I have been to Paris, Nice, and Saint Tropez. This place matches and surpasses many of the good restaurants I visited there. It’s a must - the food is incredible and nice ambiance.
The food here is to die for. This is my second time dining at the restaurant. It really feels like a family owned place because of the type of service you get. Definitely recommend the place. Their food is clean and well portioned, definitely get something to share along with your main course.
The duck confit falls of the bone, french onion soup is perfectly salted and uber cheesy! I also tried their special passion fruit mango lemonade -mmmmmm!!!! Def recommend.
We started with the Escargot - richly creamy, mixed with Kale, and on a Potato. For main courses, we had the Duck Confit and Beef Bourguignon, both works of culinary art that were beyond delicious! Toward the tail end of the main courses we realized we had not been served bread (and simultaneously told each other it wasn't needed - or wanted). I had written into the OpenTable reservation the (birthday) dessert suggestion, "Chocolate Mousse?" Our good fortune was that Chef Christian had made some that evening. Sublime - a mix of mousse, creme fraishe, chocolate bits, nuts, and (was it pineapple?) What a delightful discovery was A Food Affair. We will return, with friends!! Dayle and Joe Hartnett
Chef is very personable and nice. Food is so good. Don’t forget to order some desserts !
All around amazing. Delicious food. Great ambiance. Will 100% be back
Great food, fantastic service!
The food is great. You can't ask for any better. It had been awhile since we had been there and I did notice that the prices seemed to have increased quite a lot from what I remember....I suppose as they have become more well known and popular. The couple who own the establishment are very personable.
I highly recommend AFA for a special dining experience.
Amazing! The chef came out to check on everyone in the restaurant. Customer service above and beyond expectation .
As always, Christian and Babette were very welcoming and took great care of us this evening. We felt as if we were having dinner in their home. The Bouillabaisse was made to perfection and tasted just like my grandmother’s who was born and raised in Marseille, France. Christian is an artist when it comes to the decor of this restaurant. This was my third dinner at AFA, And I make a point of going to the restaurant every time I am in Los Angeles. Merci beaucoup pour la belle soirée!
French Neighborhood restaurant with very good traditional French cuisine. We had several dinners at the restaurant now and the high quality was consistent. Highly recommendable. It can get a bit noisy in the interior when busy (which it often seems to be during prime hours) but they have a cosy fully enclosed veranda with heaters where the noise level is not has high.
We’ve come here probably once a year over the past 6 years, every time has been great. This time was still very nice, but two things stuck out to us. We sat on the patio where we have sat every time we’ve been here. Every time someone would come in the front door it would slam hard enough to shake the walls of the patio. It happened consistently throughout our meal and was very loud and distracting, felt strange no one seemed to feel the need to do anything about it. The other thing was just feeling very rushed, we constantly felt like we were being hurried through our meal presumably so our table could be opened up. Food was still great and we would go back, but probably not for a holiday.
I'm blown away by the food and staff at A Food Affair. I came here to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday night. Not only was everyone incredibly friendly and accommodating, but the food was phenomenal. Chef Christian even came out to greet us and make sure everything was delicious.
The restaurant is warm and inviting and not pretentious at all. It was charming and perfect for my birthday. I'm already planning on coming back to bring a date here.
My friends and I had to try as much as possible (and we were NOT disappointed): The Mushroom Torte, Endive Salad, French Onion Soup, Jidori Chicken Liver, Duck Rilletes, Beef Bourgignon, Black Angus Ribeye, Scottish Salmon, Fried Red Snapper, etc. Everything was incredible but what really stood out was the Beef Bourgignon, Red Snapper, the Ribeye with the cognac sauce and the Chicken Liver. We also had the Creme Brulee, Meyer Lemon Cake and Chef Christian was kind enough to send out a three-layer chocolate mousse that was to die for.
There was a sign that said, "Come as strangers and leave as friends." That is absolute the vibe for this place.
Merci beaucoup pour la fantastique fête d'anniversaire!
