A great neighborhood restaurant with consistently good food and warm, professional service.
A La Lucia has been a favorite for years, and now that we've moved away, we're sure to visit every time we're back in town. We keep waiting for the quality to go down, which has happened at so many places we love, but they keep making us happy to go back!
We met an old workmate of ours from Raytheon and shared a nice dinner with he and his wife. Excellent dinner and cappuccino.
Our favorite restaurant in Ild Town Alexandria. Fabulous!
The restaurant has introduced a new menu (on one sheet of paper) that is not as satisfying as its previous offerings. No more appetizer/entree/dessert deals - all is now a la carte. A side of shaved fennel, that used to come with the fish entree, is now $5. Foccacia, previously first-rate, was dry, and the whole bream (supposedly deboned, but still containing bones) was not at all the equal of the rockfish that used to be a staple. Mussels are no longer offered as an appetizer. The agnolottii in cream sauce, another old favorite, was tough and the sauce was watery, not creamy. Very disappointing experience for what had always been a go-to neighborhood spot. Not planning a return visit.
While waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time for our table, it took 20 minutes to get a glass of wine. The atmosphere was very frenetic and chaotic, lots of staff running around and barking requests at one another, but nothing getting done. That doesn't set the stage for a relaxed and pleasant dining experience. Once seated, our waitress was very welcoming. The focaccia they served was not as good as it has been on past visits. Food was alright. Even though I live walking distance from a la Lucia, not sure when i will be going back.
Great experience, wonderful food. Couldn't have asked for a better meal to end our vacation.
Our first time dining here and really enjoyed the food and service!
Service and food were excellent. I really wanted a veal dish, but there was only one on the menu so I asked if I could have the chicken marsala made with veal instead of chicken and the server was able to immediately confirm we could without needing to check and it was delicious. We were a group of five, we had appetizers and each had different entrée and everyone was very pleased with their meal. Servers were very attentive, including stopping by to fill our glasses from the bottle of wine we ordered whenever they noticed it was needed. Overall we were all very happy and would definitely eat there again.
We had an excellent experience and the food and wine were wonderful.
Food was delicious and service superb. Could not get any better....enjoy
A La Lucia seems to have fallen off its stride. The "new" menu they have been touting in their email ads (e.g., porchetta) was nowise in evidence on this Wednesday evening; it chiefly seems to consist in adding pizza to the dining room and severely cutting back the old menu. The pasta courses we did have -- holdovers from the former menu -- were good as ever. But the loss of the puttanesca is greatly lamented. Plus, perhaps because it was a weekday night, wait staff seem to be limited despite the restaurant's being rather full when we arrived, resulting in some delay in initial service to our table. This whole experience was very disappointing because we used to enjoy dining here so much, not least for the available specials and good friendly service.
A quick bit to eat and a cocktail before dinner then off again to do some shopping. Convenient and restful place to pause, replenish and then re-engage
This restaurant has been my go to for special guests and occasions for many years. They never disappoint. Excellent food and service, pleasing atmosphere, easy street parking, never rushed and a pleasant walk to the water afterwards.
Great food, service, and atmosphere! My favorite Italian restaurant in northern Virginia.
Great outdoor seating for an intimate date night. Best valued Italian in Arlington / Alexandria.
New menu is excellent. Best eggplant parm I can remember having!!!
New menu! New items! Small & Large on most of menu! The best caponata! Must go!
New menu but same great service and excellent food and wine.
The new menu should be retired! Ridiculous to be charge $5 for a side of spinach which used to be included with the protein.
We had a lovely evening sitting outside of this busy restaurant, on a fairly quiet street in a north Alexandria neighborhood. We ordered mussels to share for our appetizer (entree sized) and they were quite good, very juicy in a smooth cream sauce - needed salt and pepper. We each ordered a half size pasta as our dinner, and these were excellent. The bread they make is absolutely some of the most delicious bread you will ever eat. We had a nice bottle of wine and a quiet evening, perfect for catching up with each other. We will definitely go back - we live only four blocks away but haven't gone that often in the past - we tend to go in the winter because it feels cozy then, and this was the first time we have eaten outside. They can accommodate couples and bigger groups - it's a big place, and it's deceiving from the outside. The food is fresh and well prepared! And they have some gluten free pasta, which is not advertised on the menu. Highly recommend!
Great neighborhood place. Limited menu but quality makes up for that. Great friendly service. Reasonably priced. Inside a little tired. Never tried their pizza. On street parking wasn’t a problem but might be sometimes,
Really like the new menu. Much shorter than the previous menu, but still lots to choose from and everthing is good.
Nice experience. Friendly staff, wonderful food and great wine
A La Lucia is so delicious. It is a wonderful authentic Italian Restaurant. The pasta is homemade. The manicotti is to die for!!!
Always are go to neighborhood place - always good food and always a warm welcome.
We came to A La Lucia for Restaurant Week to try some new dishes and begin celebrating my wife's birthday week. The food was fantastic. My wife's seafood and black pasta was a mild yet flavorful dish. My veal with parmesan gratin was melt in your mouth delicious. The cannoli with pistachios is also terrific for dessert. The portions were just right so we felt like we had a great dinner but not too heavy afterward. All in all a great place to go for a lovely dinner and quiet conversation.
Great service and excellent food. Every experience here has been wonderful!
Food was good, service prompt.
La Lucia is an excellent restaurant. Every time I visit the restaurant, have had great food.
I highly recommend this restaurant for the quality of the food.
Went for restaurant week, will be back!
Lovely dinner! Enjoyed the chianti, the pasta, and a fabulous chocolate cake and gelato
The food was outstanding. I will definitely return.
Awesome food. The best of restaurant week in Alexandria. At other times the food is consistently good. Great Italian place with many selections!
We had a good time at A La Lucia. The place is lively and informal. Food was delicious with generous portion. Service was good. I had bronzino fillet, white bean salad with grilled shrimp, and chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. I like the way they serve the gelato, which was placed in a small cup along with the cake. Doing so the ice cream would not melt into the cake, and giving a refreshing taste.
We took friends for a Restaurant Week dinner. They were pleasantly surprised at how many options were offered in each of three categories. Lovely service as always and the food was excellent.
Food was excellent. Staff was good. A billing error occurred but was readily rectified.
We had not been to A LA in a while as we had moved away. We decided to make the 50 minute drive for dinner and it did not disappoint . We drove past hundreds of restaurants on the way there, many that we eat at and we were glad we did. It was as good as we remembered it. We had not been there for close to 5/6 years and the meal was just as we remembered it. the only down side was the banging of weights being dropped at the cross fit place next door. This will not keep us away we will try to stop in whenever we are in the neighborhood.
My husband and I dined for restaurant week! The menus was great but they were very busy so we had a small wait on our wine refill! Staff was very friendly and the true Italian experience sitting elbows away from the next table!!
The service was awesome. Restaurant week selections were great. The food tasted great. We all finished our plates. We all would definitely go back!
