Thé dessert was catastrophic: frangipane drowned in chocolate (never mix the two!), slices of pear lost their taste (if any), cake spongy.
Mussels very good.
Gravelox fine, but buckwheat blini soaked in cream....
Food was excellent as usual.
Our favorite place to eat in the east bay.
Only thing was,we had a reservation for 8 pm and didn't get seated until after 8:30.
But that was the only time that has ever happened.
Food was excellent as always. They were a little overwhelmed tonight and took them a little bit to bring out the food. Otherwise it was great
Loved the flat bread, which actually looks like a pizza. Wine list was filled with unknowns (to me), but the waiter made an excellent choice.
Our server seemed green. Only one dish was very good: the Steelhead. The pork tenderloin was dry and unremarkable, the salad was no better than my everyday salad I make at home. Overall a pretty disappointing meal compared to past experiences there.
I made a reservation for 8PM, didn't get sat at our table until 8:45. Even after watching the host seat a 4-top WITHOUT reservations that walked in off the street. They brought out the two of the three dishes we ordered, but forgot the third completely. Ultimately they comped us a couple of dishes and a dessert, but as this was a celebration dinner I felt robbed at the end of the meal. Pull your stuff together A Cote.
Chris was our server and he was great. The food was good. The wine was expensive.
The restaurant has a very unique and different wine menu. Our server was great and recommended a couple of good ones. I ordered lamb chops. It was over cooked and not as good a I expected. The dessert was great, can't remember the name but it was chocolate ice cream with chocolate chunks.
Wonderful restaurant with consistently great food and service. It unapologetically flies under the radar of those who flock to the new best thing. A place where foodies come to eat rather than be seen.
Very good neighborhood restaurant
Initial drink service could be substantially improved, pupus need to arrive same time as initial drinks, or very shortly thereafter.
We were pleasantly surprised at how good dinner was at this restaurant that we chose randomly. Everything we had was excellent and tasted like it had been prepared with care: the ribs, the lambchop, the pate and cheese plate with loads of accoutrements. It was also very easy to order gluten free and the kitchen didn't balk at substitutions. I felt good after the meal, and though I do take gluten enzymes to reduce effects of restaurant gluten contamination, it seemed cross-contamination was negligible enough to be completely subdued by the gluten enzymes. Service was a bit slow, but overall highly recommend dining here.
Another successful New Year's Eve dinner at A Cote! We love it there. Delicious food, great wine/cocktail menu, amazing service. Couldn't be more pleased.
Went on New Years Eve and had a splendid time. Very attentive waiters and excellent service. The food was really really good! Cocktails were on point. Will be back!!
I especially enjoyed my recent visit to this restaurant, having been to quite a few in the city and East Bay over the holidays. The service was very good, but the timing of the dishes (which are designed to be shared) was too fast. The wait person was attentive. The food was outstanding relative to other top places in the East Bay, very good compared to the Michelin starred spot I dined at a higher price, mind you. Definitively worth the trip.
Great neighborhood restaurant. They never disappoint. Love the changing menu and eclectic wine list.
Superb food, service. We were a party of eight and regret that there are no round tables for larger parties. We should have changed places each time they cleared the tables to facilitate conversation.
Excellent food, great service. A lovely evening.
I’ve been here a few times over the years and have always had a wonderful time. The only reason for a 3 Star on service is that they seemed to be a little busy the night I went and service was lagging a bit and it seemed the kitchen wasn’t keeping up as one of our orders took forever to come out. We we ended under cancelling it as we had a show to get to.
We had a very good dinner. Started with mussels, always good at A Coté. We split the entrées, scallops and short ribs. The scallops were done perfectly and I enjoyed the red beet risotto (much to my surprise!). However, there were only four small scallops and four small pieces of broccoli, so the value for this was, in my opinion, below average. The short ribs, with an excellent sauce on the puréed potato and turnip was very good. We had a couple of glasses of an interesting French viognier with the mussels and scallops, and a class of a very interesting red from Palestine, very much in the Italian style.
Food was average but expensive.
I enjoyed the meal... but I'm afraid that too many of the dishes just slightly missed the mark. For example, the fries-with-aioli had all the ingredients to be great, but the fries were not crispy, so the overall experience came in as a "B+" instead of an "A". Likewise the Croque Monsieur: the ham was good, but the cheese lacked character (as in, "didn't taste like gruyere") and the bread was forgettable... so the thing was more like an American grilled cheese-and-ham sandwich than the French dish that the name suggests. Not that that's bad, but it's not great, either.
So certainly worth another try, but slightly disappointing because it could have been great!
Always like coming to A Côté. Service was fine but could use a little more knowledge and energy. Still look forward to coming again.
A Cote has consistently delivered excellent menus --food, cocktails, wine, dessert. It's been around forever relative to the high turnover and openings of Oakland restaurants over the past 3-5 years, but remains a strong contender both for ambiance and taste. I choose it whenever someone from out of town comes--good for health nuts and meat eaters alike. Beautiful.
I've been going to A Cote for about fifteen years, and I must say, they've kept up with the times. A neighborhood gem!
I really enjoyed the restaurant for a birthday celebration it was very festive the offerings were very mixed and all the licious prices were a little higher than I anticipated. The dessert was fabulous
Great selection of food and wine. Service is excellent - everyone is so friendly and helpful!
Food was excellent, wine list is all old world and includes many Georgian selections- we really enjoyed this. Service was really nice but so so on a few things- delivery of meals from kitchen was as ready rather than for the table of 6 of us (odd- would be more understandable for a larger table) and pacing of taking order was very very slow. On the other hand, server was very knowledgeable about wine and generous with tastes to allow us to make a selection.
Overall I think this restaurant is a great find and worth the quirky service for the great food, wine and ambiance.
Lovely back room which was much more quiet and intimate than the front side of the house. Service was a bit slow and somewhat rushed - but still polite and attentive.
Our server Paul was the best we have had for a while. So considerate. When we ordered Georgian wines he came with wine bowls from Georgia for us to drink out of. What a kind gesture. The food was amazing and the service even better, all for very reasonable prices. So happy that we came here tonight.
Acote never disappoints! Always bring my nephew when he is in town.
I love this place the food is exquisite, well prepared and presented , it's very dark and romantic and you have a real sense of privacy, European feel. Feels casual and expensive at the same time. I love tapas style restaurants , sharing food is an intimate thing to do
Good food and service. Very intriguing atmosphere. Quite dark, and you need candles to read the menu. Interesting and different wine list. We liked the Italian white that our server recommended.
We came to celebrate our Anniversary, and A Cote didn't disappoint! The food was just perfect, the waitstaff was helpful, knowledgeable about their food and drink menus, and super attentive! Great time, very cozy and warm atmosphere- the cocktails are amazing.
Neighborhood gem. Cozy, popular. Food really delicious.
Nice place, decent food. Seemed overpriced for what you got and where it is. But still a good meal.
Delicious food - yummy pomme frites, unique flatbreads , comfortable setting, helpful friendly service.
An enjoyable Sunday night dinner. Chicory salad was light and lovely. Pork Osso Buco with Polenta Verde was very tasty, as was the skirt steak. Chocolate pear dessert was a dude- very heavy pastry, and almost non-existent pear. Two excellent wines by the glass recommended by the waiter.
Lovely place. Service is very attentive but not at all stuffy. The food is a great synergy of classic things such as steak and pommes frites together with innovation and creativity. I love everything I eat here and the wine list is just fantastic.
I like the mussels and frites and they were delicious, as always.
