About
Comfort & contrast. International & local. You & us.
Like the legendary A&P that stood here before us, we believe in community and bringing people together. We’ve created this place to do just that: serve you, your pals & family, the most exquisite cocktails & selection of comfort food you’ve ever had. Again & again & again. We’ve travelled the world collecting these concoctions. Hunting & lovingly gathering recipes from every kitchen, pub, club & café along the way, so that you can simply walk down the block & enjoy.
So, to our fellow Woodstock neighbors & those passing through with shiny flannel & boots: We kindly ask, who among us couldn’t use a perfect DRINK & DISH? Welcome One & All, to The A&P Bar.
Came here for my husbands birthday. Everything was fabulous!! Lovely waitress and owner! Will be back!
From the service to the hospitality to the food to the ambience A&P gets it right!!
This place has lots of potential. The atmosphere is great. The drinks and menu are good. But they have to get the service together. Went with another couple. We were seated upstairs, and then sat for 20 minutes while staff came and went, never even glancing at the table. Not so much as a glass of water, a menu, and certainly not a drink. It felt like, “If I don’t glance over, I won’t have to deal with what’s (not) going on at that table.” Husbands went down to get our own drinks from the bar. When we finally got their attention, they tried from there on out but never quite hit it. I’m pulling for this place and want to put it on our regular rotation. And I sympathize, I’m guessing it’s a challenge to find good staff. Will try it again because it really does have potential.
New Year’s Eve 2018. First time here. Every sip and every morsel of food is craft all the way. Definitely recommend.
Outstanding craft cocktails: Sazerac infused with cherry smoke is a favorite. The menu: upscale pub food and consistently tasty after a bit of a rough patch at the beginning. We tend to chose the bar so we can watch the elaborate drinks being made. Tippler tip: Under the bar, USB charging outlets in addition to the usual Yankee coat hooks.
This was our first visit to A&P bar. Very cool place with excellent food and service. Our only issue was...sitting upstairs got uncomfortably hot at times with staff having to open and shut door to the outside in an attempt to moderate the temperature. That said...we had a great time and a great meal. We will be back.
My favorite restaurant in Woodstock, food is great, the look is great. A terrific addition to Woodstock.
Limited menu, the bar is the draw.
Well I expected a busier popular place. I was cold right off the bat and had to ask to turn up the heat. I don't like dining with a coat on. Food was okay but not what I expected. I probably wouldn't go back. A restaurant food needs to be great not to be forgotten. The place was very hard to find and was at the dark side of the back of a building. I just wasn't feelin it back there.
It was tricky to find but once we found it, we were pleasantly surprised. It took us a while to get our drinks but was pleased with them once they arrived. We got a complimentary round from the owner - good customer service!
A fine spot for dinner before shws in Levon's Barn.
We got there at 10 on a Friday night which isn’t so late for a restaurant that is open until 1am. They had run out of 3 of the 7 entrees on the menu. Disappointing.
The Catskill salad is tasty, though I didn't detect quinoa as promised. The dumpsters parked outside the bay window spoiled the view on an evening before a concert at the Barn, which was why my friend and I came to Woodstock. She liked her burger but had asked for no bun, which did arrive and took up plate space that she'd have liked to use for the delicious fries instead.
This is a mainstay for me, one of my favorite places in Woodstock
A&P Bar just misses the mark on every level. The food is hit or miss. My husband and I each had the elotes (Mexican street corn) and it was delicious. It came out of the kitchen hot and had the perfect amount of spices on it. We had to wait an hour for it, but considering the people at the table next to us had to wait almost 2 hours for their salads (!) I considered us lucky. Our entrees came out together, but it was clear that my husband’s butter milk fried chicken was done well before my salmon because it was room temperature. Neither entree offered any spectacular or interesting flavors. They were both adequate. We each had a cocktail- the dungaree, which lived up to its promise of “bourbon at its best” and the lemon thyme gimlet, which was way too lemony, so the thyme was totally overpowered. We skipped dessert because we had been there over two hours and did not feel like waiting another hour for the dessert.
Our server was friendly, but totally overwhelmed and, therefore, very inattentive. One woman next to us had to walk around the restaurant so that she could find someone to take her drink order. A red flag should have gone up when we walked in at 7:15 for our 7:15 reservations and we were told to wait by three empty tables. Then 5 minutes later told to sit at one of the empty tables. Like why couldn’t we have just sat down when we first got there? Again, we were lucky because about 15 minutes after we came in, a group of 3 women came in with a 7:30 reservation, which could not be accommodated. They had to sit at the bar. The server kept apologizing for the delay in food and said that they were busier than anticipated, but it was a Saturday night in Woodstock and the restaurant was full, but at the price point they fall at, they need to do much much better.
Our food took 45 minutes (we didn’t order appetizers) and the steak arrived luke warm.
Waitress spilled drink on me and offered no comp.
When asked for mayonnaise we were told they were out of that and aioli yet the next table got French fries with aioli a few minutes after I asked.
