My family and I went to this restaurant for the first time to celebrate my birthday. We went on a Monday, which meant that it wasn't too busy. I've seen a good handful of reviews that complain about the service (reservations not being ready, bad service, etc.) but we experienced none of that. Perhaps on the weekends the restaurant is more difficult to visit, but a Monday night proved to be a great day to go. The setting is very classy and fancy, and the food was well-prepared. I would definitely go back, on the condition that it is not a crowded weekend night.
Great view. Food is excellent and the drinks amazing. Our server was excellent , very engaging. We were greeted by each staff member with a smile and they went the extra mile to assure we had a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend this establishment
I don’t understand they hype with this place. The only thing that was worthwhile was the ambiance. It’s a lovely rooftop space. The staff while friendly was not the best. The food was abysmal- at extraordinary prices. The kale/spinach dip was rich and plentiful while the sparse chips were oily and soggy. I can’t decide if they were old or the cook did not know how to fry them. Crisp was not a word I would use for them. When we asked foe more chips to finish the 2/3 left our waitress said-ummm I’ll have to see if we can do that. ?!? Same problem with the tortillas for the Mahi Mahi tacos- which otherwise were tasty but a bit fishy. The pizza and watermelon salad were so ordinary I have nothing else to add. The large portion of 3 chicken sliders were a tasty standout. This is clearly a place to get plowed at with enough food to keep people from causing trouble. If that’s you’re thing. It’s great. I’f you’re looking for good food. Keep looking
Food was excellent and service was friendly. Great selection of rare whiskey, but beware insane markups. No printed list of bourbon offerings and prices makes selecting difficult.
We had reservations for 10:30 which we made online which they let us via online portal. We got there early that was totally fine to wait for the 20 mins we asked if we could just hang out at the bar where there were 2 people seated we were told no the bartender “was not ready”. I understand a busy night, needing to decompress or not being overwhelmed completely okay. However, when we sat down at 10:35 we were not asked for our drink order or brought waters until 10:50 when our waitress informed us that the bar was going to be closing at 11pm which okay that’s fine we understand service industry and Covid messing up a lot of hours. We quickly ordered our drinks then asked for our tab because we were under the impression the bar was closing at 11. Then after closing out, quickly finishing our drinks thinking they were done at 11 we noticed at 11:05 people were still being sat and having no problems getting drinks. On our way out we also noticed about 12 people at the bar with drinks no problem when we were previously told we were not able to do so and having to wait in the lobby with no sitting area. The staff were obviously ran thin and needing better management as far as communication especially amongst all customers. I’ve been a frequent patron at 8up and 5 years in the service industry but I’ve never been so unsatisfied with this service especially on my birthday weekend. I hope they can get this together because it’s a beautiful scenery and I don’t want to see Covid having such a negative impact on a place like this.
The service, food and atmosphere were phenomenal!
We specifically went here for the roof top and it was under construction. No notification online or heads up from management when we made our reservation.
The server Matt was wonderful but the ambiance was that of an empty middle school cafeteria. Would not recommend.
Did not realize there was only bar food now, no entrees. We had four different items and they ranged from mediocre to good. (Cocktails were excellent, however). Building is starting to look “tired” - could use some updates and a good cleaning. Parking not validated. Overall, disappointing.
Service was very slow, no drinks served on patio, and food was mediocre at best. Bartender was rude.
Service was great but I can’t say the same for their food. The mahi mahi tacos were disappointing. The shells were stale and soggy. Shrimp dippers were okay, not worth the price though. Drinks were just okay, nothing special.
Everything was great, just wish there was a little more selection in this limited menu
This was a great experience. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
Finally we found great pizza. The best margarita pizza in all of Louisville! Thin crust with olive oil, fresh mozzarella, sliced cherry tomatoes, and cut basil sprinkled all over; I'm getting excited thinking about it!
Fries were also very tasty with sea salt and rosemary.
