A CA Mia-Cape May
We are located across from the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on the Washington Street Mall. We are available for Private Parties, Rehearsal Dinners, and Christmas Parties.
The historical building that now houses Ristorante A CA MIA was built in 1872. William Essen operated a bakery and ice cream parlor until 1914 when he sold it to his niece and her husband, Carl and Margaret Kokes. The business remained in his family for over 60 Years. The bakery is one of the oldest bakeries in continuous operation in the country. By the mid 1930s, the ice cream parlor had become the dining room and the business was operated as a restaurant as it is to this day. Our kitchen is under the direction of Chef Todor Videv. We are available for private parties. We offer early seating dinner selections. We accommodate well behaved children.
I hadn’t been to A Ca Mia in a long time. Someone gave us a gift certificate. We both loved our meals-lasagna and veal parm with capellini and a side of fresh asparagus.
The limoncello dessert was wonderful. I think it ties with Oyster Bay’s Key Lime Mousse for the best in town!
I also had a large excellent salad. My meal was actually a pris fixe three course offering for $39.
We will definitely be adding A Ca Mia to our normal restaurant rotation.
Overall the dining experience was good and we'll most likely return another time. The background noise volume was a little more than I prefer and the waiter was a little abrasive, seemed like all he cared about was getting us in and out quickly, but he was diligent respectful all the same.
The service was good. They are not very accommodating if you want to switch something up on menu. The food was just ok and ok is not ok for the prices they charge. The bread has black olives in it. I wasn’t a fan. I asked for plain bread and he said this is all we have.....that’s poor, being they have a bakery attached with all types of plain rolls and breads. The salads we ordered were very good but hard to screw that up. I had linguini with clam sauce and it had absolutely no taste, very bland. My husband had linguini with sausage with marinara sauce and he said it was something you would get at your local pizza shop....nothing special. The cannolis they served were runny and tasted awful. We were afraid to eat them. At that point, I just wanted to get out of there. The thing is, they have a prime location on Washington street so it is convenient to eat there but they need to step it up!!
Most enjoyable lunch at A Ca Mia. Always good when you can BYOB. Service was pleasant and food was fresh.
Great food - Enjoyed the artwork - Nice hardworking staff
Awesome as usual! Absolutely love A Ca Mia and recommend it to everyone!
A Ca Mia is our “go to” restaurant when town is busy. 6 of us went and everyone was happy with the food and the service. The summer salad is really delicious. Everyone in our party ordered it and there was nary a lettuce leaf left on the plates! “Osobuco” (sp?) is to die for and ravioli sampler is also great. I was happy to learn that the surly waiter is no longer there. Everyone else is delightful!
We enjoy dining at A Ca Mia on Sunday nights. The food is delicious. The appetizers are fabulous and plentiful. The staff is very friendly and attentive. A wonderful restaurant to try if you are visiting Cape May.
I was delighted with my meal. I began with the stuffed mushroom on polenta and wilted greens. Then the braised pork shank which was perfection. Finished the meal with A Ca Mia Napoleon. A perfect ending to a wonderful meal.
Excellent as usual! Will be taking advantage of off season to visit until they close!
Awesome experience great food !!
We arrived for our reservation on time, a tiny table outside was available but we asked to sit inside. We waited about 15 minutes and were seated. The service was decent, but the food mediocre at best. I would not return.
We rarely have a complaint about ACa Mia. The food is good for a more than reasonable price and they generally treat us very well as we are frequent diners. This night, it happened to be extremely busy and the people at the table behind us were obnoxiously loud. However, this aside, our waiter whom we had never dealt with before seemed miffed when my husband asked for a smaller box for his leftovers so that we could fit it in our bike basket to take it home. He never asked us if we wanted dessert and abruptly proffered our bill. Everyone else was very nice so I will ask not to have this particular waiter again.
We were seated immediately and service was fast and friendly. The only reason for everything not being 5 stars is the noise level which was very loud.
A Ca Mia is amazing but even better in the off season when it’s quiet. The food is always delicious and servers are very attentive. Even in the busy summer season the dishes do not take long to arrive. Fast kitchen, quality food, nice atmosphere. Bakery next door is fully stocked, however I have not tried anything there yet. Just what is served in the restaurant, coffee and desserts.
