Very nice staff. Limited menu due to Covid but I am sure the full menu is good. Felt at home and service was quick and with a smile....
Food was great and the service was outstanding! Can’t say enough good things about our server.
Once again this restaurant went above and beyond with their service! We had to switch the number of people in our party numerous times. They accommodated us without hesitation each time. Our waiter, Michael, was truly outstanding! Very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable of the drinks and specials! We had a party of nine and his service Was impeccable!Highly recommend this restaurant for the atmosphere, food and Especially the service!
This restaurant is phenomenal!! They were very patient in ensuring I had a spot after my event ran over and I was over my fifteen minute grace period. I asked for an outside location and it was granted. One of the spots the hostess had picked was near some loud individuals and I was ready to tell her “no thanks!” I think she saw the look on face, and located a spot that I requested on the app. It’s important to read requests and grant them, if you can. Our server Bo was great, although we would have to raise our hand or ask another server to locate him. He was busy. We already knew since we were arriving late, the cooks were probably tired, but the food taste and service should be consistent. I ordered the chicken sliders and thought I cracked my tooth. They were fried too hard and in old grease. Bo picked up on the fact that I had eaten one. I told him what happened, but said I wouldn’t make a big fuss. The pizza was delicious, and my husbands burger was one of the best I’ve tasted. The queso was not desirable, as if it came out of a can. It was cold, and the second time around, there was no change. We told our server to heat it, and after that it was perfect. That was taken off our bill. I loved dining by the fire pit and the rooftop was lovely. I will come back, but it will be before closing.
I would consider the experience to be wonderful! I ordered steak frites, French fries topped with a tender flank steak cut into thin strips. The entire flank steak was coated with a chimmichurri sauce. It was excellent!
The ambiance was great, the food was ok.
We left shortly after arriving. Hostess was very kind to us but we were not comfortable there. Outdoor was closed due to lack of employees (it also started raining). So we were indoor.
Not a mask in sight on any staff or customer with KY Governor Beshear recommending masking indoors for vaxxed & unvaxxed, KY over 13% positivity rate and Ky Hospitals reaching capacity.
Some 8UP staff had unkept appearances. And I saw the kitchen. I inspected commercial kitchens for 10 years. Not good. Kitchen staff also unmasked, no beard nets, poor hygiene, dirty clothes.
No notification that the outdoor area would be closed or they were serving a limited menu; 3 different menus appeared before our visit, one on the website online, one on google drive, one on open table. I have been here before but not recently. Things have changed and fortunately we were able to punt & go to another place for the birthday.
Not trying to hurt business at 8UP but also don’t want others to make my mistake until these issues are remedied and corrected. I understand staff shortages but communication re: the menu should be more clear. Most important- Staff cannot serve food with poor hygiene and unkept appearances. Someone will absolutely get food borne illness.
At the bottom of this review, as I write this, it says “8 up appreciates your honest feedback” and that is what this is.
I found this place in an article “Best restaurants in Louisville.” All was going well until the waitress gave another table our order. When the gentlemen told her the order was wrong, she picked up the plates and brought them to our table. She didn’t see anything wrong with this since “they didn’t touch the food.” When I refused to accept it she played the victim. No apology from her at all. When they supposedly prepared the meal for us again the sandwich was cold and the fries were colder.
So disappointed, save your money, time and evening. It is a beautiful patio. I really wanted to like it. But, the food was prettily prepared but overpriced for flank steak and French fries, we could get very little service, for refills, drinks, even water. And at every turn when we would have ordered more drinks or service, staff forgot us, waved us away and could or would not help. There was supposed to be a full menu but were informed it was bar only on arrival, and they advertised free valet, which was unmanned and we paid for that too. It made my romantic evening very unromantic indeed. Word to the wise don’t cash out your dining check if you want any patio service.
Went for our anniversary. We made a reservation about a week before. Got to the restaurant and was seated. Had great food, a bottle of champagne and our waiter was awesome. The hostess came out after we ordered a drink after we ate and was very accusatory about why we were sitting at a table that was reserved for guests that made a reservation. We told her we had a reservation she then came back at us asking who sat us there, and I replied. “You”. She then asked us who our waiter was and luckily he was coming up right behind her and told her he had been helping us and that we had been at his table the whole time. All 3 of us were confused by her questions. Sounds like the hostess wasn’t organized that night and took it out on us. So besides her rude tone of voice and accusing us of not being where we should be, the food, drinks and our waiter was awesome.
The food menu was limited and the restaurant turned into a night club. This should be advertised.
