We were here for our sons birthday. Everything was wonderful from cocktails to dessert ! We had the mussels, seared Opah (amazing !), papperdele with wild mushrooms, chicory salad, artichoke flatbread - everything delicious and we would order them all again. Banana bread pudding and mousse au chocolat for dessert - perfect!
We loved the Apple Hazelnut Salad and the Pork Chops but the Seared Opah was a little plain. The ambiance is nice and cozy, and they do a great job converting the outdoor patio space into indoor space, but we still felt draft coming through the seams of curtains.
I always appreciate the food here and the servers. They know exactly what is included in each meal and all about their amazing wines.
We celebrated Valentines Day! The food was wonderful. We love A Côté
We go there for the amazing food. We only wish the service would be better. It feels like we are bothering the waitstaff for service and the constant eye rolling gets old. And let me be clear it not the entire waitstaff just a few that have, let’s call them regulars. So if you’re a fixture there you’ll get good service. But, if your not just enjoy the few hours you’ll be there while you get served.
The food was mostly tasteless. My date had chicken that was almost inedible because it was so dry.
The service was actually horrible, boarding on hostile. We had to beg for bread or drink refills. The pour on the first glass of wine was tiny (2 oz). We complained and the server added about a tablespoon more of wine.
We complained to the manager and he took one entree off the bill, but seemed to not care at all about the service.
Thank you very much for a wonderful night and great food!
The fish at the table next to me was undercooked and we watched the story unfold... it wasn't our plate but made us wary. My steak was ordered as medium rare... and it arrived extremely rare - I didn't mind and I didn't send it back but it was not cooked as ordered. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the very eclectic wine list and provided me with the perfect accompaniment to my steak. Salad was great. The main dish was great. Dessert mousse was great as was my americano. We were sat at a table on a temperature challenged outdoor patio despite having reservations. Again, the server made it all just fine and I would have much preferred to be on a dinner date with her than the person I was with. Haha!
A bestie and I celebrated our birthdays here and loved every minute of it. The steak was scrumptious, the French fries were to die for, the hazelnut salad was tasty, the pear and pancetta flatbread was out of this galaxy, and the cup a cote was absolutely delectable. On top of it all, the service went above and beyond. I’m giving five stars overall and four to the food, service and ambiance each as they were all excellent. But the experience in all was more than the sum of its parts. Thanks for a lovely evening A Cote!
Outstanding waiter, Damion, offered excellent advice re meal and wine. Food was excellent
It’s a bit loud in the front room for conversation. The bartender and waiter were terrific,
I had been to A Coté in 2016, when I hosted a very successful group dinner. Returned now, 2020, with my wife for a date night. We were seated in the back room, which is far less atmospheric than the front room -- no music, "tent-like" decor, and under-heated, yet low noise. The menu was such that, somehow, there was nothing attractive among the entrees -- there were two pizzas (aka flatbread), pork, steak, fish, and pasta, and none of those tickled our fancy. We landed up getting a bottle of Spanish red wine (prominent cherry flavor) and yummy house olives, by which we whiled our wait for moules and pomme fritte (both excellent). Then came a terrine which one of us liked very much, while the other thought 'meh.' For desserts we had tea/espresso and banana-bread / cheeses. After tax but before tip, this all came to about $162, which -- what with no entrees -- feels over-priced. The next day we both agreed that the best bites of the entire evening was dipping the baguette into the moules' pronounced spicy sauce. We will try coming back, making sure to reserve the front dining room, but only if, in advance, we see online some entree to salivate over.
We had not been to A Cote in over a year. The $2.00 oysters on Wednesday brought us back for an outstanding meal. The oysters, mussels, wine, and cocktails were all quite good. In the past the mussels were in the oven so long they were dry and the shells disintegrated when I tried to pry them open. This visit the mussels were perfect. A lovely restaurant for any occasion.
Our first time . It was my husband’s birthday. Everything was amazing. Can’t wait to go back.
First time diners. Had always wanted to dine here but you know the saying, ‘too many restaurants, too little time’.
Our reservations were at 5:30 on a Friday night & the place filled up quickly. It was obvious that this is a neighborhood gem as the host recognized many of the folks with gracious greetings & cheery conversation.
I had their famous mussels & pomme frites, began with the little gem salad & ended with the warm banana bread pudding. Needless to say, I was in heaven! My dining partner started with the cauliflower soup & her entree was the pork tenderloins. Both delicious as well, I know because I snuck in a taste or two!
Finally, I want to make mention about how exquisite the service is. Very efficient, not obtrusive-just terrific teamwork that accentuated a wonderful meal.
Paola took great care of us & will certainly see if I can request her at our next visit.