Drinks were tasty. We had Old Fashions, Miracle on 4th and their Pinot Grigio.
Sebastian was super nice and accommodating. Our server Kimberly(?) was okay. Didn't introduce herself, or check on us as often as needed, and didn't recommend appetizers or desserts. Plainly took our orders and dropped off the check. We wanted another round of drinks with a dessert but ultimately paid since she did that. The runners/bussers didn't seem to have any personality but were helpful.
Overall we'd visit again because the food and atmosphere were excellent.
we had a mothers day meal planned here. our reservation was canceled last minute, then accommodated. once there, the staff and kitchen were underprepared. they told us how bad of a day it was and to bear with them... it was a very bad experience. then, when it was time for our checks we were told they couldnt even split up our checks and one person would need to pay for the entire party...
Mother’s Day was a great experience. The breakfast potatoes were amazing. All my food came out hot and fresh.
Food was nothing special and Pricey. The shrimp dippers were very odd....basically an egg roll on a stick? The drinks we're good but we were placed in a room that appeared to be getting prepped for a larger party. So most of our dinner was filled with loud moving furniture. The front desk was very nice and apologetic but it was very disruptive since we were there to celebrate our graduation. Overall it was a lot of money for a poor experience. Will not be back.
Slow service. Expensive. No bar service. Would not sit until entire party arrived. Would not recommend.
For being a “fine dining” lounge, this was less than mediocre. Very disappointed in the food, drinks and service. Extremely different experience from last time we went there a couple of years ago. Wouldn’t recommend going if you’re looking for a nice place to eat and drink. Spend your money somewhere else.
Our initial contact was with a hostess who oddly seemed to take our presence as an intrusion. The first waiter who came to our table never came back and for the rest of the night, we had to flag down a waiter when and where we could. Beyond that, the food was really good. We went on the "Thunder over Louisville" night so we were able to watch the fireworks which was a pleasant bonus. The bourbon was good, but a little pricey for me.
The reservation experience with OpenTable was great and we were given exactly what we wanted as far as table type, location and time. Unfortunately, 8UP restaurant is still in the process of bringing their staffing and business model back up to 100%. Large areas of the restaurant and rooftop patio area remain closed minimizing the amenities that are open. Also, the menu is scaled back for lower volume of seated occupancy and kitchen traffic. We tried multiple items off the menu for our table, most of which were great. The wings, which we have had before on the rooftop, were not good at all. Other items, such as the duck tacos, deviled eggs, burger and flat breads were great.
The music was very loud and difficult to speak over at some points in the evening. I believe this was realized and adjusted by management after a short time.
Although I do recommend this restaurant for the experience and ambiance, I must admit it is not the experience we are used to at 8UP. I am eager to see them return to their former level of service as KY relaxes restaurant restrictions and allows capacity (and staffing) to increase. We will dine here again!
The host was so accommodating when we asked to move inside from outside as it was a bit chilly. Server was very helpful when recommending drinks and food choices. Great experience!
Amazing food, service and atmosphere.
The whole city is struggling with service and this place especially
Waitress was terrible and very very rude.
Very limited menu
Not welcoming at all
Several attempts to confirm reservation with manager due to special occasion and zero call backs.
Would not go here again. Still left 20% because I used to be a server but was completely let down by this place.
Service was fantastic! Food was excellent - especially the brussel sprouts! Music was a bit louder than necessary, but didn't negatively impact our experience. Will definitely be back!
Our server was great. Drinks were good. We ordered the pineapple upside down cake that was terrible and the french vanilla cheesecake taste like it came out of a box but was okay. When back in town will probably go back for drinks and the ambiance.
Showed up 15 minutes early for our reservation. Waited 30 minutes to get a table. Then after 40 minutes at an empty table we went to the host and asked when we would be waited on. They apologized and offered to comp the appetizer. Then they didn't actually comp the appetizer. I was highly displeased as this was my wedding anniversary.
