94th Aero Squadron - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
Went for the Valentines Day Special...Great service. Waiter was pleasant and quick. Love the decor. Food was actually a bit better than I expected. The price for the V-Day special was very reasonable and I left the place with a full stomach. The only negative was the little field mouse that kept peeking its head through the double door that lead to the outdoor patio. That sort of soured the mood just a wee bit. I know the place is located near an open field and all kinds of critters can make there way out of the field, but maybe something could be placed along the edges to deter this (something along the line of a silent dog whistle or so). It wasn't all bad though and was sort of comical when all said and done. But overall the experience was great. In fact I actually plan on returning to the place and even bringing friends with me in the future. The place was actually very clean and well kept. It was dark outside when we arrived so I couldn't really get a great sense of what the view would be in day light hours. Maybe next time I'll dine a little bit earlier. Comes recommended...You will enjoy yourself and the food! 3.75 stars out of 5
Went with friends for our anniversary.
Attentive service and comfortable French farmhouse ambiance. The Bibb salad and clam chowder were excellent, but the chicken roulade, my usual favorite, was lacking in flavor, an another diner’s stuffed mushroom’s were described as chewy and oily. These were a departure from their usually tasty dishes. We will likely go back based on our prior experiences, and hope we are not disappointed
The 49th Aero Squadron Restaurant is a funky place with a decor of WW1 airplanes, next to a small plane airport. It's a bit on the expensive side, but the food is great and the service likewise. This time we had a great waitress with a good sense of balance and humor. We were treating another couple, with a birthday for one of them, and had a wonderful evening. Three of us had the filet mignon with Bernaise sauce, and we finished with creme brulee with raspberries. Great evening!
It was quite slow the evening we were there, so can't really judge what the place is like when busy. The food was very good and the prices quite reasonable. Must say, the NY Strip steak I had was better than the last one I had a Ruth's Chris. Service was good. It was evening, so the airport was quiet, but we did get to watch a couple helicopters come in. Overall, a nice place for dinner and will go again.
Arrived early, party of 6-was not invited to wait in bar. Left standing around till I asked host of wait time-5 minutes he says, table is being cleaned up. Asked if there was somewhere to get a cocktail-other hostess directs us to bar and says she will be right back to get us. It is now 20+ minutes later and we are finally seated. Lack of service-waiter took so long to take our food order, take drink orders, etc. Busboy lacking to refill waters. Food took sooo long and it was just slapped onto plate and sprinkled with parsley. Poor presentation and quality for price-even for restaurant week. Au jus was not given with prime rib. Had to ask for that. It was just lame-not returning.
Excellent venue for family or friends. The historic feel and welcoming staff made a good experience for the whole family. Overall, the food was quite tasty with plenty of choices for various tastes. Both indoor and outdoor seating provide a comfortable and inviting environment.
Overall, nice experience.
Watch out when you order a sizzling steak.
It can come on a hot metal platter, set in a wood frame.
My date touched the hot metal and was burned.
We notified our server, she offered some burn ointment.
Kinda a plus and minus, but the food was very good.
The burn was minor, and we’ll still eat again there soon.
Welllllll we went here for restaurant week and the value was great! The waiter was nice and the onion soup very good! We waited almost 25 minutes for our entree after the soup! When it arrived my husbands Prime Rib was a End cut and not medium rare like he ordered!! My short ribs were okay but mashed potatoes were almost cold!! Too bad cool place to go! We went early also at 5:15 so busy but not packed!!
I love the 94 Aero, they have great food and usually great customer service, but not that night. I know it was busy but our server seemed frustrated and impatient. We have worked in the service industry so we know how crazy it can get but you still have to deliver great customer service. At one point, she was waiting to take the food order from the teenager and he didn't answer right away, she just walked off, instead of saying I'll be right back. There were little comments I don't think she knew I could hear, but I did. Like I said food was great, but the lack of customer service ruined the experience.
Came here for my mother in law's birthday and it just happened to be restaurant week. We all ordered from the SDRW menu although they have a great early-dinner deal and their regular menu is great overall. Service was quick and our server Steve was very helpful. Loved our dining experience and would recommend this place to everyone.
Loved the ambience and decor of this charming restaurant and the service was very nice. I especially liked that the hostess when seating us rotated the outside chairs away from the window seats so we could sit easily to sit. The onion soup was delicious and the food/dinner was nicely prepared but just 'good'. Was hoping for just a bit better with such a cute place but had a nice evening. Felt like we had traveled to another time was so cute there.
Arrived at 12:15 for a 12:30 Sunday brunch reservation. We were seated right away with no problem. Got in line for the buffet just to find everything half empty and lukewarm at best. The omelette station and pasta station were good because they were made to order. The rolls were stale and nothing was replaced in the hour fifteen minutes we were there. Did not think that was a good sign since the brunch runs until 2:00 pm.
The desert table was so sloppy looking and picked over it did not even look appetizing. All in all I would not go back for the $32 price tag.
Was a very good experience dining here again for Sunday Brunch/Lunch. It had been several years since I was there brunch. It is always crowded to the max so it behooves you to make a reservation. You will most likely still have to wait past your reservation time though. Parking is always tight here but the owner/manager came out and showed us we could park in the Health and Human Services parking lot. The waitstaff - Kelly - was very good and polite. The chef's on the grill were also nice and polite. The only thing I saw that was a bit eh was the guy who was putting out crab legs - he did not care if he was overfilling the space and that valuable food was falling to the floor. It was shameful how he consistently just packed it on and walked away. Other than those small things, it was great. Love that they have bottomless champaign here.
I went here a few times years ago, I always thought the decor theme was charming and liked the outside area in the back, it is nice area to take photos with your guests. At this visit the brunch buffet food was good and all the dessert selections looked delicious. I liked the unlimited champagne/sparkling cider and our server was very pleasant and attentive. I feel there could be more salad topping offerings and was disappointed that the crepe station did not make fresh crepes, they just warmed up a pre-made crepe. But I was surprised at the noise level, I know Sunday brunch is very popular and busy, but I don't remember it being so loud in the restaurant before. Maybe it was because the football playoff game was on the TV? But at this visit it would be difficult to converse with anyone at your table unless they were right next to you.
It had been awhile since I dined at the 94th.
The service was exceptional. The ambience was lovely.
The food was another story.
The fettuccine was sticky, but the real disappointment was that the shrimp and especially the scallops were over cooked.
It was my new boyfriend’s birthday.
He didn’t finish his meal.
I was embarrassed.