Overall, a very good experience at A Ca Mia-Cape May. We were seated only with about a minute wait. Tables and chairs tight but comfortable enough. Somewhat noisey but able to talk without too much of raising voices. Service was very good along with our meals, with everything ordered coming out in a timely fashion. Will definitely dine there again and always enjoy going to the bakery.
It was clean food good wait staff attentive, a few very strange things I liked was , the curtains at the windows very so very crisp and clean and also soup was served with a paper doily under it! It is the little touches that mean and say a lot about a restaurant!!!
Overpriced. Worse than mediocre food. We were rushed through dinner. Appetizers and entrees arrived at the same time. They tried taking plates away before we were finished eating. Will not return.
The service was excellent food was fantastic
Had dinner outside in front of the bakery entrance at a small table for two. The only downside, although it was a very nice evening, was the constant foot traffic in and out of the bakery which was very distracting.
The dinners were good and the service was ok.
The food was very good. Will definitely return when we visit the area again.
Tio is a great waiter! Braised Pork Shank was fabulous and the lasagna was too. Nice arugula salad with very good dressing. Yummy all the way around.
Our reservation for 8 was honored on time...the food was tasty and served well (looked good on the plate). I would recommend this restaurant to whomever may be traveling to Cape May.
Food was freshly made and cooked to order. The service was also great. Would recommend
Average Italian cuisine in a touristy area.Overall, perfuctory -- the ambience was better than the actual food.
Fantastic experience all around.
Food was excellent and atmosphere very nice. We sat outside for dinner and enjoyed sightseeing. Server lacking energy/enthusiasm and personality. He knew there was a member of our party missing (my husband in bathroom) yet he ran through the specials anyway even after me telling him. He then forgot to bring food item which was part of my sons dinner (the meatball which was part of the “penne and meatball” kids menu option) and then blamed it on me(?). When he handed us the check we immediately gave him our card (as we had to go to meet friends) and he refused to take it saying he first needed to drop off the check to another table (?). The hostess witnessed the scene so she swooped in and grabbed on our behalf. I would definitely go back but would ask to be seated at table with new server.
Located in the heart of the Washington Mall area of Cape May, A Ca Mia is a charming restaurant with an inviting atmosphere and quaint seating. The food was explained well in the menu and in the specials, all of which sounded superb. Our orders were taken promptly and professionally by the courteous staff. The food was served equally well and prompt. Our appetizers and entrees were delicious and I must confess that I had to break some bread to sop up every last morsel and bite. It was a beautiful breezy night and even though there were many people around, it was most civilized and harmonious. Cape May is one of my favorite places and A Ca Mia only gave me further reason to love this little slice of paradise.
The service was great but the food was average at best. It Is possible that it was just an off night for the restaurant. I don’t think I would ever go again and I probably would not recommend to family and friends.
Everything was wonderful. We cannot wait to go back.
One of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Waiter was not happy to be answering any questions. BYOB so few choices on menu. Wine was god awful. Bruschetta app was bland. The tomato and mozzarella app had no flavor ! Asked for the balsamic glaze; he throws balsamic vinegar on the table. My $37 filet was rare.. asked for medium. The owner was standing at the hostess stand and I called him over and he sent back to kitchen. I replaced the mashed potatoes w angel hair and it came on the plate in a bowl w no sauce. Nothing ! I asked the waiter for some sauce and they brought the bowl back w a dab of Marinara. Spent $127 on crappy wine, bland app and awful filet ! Keep on walking
A CA Mia is a favorite of ours. We eat there almost every time we visit Cape May. The food is excellent!
The meal and ambiance was great - The weather was very nice that evening. Wine and food were great. If I could propose to ensure the tables for 2 should have a bit more space between, especially from chair to chair since it was very tight - the table was very small. We are for sure recommending this restaurant and will be back again in 2020. Thanks.
Food was very good. Got one of the specials, a tortellini dish which was amazing. The lasagna was very good.
Great place - would have rated higher except a couple of shrimp in shrimp cocktail were not properly deveined
Dined here on our last night of vacation and will make it a tradition! Courteous and knowledgeable wait staff with great food recommendations. Looking forward to returning next summer!
Had to wait 20 min past reservation time. They were very busy. Service was good overall but had to wait for water refills, ice bucket, etc
Great food and atmosphere