Christian And Babette have created a beautiful space to enjoy fresh local food cooked to perfection in classic french style. The staff is professional and fun! There is ample street parking. The restaurant is a hidden gem that I hope never goes away!
Celebrated my parents anniversary here. The food was delicious and restaurant had a homey vibe. Our server was attentive and very generous to give my parents their own dessert for their anniversary.
Really excellent food beautifully prepared, and served in a timely, friendly manner. Both of use loved all three courses we had.
Amazing! Will always come back!
This place was truly exceptional! What a wonderful surprise. The ambience, service & food were top knot has. I had the escargot appetizer & duck entree with the most delightful lemon pie dessert. I am looking forward to my next visit. You cannot go wrong with A Food Affair. Make a reservation & go today!
Very friendly family owned restaurant. Would definitely recommend
Fantastic experience and service. We will be back!
Outstanding French bistro experience. Highly recommended.
Everything was great, but service could be better. Server didn’t greet himself so we didn’t order until I asked him. He responded that anyone could take our order because they’re not assigned sections.
Simply the best.
So glad we decided to try out this place during Dine LA. It will absolutely be a restaurant I return to and recommend to others!
A food affair is really a family style restaurant with haute cuisine. from the atmosphere to each dish on the menu, you will be enchanted you choose this place for dinner.
We loved it ! Great food ! Great service ! Cozy restaurant. Highly recommend.
New Year celebration
Excellent food, the mushroom tart and bone marrow were fantastic, and there was free street parking. Highly recommend!
We loved it and immediately made another reservation! Great food, wonderful service, warm ambience...can' say enough positive things about it. So glad to have gone so we know to go back!
Good French chef with consistent recipes for special foods.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, super charming atmosphere. Wonderful dining experience.
This is one of the most wonderful places in LA to dine. Christian and Babbette have established a true French Bistro experience! The food is outstanding, the service is superb and Babbette has a wonderful selection of very reasonable yet fantastic French wine list! I highly recommend dining with them!!
Truly delicious! Great service, would definitely recommend/return. Quite noisy, but do many places are...
Food was amazing. Chef takes pride in his food and visits each table. Great value for the money, and it's one of the best French restaurants I've ever been to.
What a cute and cozy restaurant with delicious food and amazing ambiance. The service was equally as amazing. Definately coming back and bringing all of my out of town's guests here.
We have dined here a few times and it never disappoints. In particular, the bone marrow starter is absolutely amazing. The waiter gave us a great wine suggestion which went very well with our entrees. Whether you go with friends or as a romantic meal, you will have a scrumptious meal memory.
Babette & Christian Royère are incredible people. We feel like we are part of their family each time we visit. At this point, my wife and I think of A Food Affair as "our restaurant." It is a place that is special to us, and we always come here to celebrate special occasions.
After spending hours browsing restaurants I decided to come to this restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We arrived on time for our reservation and we were sat immediately. The ambiance was great, It was cozy and you definitely feel you are at an authentic french restaurant. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the service. As a professional in the business, I expect the waiter to introduce himself, welcome us or at least greet us but he came to the table asking what we wanted to drink right away. To make this review short. We had the bone marrow and mushroom tart to start and I wasn't really impressed. The bone morrow had no much flavor and the tart was not hot, it came to the table room temperature and when I asked if that's how it should be served the served said "no". The Beef bourguignon was tasty, and the Bouillabaisse was very tasty. Perhaps if the starters would've been better I would've given this restaurant a better rating.
1. We thought the quality of the food (raw ingredients) and the imaginative technique and presentation was exceptional. 2. The wine list is not equally impressive but many take advantage of the 25 $ BYOB corkage fee. 3. Parking is a challenge and the neighborhood is scary, but the food is a great value, and the daily specials were just that. Atmosphere is a trifle austere and industrial for me but all of the young hipsters around me seemed to enjoy it. The food is described as French American and that seems right. French technique combined with fresh markets of California = food just as fresh as you get in Burgundy!
Excellent food, great service. Would definitely go back.
Very engaging staff, lovely atmosphere and inventive takes on French food. Highly recommend.
