A Food Affair Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We wanted to find a bistro for a nice Sunday supper, and this place was perfect. It is a place we expect to return to many times. The chicken dish, served in small cast iron pots, was outstanding as was the duck confit with beluga lentils. Desserts were delicious too. And their wine list is nicely priced not to break the bank. We went on a Sunday but Tuesdays and Wednesdays they allow you to bring a bottle of wine and pay no corkage. We'll definitely try going on one of those days. Prices are reasonable.
When we walked in I got nervous. A large party of 12 had just been seated, and I worried it would take forever to get our food. But we were seated quickly, the waiter was jovial and attentive, and the kitchen didn't miss a beat. The mushroom torte was decadent and my duck confit was cooked to perfection. This is NOT a fancy restaurant but the food rivals the best in the city. Even the "cocktails" (the restaurant serves beer and wine) were fabulous. I had a wine mojito and it was out of this world. We were too full to stay for dessert. Next time.
The buzz about this place is well-deserved and we'll be back soon.
After 3 years in France I felt as if I was welcomed back home by Babette and Christian as soon as I stepped into the more spacious remodeled space with updated menus:)
The biggest news is that they got their license to sell wine!!!! They still offer free corkage some nights, so if you want to bring a bottle, you can, but their Eurocentric house selection is broad enough for most tastes.
We ordered the mushroom Tourte, a mouthwatering medley atop puff pastry. Christian insisted on having us taste his homemade foie gras, which was so good with the fruit compote and pomegranate seeds on grilled bread that we asked for more bread to eat every sliver of foie!
The specials last night included a succulent lamb tagine and a flash fried whole red snapper that both showcased Christian's deft and versatile skills in the kitchen. The lamb shank tangine was meltingly tender, redolent in spices, and the whole snapper had a Thai twist with the accompanying sauce and spices. Both were such generous portions we took half home so we could share a dessert of creme brulée, so rich in vanilla bean seeds that we could smell it before we tasted it, topped with ripe seasonal fruit and served with a side of chocolate chips and roasted sunflower seeds.
I took a friend from NYC who had never been to Food Affair before and by the end of our meal, Babette and Christian had adopted her into the Food Affair family :)
What an excellent dining experience! Truly authentic, but modern. We had the escargot (unreal), bone marrow, brussel sprouts, and duck leg confit. It was all splendid. We were celebrating a birthday and were thanked by the chef - truly great service by all the staff as well. Definitely on the pricier side - but worth it!
Fantastic experience start to finish. The service was great, the head chef himself came to visit and chat with us, and every bite of food was amazing. I honestly can't say enough about this place. Excellent food and a great dining experience. We will be back as often as we can afford it.
I was transported back to the South of France. Food was delicious, wine was reasonably priced and very good and the restaurant is very charming. Our hostess was very pleasant and the staff very attentive. I am taking another couple there for dinner tomorrow.
This restaurant is an exemplary demonstration of the vibrancy and character that LA is known for. The staff is exceptional and the owner even came by to speak with us. The rosemary chicken dish is to die for, and the brussel sprout/kale ensemble side is delectable.
First time visiting and it was amazing! I was celebrating my fiancé's birthday. We tried the Grilled Romaine as an appetizer and OMG the flavors were perfect! We definitely want to try this at home. For dinner I had the Moms Beef Bourgignon and my fiancé tried the Rib Eye. The meat on both dishes was so tender! I really appreciated the chef coming out and greeting us. Very personable. I also loved that they brought out a macaroon dessert to celebrate his birthday! Only bummer was that the Mojito I ordered was mostly ice and tasted like mint water. But besides that the atmosphere was very comfortable and romantic to have a special night at.
This was my friends and my first time at this restaurant. We found it very charming and quaint. It's not a large restaurant --there is indoor and outdoor seating. We felt the service was wonderful and the French food was excellent. The Chef came around to see if we liked our entrées --and of course we did. He was lovely and very humble. Even though I do love wine, my only wish would be that we had the option of having a cocktail. Otherwise my friends and I will definitely come back.
My mom and I were in LA for a girls' weekend and our dinner here was one of the highlights of our trip. The staff was attentive and the food was well-prepared and delicious! The chef/owner came out towards the end of our meal to chat with us, which I found impressive. Even after we exited the restaurant and were waiting for our Uber, our server stepped outside to thank us. I can't recall the last time I've had such a personable dining experience! I highly recommend checking out this quaint spot!
This is a great place to eat! It was my 3rd time there. We have not had a single bad dish here in all our visits. The mushroom tourte appetizer is SO delicious. Family run and staff is friendly. Quiet interior, as in, I could have a normal conversation with my husband without screaming to be heard. Love it! Highly recommend.
We were visiting LA and after arriving late afternoon we wanted a cozy, neighborhood restaurant with fun food- this fit the bill perfectly ! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting and the service was great! I had the red snapper special and my husband had the salmon - both were excellent. The owner came out to check on us towards the end of our meal and we had a lively conversation ! We would definitely come back here on future visits!
Tiny French restaurant with excellent food. They have a small patio for outdoor seating. The decor is cozy and the staff is great. We starters, entres, and dessert. They have wine and cocktails, but not a great beer selection. The prices are the only thing that keeps me from calling it "casual." Overall I really liked this place. Perfect for a night out to catch up with some friends, date night, or a birthday.
The mushroom tart appetizer was amazing (one of my favorites), followed by crab cake entree. My friends had the beef bourguignon, duck confit, grilled romaine salad. All were fabulous and beautifully presented. You can't miss in choosing any of the deserts, but I love the coconut pudding (very unique!). You feel very welcomed and well taken care of by Babette and all the serving staff. Always a pleasure. Anyone I take there goes back.
I saw this place on Yelp and it had very good reviews. The prices were showing $$ on Yelp but I thought it should be more like $$$. The appetizers were just a bit over priced compared to the portion sizes. But it was a very nice meal.
My girlfriend got the lamb shank and enjoyed it. I ended up choosing the beef bourguignonand it was delicious. The staff was well trained and pleasant
Quaint little restaurant. Staff is very attentive and friendly.
We brought our own wine. There is a $20.00 corkage fee which is a little steep. Still glad we brought our wine. Plenty of street parking. It was a Saturday night and they were busy.
It was a half way meeting point so we drove over 30 miles but surprisingly no traffic over Labor Day weekend. Food was very good and you are not rushed at all. If we lived closer we would definitely come more often. Owners came over to our table to check things out which was very nice.
This place never disappoints. In fact, it just keeps getting better. Innovative cuisine that literally hits the spot time and again. Just when I think the chef has outdone himself, I eat there again and say the very same thing to myself. A complete treat, from start to finish.
