Excellent restaurant in quiet corner of North Old Town. Fabulous food, attentive staff, great place.
My wife and I took some friends who were visiting the area to A La Lucia. The food was terrific, the service efficient but warm and friendly. It made for a great evening.
To start, the focaccia bread and olive order was realllllly good!!!!
We ordered a 4 cheese sampler as a primi. For our meals, my daughter ordered the manicotti, which was surprisingly the best I've ever had! My husband ordered the black fettuccini with mixed seafood. Unfortunately, they were out of clams, so they substituted for mussels which took up a lot of room on the plate. I ordered the veal raviolini, which is itty bitty raviolis with maybe a half a teaspoon of meat. The sauce was very tasty but very mild, but I didn't realize there was so little meat in these raviolis! The wait staff was fantastic! Overall, the meal was good, we'd come back to try something else. I do suggest the manicotti!
Wanted to get out of our local rut. Wasn't sure where this was in relationship to Old Town, and ended up touring Old Town by car instead of walking around after dinner as originally planned. 35-40 min drive for us. There's a very good local Italian restaurant we frequent on occasion. Still, I would make the longish drive again just for this restaurant. Comfortable atmosphere, great service, and REALLY good food.
I had planned to meet a couple colleagues for dinner but I did not receive their cancellation notices until I was at the restaurant. I decided to stay and have a meal as I was hungry. The restaurant quickly changed me to a smaller table. Service was attentive. Enjoyed the rock fish fixed price special. Calamari appetizer was very good as was the poached pear with ice cream. Wine pours were reasonable and wine was reasonably priced. Family of four next to me was energetic but not offensive. Was originally put in a quieter corner that would have been good for the colleague with a hearing impairment. It was a very nice evening and I will return.
Typically would score it higher. However, service during the last visit was really poor.
Reallly enjoyed this place. Met friends from out of town and the food and service was fantastic. We will definitely go again. Thanks to the staff for a great evening!
It is a pleasant dinning experience. Good food and nice place
Good food. Excellent service.
Make the drive into northern old town occasionally to hit A la Lucia. Great Italian food, great service, as always. Only downside ever is if the cross-trainer folks are having a big workout day next door -you can hear the weights and tires flying around. That will not keep me away though.
Visiting from out of town and spotted this place on a walk - looked pretty cool. We were, ALL, very pleasantly surprised - especially without knowing anything about the restaurant. Thanks for a great evening!
A La Lucia is a great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Tasty delicious food, you can’t go wrong with this neighborhood gem! Cozy and reasonably priced. Good service!
Took my girlfriend here for valentine's day and received exceptional service over a three course dinner with breathtaking flavors and presentation. A must for a romantic date and special occasion!
even though it was Valentine's Day, it was still a great dinner. Restaurants are normally packed on this day. But we had a wonderful evening.
Love everything about this neighborhood gem. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious!
Share a dinner with some family from out of town. Service was great. Seafood was even better. Never had a bad meal.
Great neighborhood spot within walking distance of the main drag in Old Town, Alexandria and the Braddock Road metro stop. Fantastic food and service, and great at accommodating food allergies and dietary restrictions. Great wine list, and great value for the highly reasonable prices. A must-try for anyone who's a fan of good Italian cooking and places that are off the beaten path.
Lovely dinner, as usual. Large group in room was loud, which was unusual in restaurant.
What a wonderful meal, and incredible portions for restaurant week. My GF and I left with lots of leftovers. The staff is really attentive, engaging, and it's obvious they enjoy working at this restaurant. We will definitely be returning.
Always great service and welcoming staff. We dine here regularly. Great value and unpretentious menu!
My only recommendation would be to reupholster the seats in their booths. Mine was lumpy and not all that supportive. Also, when I set my jacket next to what i thought was an interior wall, it was cold when I picked it up to leave.
Otherwise, my guests and I enjoyed the Restaurant week menu which included a huge selection of items that were on their regular menu. Very impressive.
