Long-time, highly regarded French caterers open new restaurant. Babette and Christian Royere, owners of the former “Babette’s Restaurant” in the Marina and “A Food Affair Catering” (est. 1997) are proud to announce the opening of “A Food Affair” restaurant. “A Food Affair” features French American cuisine in a charming, romantic atmosphere where patrons dine amidst a sophisticated mix of antique French furnishings and industrial lighting. Chef/Owner Christian Royere, a “go to” caterer for well-known figures in the entertainment industry (both behind and in front of the camera), is a master of creating French cuisine with an American “twist.” Bouillabaisse, beef bourguignon, duck confit are just a few of the mouth-watering delights done an innovative way. The Royeres’ support local substantial and organic practices whenever possible and the entire menu reflects their commitment to excellence. Babette and Christian look forward to welcoming you!

The ambiance is quaint, charming and chic. Service is outstanding and everything and everyone is genuine and authentic. The beef bourguignon and pappardelle are served in cast iron skillets —SUPERB. The other dish we had was the cast iron chicken —WOW. For dessert we had apple and peach tart a la mode—FANTASTIC!!! To top it off they presented my daughter with a complimentary birthday creme brûlée. What more can I say. FAVORITE!!!!

Absolutely stunning. I don't use the words "exquisite" lightly, or ironically, but so it was. Great for our honeymoon. Amazing bone marrow dish, duck confit, salmon, and so on. Chef introduced himself personally, and waitress was incredible. 13/10, we loved it.

simply amazing dining experience.....every dish had such unique taste.....and so many dishes complement each other nicely.....not an extensive menu, rather a smaller, wonderful selection.....excellent wine list too.....from the mushroom tourte and escargot potatoe shell to the duck leg confit and two evening specials - a whole roasted snapper and hangar steak frites, we were all in heaven....and the creme brule stellar....so looking forward to a return visit.....great waiter and the chef came out to extend birthday wishes and check on our experience.....like i said, simply amazing

Everything was wonderful as usual. I went on the last night of DineLA.

The deal wasn't as good as 2 years ago when I noted that the prix fixe was $35 and included a glass of wine. This year it was $49 and no wine for the same thing.

I went to A Food Affair for DineLA and we sat outside in the patio. I thought the noise level would be fine but with LA's racing cars it was just way too loud to be sitting next to the street. The service was great and friendly. The food was good but also a bit too heavy for me. I loved the appetizers and dessert but the lamb that I got for the entree tasted very gamey which I'm not a fan of. It was super tender and juicy but the taste of the gamey-ness just got to me and I couldn't finish my meal.

We did Dine LA and had 3 course meal. I had the mushroom tarte which was my favorite part of the meal.
The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and texture meaty and the taste was amazing. Would order again. The main course was Beef Bourguignon. Loved the presentation. All dinners came on a log charger, the beef was in a cassoulet and the pasta/veggies in small cast iron skillet (very rustic looking).
My son had lamb and was incredibly happy. Daughter-in-law had same as me. Desserts: chocolate pot d'creme and lemon pie. Lemon pie had a lot going on as it was topped with a combo of mascarpone and whipped cream, chopped pistachios, pieces of hard meringue, and most delious bits of dried tangerines.
A very lovely and satisfying meal. Chef is so sweet, comes out to make sure everyone is happy!
Wonderful experience all around, good service, and charming atmosphere.

Came here for Dine LA. They accommodated request to change number of people in the party. Hostess who greeted us was not too friendly. She had us choose between seating outside in the patio or by the kitchen. Since it was hot outside, we decided to take the table by the kitchen. Restaurant was not full since our reservations was for 15 minutes after they opened for business.
Food was great and price was appropriate for Dine LA. Service was great, too, made up for the hostess’ attitude. Owner/chef also came out and asked about the food. It’s all about customer service, right?

We tried the DineLA menu. Food was quite delicious and service was excellent. Overall experience was great. The only one thing I want to say is the food quantity is a bit too small in my opinion. I was actually not feeling full after finishing all three courses. I guess that's the French style afterall :)

What a find this was! Two of us had the Dine LA menu, two ordered a la carte, and the food was nothing short of fabulous. We have lived in LA for 40 years and never been here. It was great!