Waitress was a little preoccupied with other tables, had to ask for water on several occasions
Hamburger was ordered medium but came out rare. Chicken sliders didn’t come until everyone else was done eating.
Wonderful time! Very few food choices. Possibly due to COVID 19. Awaiting my next visit!
We really enjoyed ourselves my mom especially it was her 50th birthday and we will be back
Limited menu but nice atmosphere and the server was nice.
Made a reservation and was told upon arrival there would be a 30 minute wait if we wanted to sit inside and a 15 min wait to sit outside in the 40 degree weather. Luckily we were able to grab a ($20) cocktail at the bar during our wait. 35 minutes later we were sat in the corner and forgotten about. We waited another 30 minutes and decided to take our business elsewhere. Don’t bother waisting your time here!
#Louisvillerestaurantweek! Such a great deal! This was a delayed birthday dinner for my mom and we enjoyed every bit! Earlier in the week, I sent mom the menus of all the restaurants participating and she said she wanted shrimp and grits. 8 Up it is. There was so much food! I could have made a dinner out of the Brussels sprouts appetizer! We basically shared one meal and she took the other home, the shrimp was perfectly cooked with the grits and the bourbon, pineapple upside down cake was the perfect ending. I wish we had walked out on the rooftop earlier... the heaters and table fireplaces would have been plenty warm enough for us to enjoy our evening on the rooftop. Don’t be afraid... even in the 50’s with a nice sweater, we would have been very comfortable!
Our server was great! She was attentive, helpful, and accommodating. The ambiance was great as always. Love the atmosphere. Cocktails were delicious but a little over priced in my opinion. We did the restaurant week meal deal and while only $36 for 3 courses, we felt it was a mistake for both of us to do it. The appetizer of Brussel sprouts, while good, was way too large of a portion for 1 person and with it being our only option for the app, it was way too much having two servings. We felt the same about dessert. A whole dessert basically went to waste and because it was covered in ice cream so we couldn’t bring it home. For the entree, I felt the portion was good and the shrimp were delicious but the grits were grainy and lacked in flavor. There was also way too much grits to shrimp. For $36 the amount of food you got was a great deal but for $72 for two people to eat identical meals, it was regretful. Overall I would come back but probably not for restaurant week.
Disappointed to learn the bar did not have access to Big Ten Network for Men's Basketball games upon arrival. Returned for ACC match-up but did not have great TV screen view. The Bacon Cheeseburger, Brussel Sprouts, and Parmesan Fries were decadent and helped assuage our NCAA withdrawal.
Made reservations for 10pm arrived to find out our reservation he been giving to Wasn’t seated till 1035 orders appetizers the chicken was old never received our full appetizer order before they told us the kitchen was close we couldn’t place our order
The decor is contemporary with spacious dining area,The Food was delicious and service was great.
The female hostess was awful and non attentive and kept the black crowds waiting 30 minutes or longer past their reservation time without any communication. I had to continuously ask her what the hold was as she seated others who came in way past their reservation time ( I asked the patrons of their times). The manager kept walking by not saying anything about the issue, once finally seated it took forever for the waiter to even take our drink orders. The food took FOREVER!!!! for no reason because it was not a crowded night AT ALL! I got there at 830 and didn't go up until 850 for my 9:00 reservation, hostess continuously said wait because it was still a few minutes until 9, 9:00 still not seated, 9:15 she still said wait, 9:30 she still said wait! We get seated mind you just a party of two, we get seated at 9:47 and didn't get drinks until 10:00 PM and food at 10:32 PM. The menu was so little and so subpart it was ridiculous and not everyone eats duck or duck fat! All we were stuck to order with was burgers and fries unfortunately. I could've stayed home and made that. The soda was flat with no fizz in it, the wine was dry and super bitter. The worst!!!!!! First time EVER!!!!!!!! Never again will I go back nor recommend this travesty to anyone!!!!
They were completely out of the 3 main dishes.Brussels sprouts were great! Pizzas were meh! Salads were not even an option. I will not be back
