À Côté is a small-plates restaurant in Oakland's charming Rockridge district. Cozy tables surround large communal tables in both the main dining room and on the sunny patio to create a festive atmosphere. Small plates reflecting the best of seasonal Mediterranean cuisine are served family-style by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Menu items are paired with a carefully chosen selection of over 40 wines by the glass as well as a highly diverse bottled wine menu. Specialty drinks featuring fresh fruits, rare botaniques and fine liqueurs are featured at the bar.
Amazing food, wonderful wine, lovely ambiance and friendly, informed servers. Loved it!
Mussels were terrific, large and flavorful, sauce amazing. Stuffed focaccia also great, cheese filling tangy as advertised, focaccia thin and crisp. Avoid the strawberry panzanella with olive oil mousse though. Nothing special or worse. Nice atmosphere. We could hear each other, lighting was low, and service excellent.
Always great! Love to go there.
It was good, certainly an experience worth saving your appetite for. Thought the wine selection was great international variety, but expensive and you don't get that much wine. Recommend sitting outside!
we were a table of 5. a couple arrived after a bit the reservation but a cote was more than ready to seat those of us who arrived on time. the timing of the food, the cocktails, wines, beers could not have been better. no one in our party felt rushed, we were allowed to take our time, enjoy the patio, converse those that were gathered around the table. all in all a very pleasant, comfortable evening at a cote.
Food was all imaginative and delicious. But tables are too close together and noise level was disappointing high. Spent my birthday straining to hear my husband. Not the hoped for special evening!
Our server knew how to help us with a very complicated wine list- it was perfect!
Excellent place for date night!!! Great food and great wine.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary.
We researched many places to go and celebrate and were able to make an 8pm reservation via Open Table at 7:30 and noted our anniversary.
Our server was very nice and informed us everything was meant for sharing. After ordering 1 small plate and 2 large plates to course out, we waited 40 + minutes for our first course, the mussels, which were amazing!! While waiting for the mains, the food runner was slamming down candle votives on the wall next to our table- very intrusive.
Our main steak dish was delivered in the middle of the table with no share plates or serving utensils. Our server was obviously busy but we were left to pick at the dish in the middle of the table with our forks and no plates. The food runner then dropped our pasta dish with no serving spoon, share plates or the opportunity for us to let him know we needed share plates, which was obvious. We had to run after our server to tell her we needed plates and I had to stop the manager on duty for a serving spoon for the pasta shells.
After almost 2 hours for 3 dishes, we needed to get home to pick up our 10-month old daughter and no one acknowledged our anniversary. We asked our server for the check which she dropped. We put our credit card immediately on the book, my husband went to the restroom and then I went to the restroom and the card was still not processed. Our server walked by 2 more times before my husband got up and followed her to the station asking to pay. To which, she responded “Great” and took the bill.
After poor service and poor attention to detail I’m shocked that our server wasn’t more apologetic or considerate of our wait time. The manager brought our processed check and thanked us but our server never did. We will not be back.
This was a disappointing evening, and we have been to this restaurant many times. The table was sticky and had not been cleaned carefully. My entree came 10 minutes before my husbands entree. Needless to say that did not make for a good dining experience. His entree, a sausage was mostly eggplant an very little sausage. The dessert fritters were as always good. Too bad, this was a very busy Saturday and the kitchen could not keep up with the demand.
Quality of food was very good. Selection was not to my liking.
Everything was delicious. We had the steak, pork sausage and duck.
Was just talking with friends about never having had a less than great experience at A Cote. Well, this wasn’t an A+ meal. Service was great; loved our waiter. Mussels, fries, nectarine & prosciutto flatbread always winners. But then we tried two sides - a roasted summer vegetables & a couscous dish. Couscous was dry & unpleasant. Vegetable dish was boring. Focaccia de Recco was OK, nothing to write home about. My first somewhat disappointing meal at A Cote. Bummer.
Great wine selections... lots of special regions and countries.
The food was great and the service was exactly what we needed. Thanks
Every dish is delicious and unique. The wines are a phenomenal experience. For flavors that are totally unique to the bay, go here soon. Love'd it and will be back.
Loved the almond-grape soup!
Lucked out and scored the cute booth in the back...the restaurant is dark and dreamy and it’s fun to settle in, try lots of different wines and dishes family style - all round great experience!
The food, ambiance and most off the staff especially the manager were super kind and wonderful. Our waitress just ruined the night for us she is a settlement to the place.
Really disrespectful and self inflated. Sad for an otherwise wonderful restaurant.
I cannot recommend the place until they correct her or remove her.
The food was excellent and our server struck the perfect balance between being attentive without being intrusive.