Went for Alexandria Restaurant Week. Even though the restaurant was almost packed, we had a delightful meal and got great service. Really terrific food, all served hot and delicious. Even the vegetables were perfectly cooked (his spinach, my green beans). Had veal scallops that were tender and perfectly cooked. He had the veal chop and it was medium rare, just as he ordered it. Dessert were both very good--poached pear with glace and coffee mousse.
We will definitely come back.
We went for dinner during Alexandria Restaurant Week. The special menu was the most extensive of any of the restaurants we checked. Wide selection of appetizers and main dishes from which to choose. Reasonably priced wine selections by the glass too. Our first time there but won’t be the last.
Ravioli appetizers and lamb entree were delicious. Wine was excellent and very affordable.
Delicious food! Great Service!
I don’t like to leave bad reviews. That being said, I will not return here—a shame, as I just moved to this neighborhood and was looking for a local spot to become a regular. A friend and I went for restaurant week, and while dining, the owner or manager (not sure, as he didn’t introduce himself to us but hugged a couple who was seated near us) spoke poorly about those who came during restaurant week to this couple, who expressed shock at how crowded it was. “They’ll come once and we’ll never see them again,” “these people have no idea how to appreciate what we do,” “they all tip so bad,” and “we only do this because we HAVE to” was some of what hw said. When I compare that to several other places I visited during restaurant week (for example, one bartender said, “I hope you come back when we’re not as busy to really see how great we are!”), this spot won’t be getting my business again. I’ll spend my money where it’s wanted.
Food was very everyday. Tomatoes and mozzarella were nothing special in flavour. Minestrone was flavourless.
Restaurant Week was a challenge for this restaurant which is one of our favorites. The waiter started the visit after saying "glad to see you" with a list of things they were out of. Of course, the veal chop which they had listed on the Restaurant Week website was not available. I substituted the rib eye for the veal chop with a $10. surcharge. It was disappointing. Very tough with a part that was hard to cut with a steak knife. The waiter asked how our meal was and I told him about the ribeye but he said nothing.
The place was packed. Ordinarily they are excellent with service and food. My wife liked her pasta dish so all was not lost.
By the way, the Barbara we had was excellent !
Went with friends for restaurant week, had reservations. Amazing choices, great service, they took wonderful care of the four of us. Food was wonderful, served up in the right pace for the three courses, too. It was expected that one or two choices were sold out, as they were busy, and one wine we wanted was also not available. The only bad side was the bar service. Bartender seemed to totally forget us, only gave us two drinks, did a bunch of other things, then maybe 20 minutes went by, then the other two drinks came up. He seemed unphased by the whole thing, which is a bummer because if that's the service we would get in the future, I wouldn't go there for drinks only, would just go for a meal. But, bar area is really nice and the entire ambiance was really special even on a busy night. Do not miss this place!
A La Lucia has excellent, authentic Italian food --and consistent good service.
Unfortunately we went during Restaurant Week and we had to wait for a table.
Still it was worth the wait.
We went for Alexandria Restaurant Week, the prepared menu was fantastic. Service outstanding. Definitely going back!
I haven’t eaten here in about 10 years and I wish I has revisited sooner! Great food, good service. It is a new family favorite.
We were very pleased with the dining experience at A La Lucia.
The service was good. The food was average, nothing to write home about. The location was accessible and parking was great. I enjoyed the bread and the dessert waa wonderful. I wouldn't recommend anyone to this restaurant based on my experience. I thought the food would be better than a chain restaurant such as Olive Garden.
It was nice for restaurant week
I hadn't been to AL Lucia in a couple of years. It is still an excellent place for good "home cooked" Italian food. The pasta dishes are great. I got rockfish with green beans. The fish was prepared well and vegetables crisp. Gelato is some if best I've had. Service is very attentive without intrusion. I plan to return soon.
Relaxing dinner with good wine, great pasta, salad and wonderful coffee.
Comfortably accommodated business discussions.
The food was excellent. But even more remarkable than the food was the outstanding service. It's not easy to have a restaurant staff that works together so seamlessly, from the sommelier, to the waitstaff to the runners and bussing employees.
