Nice to eat inside with limited seating. I had heard that pre-covid it could be quite noisy, but it was quiet and relaxed, which was quite nice. Food and service were excellent. Great cocktails. A little pricier than I think it needs to be for what it is, but delish nonetheless.
I have dined at A16 more than a dozen of times and this was a disappointing experience. They did not have any pastas on the menus except for a pork lasagna and a veggie lasagna. And those were sold out when we dined. I was told that their pasta machine broke down several months ago and they have not replaced it. I know that it has been a tough 15 months, but I thought that was a lame excuse. They could purchase fresh pasta from Market Hall at very least. I am not sure when I will be back
A16 Oakland/Rockridge has outdoor booths that are roomy and airy. Food is as good as it has been prior to the pandemic. I had the pork chop and roasted potato/cauliflower contorni. The pork chop was huge and well cooked, super flavorful with good accompaniments (arugula, hazelnuts) and the roasted potato/cauliflower was a nice side dish. My friend is vegan and they were able to make a mushroom pizza with no cheese and the roasted asparagus and potato/cauliflower made a nice meal. Overall, great experience.
Great arugula/fennel salad! Fantastic pizzas. Friendly service.
The food plain and simple was delicious. What we had a problem with is that we were the first people in the restaurant, and the service was meh. We waited for about 15 minutes before anyone recognizing us or taking our drink order. They also added a piece on the receipt titled "8 or more 20% charge" which was confusing because there were only two of us. I fully support an automatic 20% service charge, but they need to rephrase it on the receipt so as to not confuse people.
Great experience. First time eating indoors since start of COVID. Everything was excellent, including safety protocols.
A16 isn’t back to pre-pandemic quality. Everything was fair but not excellent. Needs improvement.
Excellent service, drinks and food. We’ve missed dining in person at A16 and this meal didn’t disappoint.
Great servers autumn, Gretchen and moy. Great margarita pizza with sausage. Baked chicken and great drinks
Delicious food, friendly and helpful service, safe dining environment and perfect Rockridge outdoor eating experience!
The outdoor table for 4 closest to the bar next door got too noisy when the bar patrons got to their second or third drinks! Otherwise it was such a pleasure to eat an excellent meal served to us with respect for distance but without losing charm and hospitality. Accessing the menus through QR codes taped to the tables was clever and a great way to avoid handling previously circulated menus. The kale salad and the trout were delicious!
Beware there is a 20% gratuity added to the bill for a party of 2. Table was never cleaned, no refills on drinks, no change of plates after appetizers, pizza came late, no dessert offering and she didn’t even ask us if he enjoyed the food. The busboy should get promoted to a server. The worst dining experience of 2021 for us and we will not be coming back.
Didn’t mind outdoor seating on the street! Had a wonderful dinner with out of town family members.
Very comfortable and good quality food. The quantity was on the skimpy side, but everything was delicious.
We were outside so it was a bit louder but the staff did an amazing job making it a great and safe experience. And of course the food and wine are still amazing.
They’ve got the outdoor-dining thing wired!!
During the pandemic, we have purchased Oakland A16 's holiday take out dinners, and they have been fabulous. This was the first time we dined in their outside "parklet." There was a special dinner, and the food was spectacular. It was raining very, very hard, and we were protected, but the staff was running back and forth in the rain. They were still giving great service and smiling and chatting. There was a special wine offering, and I tasted the choices, and they even let me get a half glass of each. We stayed dry and were so pleased with our dinner and service, and we had a great time. We are going to return very soon.
As always, the food was delicious at our last visit to A16. We had a grilled asparagus appetizer on walnut crema, kind of like a hummus but milder, and then we also had the hummus and lamb appetizer that was part of a special Mediterranean menu that night. Both were excellent and good to share. Pork lasagne was our main course--so good I ordered extra to take home for the next day. Very light and creamy. Dessert of panna cotta and crostada topped it off. I'm glad they have roofs on the parklet and heaters too! because it rained quite heavily. So worth it though to be out to eat. Grateful to A16 for continuing to operate as best they can during this pandemic.
Great food and service. Very nice outdoor dining set up. Fairly expensive though
So nice to have them back !
One of our favorite places to grab some great food and cocktails, consistently good. Not cheap, but reasonable value. Great service.
Good food great service great drinks
As far as outdoor dining during COVID goes A16 is a good option. You can still make a reservation, their parklet feels cozy, and they have outdoor heaters. Here is what we ordered:
Cocktails - Both the tequila and bourbon based cocktails were good. Spirit forward and balanced.
Meat and Cheese Plate - Definitely skip. I can make a better charcuterie board from the deli section at Trader Joes.
Half Chicken Diavolo - My husband and I split this and it was definitely enough meat for both of us. By far the best thing we ate all night were the potatoes that came with this dish. They were reminiscent of malt vinegar and the shallots were amazing. The chicken had a wonderfully crispy skin and was moist on the inside. It could use more flavor: a rub, some sauce or just more salt. But over all was pretty good.
Sides - Since we were splitting an entree we ordered both the veggie sides: roasted brussel sprouts and delicata squash. The flavor of the squash was good but unfortunately it came to the table cold. The brussel sprouts were covered in way too much calabrian chili sauce and not roasted enough. Also came to the table cold.
So all in all I would give our dinner 3 stars. Mainly for ambiance, service, cocktails and those potatoes!
Love this spot. Food is so good and the service is great!
Great experience and the dinner was exceptional. Outstanding job by the chef, and the staff were amazing. Love A16!
Kale salad, Octopus with crispy beans, burrata Pizza. All excellent!
Montepulciano Riserva too.
Glad to see they're making it work during the pandemic.
The outdoor set up was warm enough. our server, Autumn, was a delight. The fennel salad was so fresh and tasty. The fried dough pizza with smoked tomato sauce was a delightful change from the expected.
Great wine and dinner, truly memorable anniversary dinner. Dessert wasnt the best (ordered the Rhum Baba) but loved the dessert wine.
For Covid reasons the restaurant chose not to close any doors or windows and the night’s temperature was 40degrees. Therefore we were FREEZING. Our food instantly was cold and the entire dinner experience was miserable. I wouldn’t recommend eating indoors if its cold. There was no option to have heat or closing of doors or windows. We will not be returning and we are sad that they are unable to offer a good experience. We were the only ones in the restaurant and spent $300.
Great friendly service. Excellent food in nice atmosphere. Enjoyed it and would recommend it
The food and ambience are good, friendly staff. Fun location
With current reopening stage and capacity limitation, my partner and I were very impressed at the layout of the dining room. There were only two other 4 tops and us. While most diners sat outside (on a chilly night), we were more than pleased to be indoors with plenty of ventilation from the screened door opening. The food as always was amazing and our server Rob was incredibly attentive.
Nice spot to dine during COVID. Offers semi-private outdoor seating. Delicious food and attentive service.
Having to wait over 30 minutes for a reservation is unacceptable.
Most delicious meal EVER!
we ordered the Brussel sprouts, fired olives, 2 pizzas, the meatballs and the cannoli ice-cream.
Everything was mouth-watering!!!
The outdoor dining experience in the parklet was perfect for my family (4 and 8 year old). The slightly more casualness let the kids feel more comfortable.
Don't count on being seated at the time of your reservation. We had to wait 25minutes past our reservation time to get a table.
First meal since quarantine couldn't have been nicer. Food was great, sitting outside was wonderful, and they took all the necessary precautions to make everyone feel safe. It was good to feel human again.
Good meal - just service needs a little improvement while they adjust to new public safety standards amidst Covid.