Dinning at this restaurant is an culinary experience you will not forget. So much so, you need to go back and try every item on the menu.

We had crab cakes, which had a strange, stringy texture; rib eye, which was almost spot-on, except for the the bland sauce, which lacked depth-of-flavor (mushrooms and a nice red wine in the sauce would have helped); escargot potato shells, which were pretty good flavor-wise, but terrible texture-wise because they cooked the kale, so the spines became hard and stringy, like bits of straw hay that snagged in your throat-- also the potato shells were too thick; and the arugula salad, which had so many different flavors but somehow not the right balance and texture and lacked any exceptional tasting ingredients (certainly no dry farm early girl tomatoes from the Ground Swell farm in Santa Cruz, so it was just a mediocre salad). For what we paid, it was a bit disappointing overall. The service was great though, as was the atmosphere, but I am boggled as to how this restaurant received 4.5 stars on Yelp.

I don’t typically leave reviews, but AFA was beyond amazing. From the second we entered, to the moment we left the hospitality was off the charts. Our server Lisa was extremely attentive and had some great conversations with us. Thank you to the chef Christian for stopping by to see how we enjoyed everything, that was something rarely ever see happen. The food itself was astonishing. Highly recommend and we’ll be back!

This is my “go to” restaurant. I love the vibe, the food, the personal touch. My guests from out of town loved it and chef Chris moved us beyond “oohs” and “aha” with a dessert on the house.

Where do I even begin! This place has never let me down. I've been here about 5 times before, but last night took the cake. The atmosphere is just so enjoyable and the owner is such a warm spirit. You truly feel at peace in the space, and that's before you even open the menu. The food... that's better than home. We started with the bread basket, which the bread has a delicious salt wash to it. Then ordered the cauliflower and Brussel sprouts that were impeccably cooked. I can't recommend those two enough. We also order the garlic truffle pomme frittes which came with delicious cooked full garlic cloves. I ordered the lamb shank which was perfectly cooked and literally fell off the bone. I can vouch that it's just as delicious next day to. My partner ordered the beef bourguignon which was lick the plate good. I didn't try my friends crab cakes but she raved about it. Oh and I almost forgot, the bone marrow was ridiculous. Just do yourself the favor and order it, even if you don't like marrow. We ended dinner with the creme brûlée and what a perfect end to a culinary experience. So glad that I went here instead of a few other options. Really a special little place and I can't wait to come back.

This experience was a real treat. The ambiance and service were both warm and inviting. The wine pours were generous. And the food was homemade delicious. My husband and I enjoyed our meal, and we are eager to go back. Highly recommend. LOVE.

If you want authentic French food without flying to France, this is the place. I had beef Burgundy, which was as good as any I've had in France. At other times I've started with the French onion soup, again, as good as any I've had in France. Ended up with lovely rich chocolate mousse (because it was my birthday.)

From start to finish my experience was absolutely amazing. Lisa the chef/owners daughter was not only knowledgable, but beyond personable. Appetizers, entrees, deserts, and sides had a perfect flavor profile. I’m visiting from New York, and this place truly gave me a memorable experience.

I was there to celebrate a friend's birthday and we were all blown away by the delicious food and excellent service. Every dish we ordered, from appetizer (Mushroom Torte) to main entrees (Beef Bourguinon and Lamb Shank Tagine), side (Brussel Sprouts), and desserts (Apple Pie & Coconut Pudding) - EVERY dish was delicious, super fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The waiters were super attentive, the chef even came out to say hello to all the tables and was very friendly. I cannot recommend this place enough, definitely will come back and refer to friends!!

Restaurant was a fantastic find!! Fantastic food. Great ambience. And the chef came out and we had a chance to talk with him. As a gift, he brought out two glasses of champagne with cassis, for my friend and I to celebrate our birthdays. Definitely a place to go back to.

such a great place to eat! food was incredible! chef came out himself to greet us and even gave my boyfriend a creme brûlée because they overheard me saying it was his birthday. will be back again
