate than luncheon, but each item was perfect: burrata, meatballs, wonderful poached eggs on polenta, and an EXTRAORDINARY butternut squash pizza. Very nice.
The food was okay although not something to write home about. The pasta in the bucatini was too al dente it could stand on its end. The mussels and clams were 4 each which seem to be mean. The tripe was a bit under seasoned and under spiced. The service was cool, a bit ungracious. They were informed of the special occasion we were celebrating, but it was never acknowledged.
the atmosphere was lovely, however the server neglected to put in one of our ordered dishes, while bringing out the side that came with it. we enjoyed the side and other main dish. when we asked where the other one was, she hesitated and we said it was fine, we were full by then. but then she charged us for the side dish! and the gnocchi was not my preferred consistency. i will not return.
Started off not so good. No greeting for few minutes, then when hostess did come, she never said hello, rather went straight eye focused to her little podium. Then proceeded to say Ill be right with you. A minute later. Very awkward. Rude actually. Then she seated us. The Waiter seemed very rushed and off putting. This Angel of Wine came and saved the evening. So knowledgeable , sweet, changed the whole experience. Chef even brought us a special appetizer. Did not realize until after that the Angel was the general Manager Kristina. Props to her as she managed to save the evening. We had a special guest from out of the country so Thanks to Kristina and our 2nd round waitress!
4th time we've been, and it simply never disappoints. Great food all over the menu from top to bottom, our server very much knew her wines and made some great pairing suggestions after we'd ordered our meal, and our bartender also listened and made some great suggestions for our opening round of cocktails. Really an A+ experience.
A16 loves it's food and is eager to recommend and share their love of great items on the menu. Our waiter was young, enjoyed our jokes, and was very kind. We shared the fried olives, squash blossom with herbed ricotta (Best), two pizzas, (one was smoked with cherry or almond wood--the sauce and crust was wonderful), the entire staff was killer! I keep coming back for warmth. Thanks, folks!