THE WINE LIST IS FOOLISH... NOT WELL ORGANIZED AND OVERLY EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT THEY HAVE... FOOD VERY POORLY COOKED... WIFES DUCK WAS WAY OVERCOOKED, COUSCOUS WAS MUSHY. MY ZUCCHINI BLOSSOMS WERE NO CHRISP INDEED OVER BATTERED AND TOUGH, MY CRUDO SLIMMY AND BAD TASTING
WE, WIFE AND I, SHALL NOT RETURN EVEN THOUGH IT IS A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM OUR HOUSE
A Cote has gone downhill. Restaurant is extremely dark, even during daylight hours to the point where it is difficult to read the menu or even see the food! Salmon was over cooked and tough; table for two so small there wasn’t enough room for water and wine glasses and our plates once entrees, served family style were added. Service good but didn’t make up for the ambience and food.
Very good food and Service. We had a variety of appetizers and entrees.
We have loved and frequented A Cote for years, but our meal last week was a real disappointment. The food was average at best, the waiter forgot to order dishes that we had requested (and then pretended not to have made the mistake), and the lighting was so dark that we could barely see what we were eating. Hope it was just an off-night. We would hate to see this Rockridge gem decline.
The food is fabulous and the service is spectacular. Highly recommended
This was my second time at A Cote. I was glad to find a different menu, and even happier to find out that the food was as delicious as it was the first time I went there. From appetizers to dessert, everything was really good, with a taste that is unique. The service is great and there is no rush to see you outside the restaurant (which I found great).
I have been here over several years and it is always moderately good. They try too hard with the menu to be unique, but unfortunately they usually miss the mark.
If they would just stick to some fundamentals of providing a menu selection that doesn't involve checking google as to what the heck it is, they would be a 4.5 stars.
I ate there once when the food was so basic and so outstanding, but unfortunately it has never been repeated. Too much effort on their part to be unique.
Also, the mussels and frittes are the most over-rated selection on the menu. The kitchen needs to go the Sidebar in Oakland to see how they should be prepared. Please don't be fooled by the wait staff that tells you they are known for this dish - if they are, they should be ashamed.
Notwithstanding all of that, it is still a moderately good restaurant in the Oakland area and I will probably go again but will probably leave somewhat disappointed.
Very pleasant evening with good food in a great outdoor seating on the patio. I just found $ 9 -14 for a glass of wine (ca 0.2l) quite pricey!
I had requested a table in the patio area and we were seated at a nice spacious one in a corner, which was perfect since we were engaged in deep conversation all night. I was with a couple of girlfriends who were dining here for the first time and they enjoyed everything (yay!). We had a very leisurely dinner and stayed for coffee and dessert but at no time did we feel rushed, and our server was very friendly and accommodating. All the dishes were very good, including our dessert choices. By the end we were so full and couldn’t finish our desserts, and now I find myself craving one of them. Must go back soon. Overall an excellent evening, with excellent service all around, from the hostess to the servers. Thank you! 😊💫
Enjoyable dinner overall!
Good food, great service and ambiance!
I’ve gone to A’Cote in years past and had a good experience. This time, the service was poor and one of our parties’ entree arrived 20 min after the rest of the entrees. The waiter was not apologetic. I will not go to this restaurant again.
We have returned several times to this neighborhood gem. Although loud, we still managed to converse with friends who were first timers. Food is consistently good.
Fantastic AS USUAL!!! Our go to across town met all of our expectations, as usual! We love A Côtè!! Their Mussels and Fries are, hands down, THE BEST!!!
I had the loin of pork. It was unusually bland. The lentils were fine.
They continue to do a great job year after year with the food and beverage. They have a great happy hour also which is very popular.
I have walked by this restaurant a hundred times; however, for some reason never made it inside. -until this Bastille Day. What a wonderful experience. We sat outside in a charming patio surrounded by flowers. The food was terrific for everyone -especially the steak, scallops and muscles in the most amazing broth (had to ask for extra bread twice to sop up all the delectable goodness). I will be coming back for more very soon.
Have been wanting to try the mussels at A Cote for quite a while and was not disappointed! They were large and sweet and the pernod infused broth was delicious. My husband had the scallops and loved them. We shared a generous order of perfect pommes frittes.
The one negative I have is the general attitude of the staff. The gentleman who seated us checked our reservation and took us to our table barely acknowledging us. Our waiter was cordial, answered our questions, but seemed to just be going through the motions.
We would return for the food, but hope that the staff would be more welcoming.
For the price, the food was very disappointing. I won’t come back again.
Fries were way too salty and, coming from a salt lover, it’s saying a lot. The service was also somewhat lacking. The best part is the outdoor patio dining in the back. Otherwise would probably not come again.
What made this evening was not the meal but the special guests singers Kitka.
