For over 40 years, one of San Diego's landmark dining destinations and one of the most unique and memorable restaurants you will ever find. It had been awhile since I dined at the 94th.
The service was exceptional. The ambience was lovely.
The food was another story.
The fettuccine was sticky, but the real disappointment was that the shrimp and especially the scallops were over cooked.
It was my new boyfriend’s birthday.
He didn’t finish his meal.
I was embarrassed.
Food was less in quality than in past. I would rate it at the lowest end of the CASINO BUFFET SCALE. Very few choices and the choices to be had were of lower quality. Value wise it would be better to go to a casino for brunch or try another place. Seriously overpriced for what you are offered. If you offer less and charge a higher price, then you should offer higher quality, Right? I don't mind paying, but expected higher quality for the prices charged. Started going here over 20 years ago, and this was definitely my last visit.
I had not been to 94th Aero Squadron in years--and we decided to take our family here when we visited San Diego. I was really disappointed that it's not the same as we remember. The service was extremely slow for dinner, especially when the restaurant was not that busy. We had to keep asking our server (whenever they rarely walked by) to refill our water glasses, take our order, ask for dessert, as for the bill, etc. The soups were salty and the rest of the meals were overpriced. The only thing that I was pleased with was that they offer a military discount. I do hope that the restaurant is able to improve their food and service--I hate to see such a gem of a restaurant go downhill.
We had been here before but not for a few years. We had really enjoyed it. This time the buffet tables were all cramped together. The line to get anything was long. The service was terrible. No one took our dirty plates. Then I finally got the plates taken and we were not given clean silverware. I got some dessert and had to hunt down my own fork at the bus station. We will not return
Service was good an the food was excellent. The prime rib melted in our mouths. French onion soup was the best I’ve had. Dinner prices were $$$ but they have early bird specials that looked good. Wine prices were about normal for a nice resturant. It’s definitely worth a visit.
We lived in San Diego for 25 years, and had heard of 94th Aero, but both advertising and experiences of friends were very sparse. We tried it the night before surgery at Sharp Memorial (we have lived 50 miles north of there for ten years now), and realized we had missed many nice meals. We will patronize 94th in the future when we are in the area.
After having a HORRIBLE family Thanksgiving dinner last year at the 94th Aero Squadron, we were asked to return for their Sunday Brunch to give them an opportunity to redeem themselves. This experience was also horrible. We had to ask FOUR different times before we were even given water. The food was overcooked, dry, and completely lacking in flavor. The only good thing that we ate was the carrot cake. We paid a ridiculous price for the HORRIBLE Thanksgiving meal, the Sunday Brunch is $33.95. WAY too much money for such a poorly prepared offering of food.
This is our latest visit to this store. Food was well prepared and service was very good. This was a quiet evening so it was a very pleasant experience. Prime Rib is their best dish and recommended. Avoid the weekend buffet as the hot food is still not kept hot. Also avoid any holidays as they have same problems with keeping the food hot.
Visited for Sunday brunch. They offer a fair selection for what you pay for, however the quality isn't the best. My issue isn't with the food as much as with the service or lack there of.
Made a reservation online and check in seemed a bit chaotic without any direction and people huddled in the lobby confused. After some guest got sorted out I was able to check in and seating was seated promptly. I was satisfied with the time of seating after check in.
Our host lead us to a table that wasn't set and missing silverware, glassware and even chairs. I didn't understand why they didn't sit us at one of the surrounding tables that were already set. The host simply took one of the chairs from a surrounding table and after noticing the place settings were missing we had to gather our own setting.
After seating we weren't checked in. No beverages were offered or an explanation of the process at the restaurant. I actually had to get up and go to a station and gather some glassware and pour water for the table. A waitress did eventually arrive about 5-10 min later but checked in on a table that was seated after us. That table got service but we were simply ignored. After we brought it up to her attention we were offered drinks but service lacked. Our drinks always ran low and was frustrating having to wait long periods of time for certain request.
I would not be returning back to this restaurant and would recommend paying a higher price for better quality and service.
It was a last minute decision to go to the 94th Aero Squadron. This was for my birthday and we originally planned to go to the Queen Mary Sunday Champagne Brunch, even though the ride is long to get there 2 1/2 hrs. However, traffic alerts prevented going. So then we thought the Hotel Del, didn't care for the price or the menu. We had a bad previous visit to the 94th Aero Squadron (20 years ago, not due to the food) and they had always been off the list of places to go. However, we decided to give it another try. The food was well displayed, and delicious. There was a decent available options to choose from and I had tried just about everything. The Omelet was well made and obviously fresh. The desert options were several, although I would like to see more diversity than different cakes. I tried 2 different cake slices and enjoyed them as did my husband enjoy the carrot cake and lemon meringue pie. Also, we booked the reservation just 2 hours prior to our time and there was no problem when we checked in. When we received the bill, we found out that there was an early bird price, so for 3 people we spent less than for 1 person at the Hotel Del. Definitely would recommend, the food is good, the atmosphere is wonderful. The Maître D, was friendly and genuine. Our server Joshua was readily available and eager to please. Definitely will be going back another time, and encourage local friends to go as well.
It was a great spot for the kick-off dinner for my Susan G. Komen 3-Day Team. The food and drinks were good and the staff was exceptionally accommodating in finding us a table where we were able to talk without interruption by a screaming child. Also, our waiter was great!
We took the in-laws here for lunch when they were in town and all of the adults had the lunch buffet which was quite good and we thought it was a pretty good value. Had I been thinking clearly, I would've asked if they offered the buffet at a kids' meal pricing for younger diners, as our 3YO probably would've enjoyed it as much or more than the actual kids' meal since it had several foods she really enjoys. Next time!
We are from Orange County but heard from a friend who had been there once that this was a great place to go, so we made the 2-hour drive to San Diego and it was well worth it. We arrived just as they were opening at 11 so there was no crowd. We enjoyed walking around the grounds, looking at all the WW I memorabilia, planes, etc and taking lots of pictures. We could not believe the reasonable price for a wonderful lunch buffet with a carving station - beef, ham, turkey, as well as DELICIOUS meat lasagna, chicken enchiladas, salads, a wide variety of fruit and dessert. We heard the Sunday buffet is really excellent so we'll definitely go back and will highly recommend it.
Our server Zack was great, food always great, the creamed corn is amazing.
We went on a hot evening and the ac could either not combat it or they did not want to cool the restaurant down. Only thing bad there. Overall one of my favorite restaurants. It is beside a local airport so you can watch small aircraft coming and going, they even have headsets where you can listen to the tower.
The waitress was overwhelmed, plates were left uncleared for a long period of time, champagne was filled at a very slow pace, she mentioned having other tables outside and causing her to be delayed. At the end she made it very ackward when you reviewed the check/bill in front of us. My out of town guests and I got the impression she was reviewing the tip amount. My suggestion get more staff and teach the servers to review the check away from the customers.
