94th Aero Squadron - Van Nuys Ratings and Reviews
It was our first time and nobody helped us. But I enjoyed it with my little toddler even though we only ate apple and water melon and they charged us 64 bucks. I think it's too pricey for brunch. I wasn't aware. Nobody even seated us. Just the front lady told us to sit wherever we like. But the place and ambiance is great.
My husband is a WWII Veteran and had worked for a major airline for over 42 years so the décor, inside and out, is nostalgic and fantastic. Nicole and her team were the best including the drinks from the bar. And with the energy of being right next to Van Nuys Airport, the occasional smell of jet fuel is perfect, plus the take-off and landings of private aircraft is so fun. I've also attended several of your Dinner and Movie evenings and enjoy them very much.
94th Aero Squadron is very dated, old, and tired. The Sunday brunch was very good, with a wide selection, a carver, and omelette/pasta station, with fabulous desserts. For this, I would recommend the restaurant. The dining areas, however, are in dire need of renovating and upgrading. The entrance presents well with the ivy and cannons and plane; but it needs more vintage memorabilia and ambience too.
Haven't been to the Aero Squadron in many years and probably don't need to go back for many more. Seating was pleasant enough inside, but my guest insisted on eating outside, next to the runways of the Van Nuys Airport. Watching the planes take off and land was interesting enough, but the engine noise drowned out any and all conversation. Even more irritating was wine service. Keep it simple was my thought. So a bottle of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay was ordered. Shortly there after we were advised it was warm so a bottle had been put into the freezer. Um, no thanks we said. How about this bottle of pinot noir? Shortly thereafter we were advised it was not in stock, but another Pinot Noir was offered. We drank it and it was perfectly satisfactory, except it was $10 more than the original bottle ordered. And we didn't find this out until the bill arrived. It would have been good to have been told this at the time the wine was proffered. So even though the fish and chips and turkey sandwhich were good enough, there's no reason for me to return to the Aero Squadron any time soon.
My husband and I went for a date night out and came here to have dinner. Overall everything were great. The food, cocktail drinks and of course our server Vanessa. Can't complain and we'll definitely come back and even refer the place to our family and friends.
This unique restaurant has been open for decades. Great atmosphere and a fun location right on the runway of the Van Nuys airport.
Attentive and professional service combined with excellent food made for another fun dining experience. We were even given some lettuce to feed to the ducks right outside of the restaurant. Background music is in sinc with the era on which the restaurant is based.
Definitely coming back again.
Restroom was disgusting and toilet wouldn't flush. Also I told the hostess and our server that it was a celebration for my mother's 93rd birthday and they did nothing. Had to order desert to get her a 'birthday desert'. No other servers came over to make it special for her. I was very disappointed.
We enjoyed our brunch here on Sunday. Food was good and there's a lot of it, so I didn't get a chance to try it all. They have a Mexican food station with menudo, cheese enchies, beef for tacos and different salsas. The carving station offered beef, ham, and turkey. There was mashed potatoes but no gravy, so I left the turkey alone. Get some good gravy, guys! Salads, hot dishes, chicken , veggies and other items rounded out the buffet. An egg station offered any dish made to order (bennies were only so-so), and a make your own slider bar. The mini patties looked hard and dry as did the buns. All in all, for $39.95 with champagne, it's a deal. Free parking and interesting decor, too.
I called to make a reservation and plans for the birthday gal. There was a communication error and not sure how it occurred but another friend found that out (luckily prior to the birthday brunch) and I called back and spoke with Shawna. First, let’s start with the fact that Shawna could not have been more lovely, eager to accommodate and doing whatever she could to remedy the situation!! She asked if I could call her Manager Kelly as she would connect with Kelly and then see if Kelly could work some magic regarding the glitch. When I spoke to Kelly, not only was she just as fabulous as Shawna, she did know of the situation. To add to the course of great communication…Shawna came into her office and they spoke again about it with me on the phone so that it would be feasible to have the great birthday brunch experience that I was looking forward to as a beautiful birthday gathering for our friend. Once Kelly confirmed everything she and Shawna conveyed that they were not working that Sunday but the notes would be in the computer. I called that morning and spoke with Alvino and sure enough he had all the info right there. When I arrived early (prior to the birthday girl and guests) I was reassured by Leslie and Irene. They also made sure I met our great server Sean who made all feel welcome, explained how to navigate all food stations, brought out a dessert/candle for the birthday girl and made certain no check was to come to the table.
It's one thing to make plans and glitches can/do occur…however; it’s another when there’s a most expeditious recovery along with above & beyond service as well as being so thoughtful and accommodating. Not-too-mention the great atmosphere of this historic restaurant, the beautiful/delicious brunch buffet. The attentive service by Sean and up @ front Alvino, Irene and Leslie. It’s not often that you find a team that is so compassionate, helpful, caring, professional, accommodating and all under one roof. 😊
Always liked this place, mainly for brunch, and occasionally for lunch or dinner. Service is outstanding and rest of staff attentive. And nobody makes you feel rushed for another seating.
Our guy Rob was great (will ask for his station next time). Irene, Roxanne were great as host(ess). Chef Jesus took time to say hello. And must acknowledge Ediberto (omelet bar) and Eliseo and Olga at the carving station.
Glad we were almost leaving as 2 tables away a group of 6 had too many mimosas and made sure the rest of the restaurant could hear them. But let's say they were having a great time!
Will be back soon!
We went here for the first time this last Sunday for their brunch. We had a nice table with a view of the landing field. The service was adequate but lagged at some points. We enjoyed the bottomless mimosas. The best items on the menu were the eggs benedict, the osso bucco, the waffles, mac and cheese, taco bar. The crab legs were so so and a bit disappointing. Enjoyable dessert selections including bananas foster over ice cream. Overall I'd give the whole experience a solid B grade. Nothing great, but all around good. Very unique environment; perfect for an aviation buff.
The place has an unusual ambiance which is like a French house during the war with military parafernalia. The Sunday brunch is spread out through the entire place. Food is mediocre quality. There are better brunches for $39.95. The service was mon existent. .. even after we mentioned that to management.
It's right along side of the airport so it is possible to watch small planes take off and land.
The service was beyond fantastic! The food for the buffet was excellent which for most restaurants is not! Hand carved prime rib. Omelette bar fresh eggs bendingadequate to order crab sushi fruit I could go on and on but everyrhing was excellent. Whoever took over as manager and whipped this place in shape deserves a big raise haha. We will defiantly be back!
Well, It had been many years since I had been here, but after this experience, I won't be back any time soon, sat outside, felt neglected, waitress was too busy with her inside tables, and the kitchen couldn't cook a steak, when is medium rare delivered as raw, and on the second attempt, it was almost well done......sad for a place that markets itself as upscale
Our family has dined with 94th. Aero Squadron for more than 40 years and never been disappointed, until the cooked lunches disappeared from the daytime menu. Why?
To save a few dollars on lunchtime meals?
All of a sudden our good friend, Manager JACK has been relocated to
Thousand Oaks(?? our Server guessed when asked-----so let us know where Jack is now.
We'll follow him to his new location.
I've met new G.M. Paige(?) only once, but I think he turned lunch into an exclusive Sandwich place and eliminated cooked lunches so now we only attend on evenings when we can still order cooked meals. Please bring back the tasty Lunches, Mr. Paige. Lee Grant, Esq.
