a la Lucia is a neighborhood restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. We specialize in homemade traditional Italian Fare and Italian Wines. Owner Michael Nayeri has been in the Washington Restaurant Business for over 20 years. We offer Brick oven Pizzas, Patio Seating, and Kids Menus. Our Private Wine Room is available for all types of parties up to 40 guests. We have a Full bar, specializing in Wine, where we broadcast all major sporting and news events.

Street parking is somewhat congested during Lunch Hours. Metered spaces are available behind the building if street parking cannot be found.
After 5pm and on Weekends guests should expect to find parking within 1 Block of the restaurant in most instances.
The closest MetroRail Stop is Braddock Road (Yellow and Blue Lines) Distance 12 Blocks, however walking is not recommended.

Have been to this place many times and it never fails to please - they are flexible, food is consistently good, and service if not intrusive but sufficiently attentive. Wine list is not extensive but serviceable. Portions are very generous. Pasta is fresh and fish is always well-prepared. Friends had veal and they were also delighted
Our dinner was delicious- probably the best meal I’ve ever had here. Everyone in my party essentially finished their entire plate and a la Lucia serves good portions! Two of us got veal Marsala and the sauce was impeccable. We all ended our meal with gelato milkshakes and they were divine. A la Lucia has been and continues to be one of our favorites!
After we had a "fair' meal there a month ago, last week my guest and I returned to A la lucia for another meal. This time we are left with the memory that the kitchen does not measure up to the level of the service. On a cold evening my stringy veal dish arrived on a barely warm plate with an undercooked medley of vegetables a side. My guest noted that her medley arrived at barely room temperature.
After having dined there for years, it seems that our recent selections won't have us returning for a while.
We have been here many times but were disappointed this time. The service was mediocre. We were in the back room which is quiet but felt forgotten at times. The grilled rockfish was superb, but the pasta with crab was very disappointing ( it had almost no crab meat, and the sauce was bland)
We have loved this place in the past but we felt disappointed to take 3 friends there this time
There is room for improvement
Beer was cool at best--accompanying glass had just come out of the washer and was warm, bread was cold, calamari slimy and the linguini and grab meat in tomato sauce not so good. We usually have a great meal here--I guess the lesson learned is stay away from the 3 course meal deal?
We were super excited to try A La Lucia. We are new to the area and love local restaurants. We had high hopes. Upon arrival, we were welcomed warmly. The ambience is great--cozy, Italian-themed, but not tacky. Our server was attentive. The other patrons appeared affluent with lots of repeat customers. The complementary bruschetta was tasty. My husband and I both ordered the prix fixe--3 courses for $38. We both started with the fried calamari. The portions were generous (enough to share), but the batter was a bit greasy and not flavorful. That could have been passable but the marinara dipping sauce was also unflavorful. A bit of heat, garlic, salt, or spice was warranted. For our main meals, I had the fettuccine with tomatoes, garlic, and spinach; my husband had the black ink squid pasta. Again, portions were generous, but again, the plates lacked flavor and salt. The food was terribly bland. The fettuccine needed a red pepper or basil or oregano--and salt. The black ink squid pasta had white wine, but lacked a bite. It needed capers or red pepper or something to offset the shellfish and the bland broth. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake, layered with chocolate mousse with a side of gelato and the tiramisu. The tiramisu was solid. The gelato was exceptional. The chocolate cake was a bit dry, despite the mousse layers. The meal (with 4 glasses of wine, total) was $119. For the simplicity of the meal and the preparations, the price seemed a bit high. Had the food been more elevated, the price would have been expected. We truly wanted to love the place--and might be back for a glass of wine, since the spot is truly comfortable and cozy, but sadly, we likely won't be back to dine.
Oustanding food and service. The seasonal selections, Pumpkin Ravioli with Sage Butter as well as the pumpkin cheesecake, were exquisite. The black linguine with scallops, clams and shrimp was also amazing. My favorite dessert was the Coffee Panna Cotta with such smooth texture and slightly bold coffee flavor.
A La Lucia does not disappoint: we were back in town after moving out of the area years ago. We visit every time we are in town. The veal raviolini and pumpkin ravioli were excellent, and the cannoli and cappuccino top off the dinner. The brown butter sage sauce cannot be replicated on the West coast.

Dined with five others. All six of us were very pleased with our selections. Food was served very quickly. Only negative was bread and free crostini should have been served a bit sooner rather than right before the main course (but, again, it was free so...)