Thank you A Côté’ for a memorable evening & for taking our minds off of this crazy world we now live in, even for a few hours!
Food was fantastic! Great vibe to the place... hadn't been there in awhile but will go back again soon!
We frequent this restaurant, but it’s always special to celebrate my birthday there as well!
The food was very interesting, and quite tasty. Since we only ordered 2 meals, I'm not sure if everything on the menu was spicy, but our two dishes were. We really enjoyed the food, but if everything is spicy, it can get old after a while. I look forward to trying it again.
We came out for restaurant week and we will definitely be coming back! Portions were more than adequate and the food was absolutely delicious. Our server was very attentive and everyone working seemed to be alert and very helpful. Great experience all around.
Came in for restaurant week. Had everything on the pre fixe menu with my girlfriend which was soooo much food. Excellent service and friendly waiter who helped recommend some unique and interesting wines. The starters were a bit of a miss with the salad, though the soup was decent. Mussels were amazing, as was the pasta. Couldnt finish the desserts, but they were tasty for sure. Would highly recommend a reservation as there was a huge crowd at the door, even on a Tuesday evening.
Birthday. Very simple. Surprised because no big deal. Candle on a plate.
Love this nice cozy place close to home! The mussels are wonderful, especially with the Pommes Frites! The salads are delicious too.
A cote is absolutely the best! It’s our favorite restaurant for celebrations as well as for strolling in to enjoy an exotic glass of wine and a bowl full of delicious mussels. We love the intimate setting, the intriguing wine list, the delicious menu and the knowledgeable staff.
Food is always good. We love this place!
The food was delicious; the service was also very good. However, 6 people at a very table very close
To ours were exceptionally loud and boisterous. It was difficult for our group of 4 to carry on a conversation. when they pulled out their party hats,it t was a sign that they should have been in a different place. They really disturbed us!
I usually love A
Menu varies by week. The mussels were excellent along with the goose confit flatbread. Definitely will return.
Friendly atmosphere, outstanding service great food
The ambience is lovely and festive in the front but also in the back area (heated and beautifully lit). Our server was super professional and pleasant. The food is fantastic and beautifully plated with substantial portions. They kindly waive the $20 corkage fee if you buy one bottle from their menu and bring one bottle from home.
Customer service was adequate but not outstanding. Food was very good. Patrons should be aware that this restaurant specializes in unique cuisine and that the wine list is heavily slanted toward European wines with attention to Eastern European wines.
Very diverse small plates. Desserts were disappointing.
A very disappointing experience. First, service was very slow; my wife had to wait 50 minutes from the time we were seated to get her first food (her glass of wine came promptly). When her mussels finally came, she ate a few of them and found them all sandy. She rejected the dish, and then dined on the French fries she'd also ordered, and on tiny bits of my soup and fish. My sole dish was spoiled for me by the sharp sauce it was covered with -- sole is a delicate fish, and the pesto was too much for it; the sole was completely blanketed by the over-aggressive sauce. We may not return to A Cote.
Love this place! Great food, great service, interesting wine list!
We consider A Cote among the very best restaurants in Oakland. The food is always outstanding. We went with friends and shared appetizers and entrees. We even got dessert, which we usually don't do, and this was also terrific. This is the restaurant for those special occasions or when you just want excellent food.
Excellent food but inattentive service and quit loud
Unfortunately the service was a bit below par: not very helpful with the menu, felt we had inconvenienced server when we weren’t ready to order, and had to ask for check.
Food was good as we’ve had before but the service left a bit of a bad taste.
This was the second time i've visited this restaurant and unfortunately, the service was terrible. Plates were delivered to the table without share plates and the proper silverware (we had to share a spoon for our soup, and eat off the same plate for our salad). Then our entrees were delivered at the wrong time and not coordinated, so that half of us were eating while the other half waited quite along time. The server was rude about the whole thing and at one point even said "i'm done". When the manager came over, i didn't find her to be appropriately sympathetic. The server who took over for the rude man was wonderful, but by that point, our experience was ruined. For a meal that costs nearly $400, i'd expect a much higher level of service. We definitely won't go there again.
Felt rushed to leave and to order the moment we sat down even though we had a reservation. Mussels were also over cooked which was pretty disappointing. The salads were the best part of the meal.
I've been going to this restaurant for years and it has been one of my favorite restaurants. So, I was surprised by my experience tonight.. I found the restaurant changed. The service was marginal, the food was OK and it's expensive. I'm bummed; this was my favorite restaurant.
This was our first visit to A Cote. This is a cozy place, and everyone was friendly. We ordered and split the chicory/persimmon salad, fried cauliflower and chicken fricassee. Also, had a dessert to die for. This was such a nice and tasty evening. Thanks, A Cote!