Will not be hearing back.
We made the reservation far in advance and even arrived a little early. The restaurant had not started filling up yet and the table they said they had reserved for us was right next to the door (looking out at their terrible view of the back side of the grocery store). Fortunately our server was very nice and offered us a better table. The food was excellent and the menu was easy to understand. While we had several people come to our table to check on us, our water glasses and beer were left empty much of the time. It was kinda weird. Overall our experience was excellent although we did leave thirsty.
Enjoyed a dinner with friends before Early Elton Show At Levon Helm Barn. Food was wonderful as was the staff and unique setting. Would go back again if visiting Woodstock.
The menu had a few items in each category that were very well prepared. The fried chicken alone was worth the trip.
Great spot for dinner before going to show at Levon Helm's studio.
On a night when the place was accidentally short-staffed and experienced an influx of late reservations, the high quality of the food never waivered and the staff operated under duress with determination and concern for their patrons. It was a situation where restaurants can fall apart for the night but that did not happen at all. Will definitely return whenever visiting Woodstock.
It is so cozy there and we love sitting at the bar for a light dinner and a drink. We feel so welcome every time we visit A & P.
We had a great time, food was very good, and the service was fantastic!! Must try.
A&P Bar is a nice place to eat but it is more a bar than a restaurant. Our waitress was very friendly and graces even though she was handling several positions at one time. She even put a candle in my wife’s Crème Bleu for her birthday. The food was very good, well presented and tasted delicious. We would come back for lunch.
The menu in the restaurant is different than on their website, which was disappointing. There isn't much variety.
Place was lovely and the food was very good. But the bartender was weak on his pour and for the cost of a mixed drink and martini you would expect a fill to the top. Drink beer
Nice atmosphere. Food was good--had the salmon dish and people I was with had burgers and fries which they also thought were good. My only complaint was the service was very slow. We were there for over two hours and the restaurant wasn't crowded. It seemed that restaurant was understaffed that night.
Service was excellent the food superb. It was our first time in Woodstock - we will definitely be going back to A & P!
Drove up from New Paltz to have dinner with family who were here for a show at The Barn.
Good food with a menu that made everyone in our party of five happy. Friendly service.
Great unique drinks - Lazy Afternoon Cocktail, yummy cosmo made with Cointreau, Grass Fed Burger cooked perfectly medium rare with Gruyere cheese and mushrooms. Chocolate Pots de Creme dessert was amazing! Was the perfect spot for me pre-Levon Helm Studio show dinner. Sat at bar and Billy was the bartender. Never saw a bartender work so hard making so many unique drinks! Special place to go!
Food and service were lacking but overall good vibes and great Mocktails. Will come again and sit in the bar to try a real drink. Their house made ginger beer was delish.
We always enjoy the food and beverage choices at A&P!!
The food was spectacular. The ladies had the salmon on sweet potato and the guys had the mussels in thai peanut sauce with shrimp added. This was superb. Love the place. The server was sweet but could have been more attentive. We asked for water with lemon more than once. The thai dish had uncleaned shrimp so requires some work on the diners part. No problem here but that comes with a messy experience that requires extra napkins or wet ones of which we had to request this. Plus, the dish had shellfish and we had to request a bowl to place the waste. Would definitely go back
Great cocktails. Great menu. Menu was simple, not too many things but great to be able to try a whole bunch of items.
Stopped by enroute to a concert, for a dinner/drinks. Limited menu, but the food was good, although pricey. The craft cocktails were amazing!
Love A&P bar! We were in Woodstock once before and ate here. Loved it so much we had to come back on our second visit. Great cocktails, friendly service. Goat cheese parsley fries are to die for. Will definitely come back.
The power went out due to a heavy storm and it was no problem at all. We enjoyed the rest of our meal by candlelight, they gave us complimentary dessert, and we even played a game of scrabble. So much fun!
We were excited to try A and P and were disappointed. I really wanted to love it and I didn’t. Everything felt “off” - the menu was hard to make sense of and didn’t really hang together, the service was friendly but a little disjointed, and the food was fine without being at all memorable, and was poorly presented. (Also, the home made ice cream was not fresh and had crystallized). It’s a shame. I would suggest taking a very hard look at the menu and working out what you stand for food-wise, then deliver on it. The potential is there...
Walking distance of Woodstock Play House. Met at 5 pm, quiet at that time. Enjoyed a drink and German version of pizza. Will definitely go back.
We love this place, and want it to find a following. A&P is off the main drag in Woodstock, at the back of a bank building, so it suffers because people aren't discovering it. They should! The food is excellent and creative -- try their German take on pizza for the table, a delicious way to start a meal, as are the fries with goat cheese. Their burgers are tasty as well. But the real star is the bartender, who is an artist. He makes his own tonic, and mixes a gin and tonic that rivals what we had in Barcelona. His homemade ginger beer is a treat, and we've had some wonderful bourbon cocktails. Highly recommended.