No great views like typical rooftops. Nice overall. Food was just ok. Our waitress was very friendly
I’ve been here before and enjoyed my experience, but this time I wasn’t pleased. The lack of menu items -especially for my vegetarian friend was disappointing. The person who brought out our food was rude as well.
We went here to celebrate our engagement and we felt as if we were at an airport bar. Little to no personal touches from the staff. We were rushed through our entire meal from start to finish. The only reason to come here is for the view and even that they couldn’t get right because we were seated in a back corner overlooking a parking garage. I must state we understand places being understaffed, but that was not the reason for our terrible experience. The restaurant wasn’t busy or even close to limited capacity. Go elsewhere if you can.
Great service and experience. I’d definitely go again. Thanks!
The environment was very cool but the food was very disappointing and so were the drinks. The drinks were expensive and completely iced down. They only had 2 servers and we made a reservation for outside, but when we got there we were told we were unable to sit outside.
Made reservations and waited roughly 30 min for anyone to even greet us.
The chef finally came out and helped us then we were seated. Our server was great for his work load.
Food was excellent. Had Shylnn as our server and she was great as well. Prompt and took care of us
They sat us promptly in a nice window seat - and then left us alone. No one came to take drink orders or talk to us or anything for about 20 minutes. Tried getting waiter attention to no avail. Left and no one talked to us or tried to stop us or anything. Could only see about 2 or 3 other tables with people at them, restaurant was mostly empty with 3 or 4 waiters visible. Not going back.
Inventive menu, wonderful ambiance, great service.
Staff was friendly. Restaurant was clean. Prices were decent.
Jackson was our server and he was amazing! So funny and such great service, especially for being busy and understaffed! Food was delicious and obviously the view was gorgeous. 10/10 would recommend! :)
The food is not good. Had a pizza margaritas that had no flavor. Wanted to order more but our server never came back to the table. We there over an hour and the server came once. We found her sitting down chatting at a table with other customers. The area is nice outside but will never go back.
The food was good, but not great. I went because I’d heard about the drinks and food. COVID affected the menu, but a few more options outside pizza would’ve been good. Service was excellent and the drinks are stout! 😊
Unfortunately attending this restaurant right after COVID restrictions were lifted hurt the typical ambience experience. Delicious food but limited choices and a very empty dinning room due to sparse crowds in Louisville. Waiter was fabulous throughout.
First time here. Rooftop ambiance was great. And the good ends there. Burgers weren’t just rare, they weren’t even cooked! Mahi mahi tacos were super bland and not worth $20. Server never brought silverware and never filled our waters - the basic necessities at a restaurant, right? We also got the burgers out 20 minutes before the pizza. This place has so much potential but I will NOT be back. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, and has for YEARS, I was thoroughly disappointed. Don’t waste your money.
Our server was terrible! She brought out drinks and didn’t come back for 30 mins! We weren’t even able to order dinner! The appetizers were not very flavorful. The rooftop was beautiful and the setting is great! Would definitely go back for drinks but not dinner
Place was empty yet difficult to get a reservation. Food was not good. I’m not sure how this place stays in business.
Great atmosphere & attentive service! Good food & cocktail choices.
I really enjoyed 8up! The food was pretty good and I loved the location and environment. I’ll be back again soon!
host was pretty rude to us about where we could and couldn’t seat and complained about her co workers as she was seating us.
I have visited 8 Up several times in the last 6 years. It use to be a highlight of my business travels. The luxury of staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, the building that the lounge is in, was a large plus The bar and its staff was something I told other people about. That is no longer true. The view is to die for. Now, the only appealing attribute. The wait staff had little experience or desire to stand out. I can buy Bourbon or a pizza several other places. The bar was limited on stock. Something I was told, all of Louisville is having a problem with, but also one of the main draws of the city and the bar. I use to be able to get a seat at the bar, when there were seats available. That was also not the case. There was no fine dinning experience, which is something you would expect with a reservation. If all of these issues are a result of Covid, then good luck. I also believe that a revolving management would also be the problem.
Our waitress Liz was great! Food was good not outstanding we got a pizza and the waygu burger,. But this place is all about the location and atmosphere which is Awesome!! Had a great time!!
The hostess is annoyed by everything. Only friendly until you ask to change something. Then she is very put out and can’t hide her annoyance. The server was awesome. The chef was awesome. The rooftop is fantastic. The value just ok. Giant bowl of fries with 4 strips of steak is $25
Pre-pandemic, you could get great — though pricey — cocktails with really great food at 8Up. Service has always been slow and less than stellar. Unfortunately, their cocktails and service has continued to decline. Food remains tasty (bravo! to the kitchen staff!)
It remains a great place to get food at times other restaurants downtown tend to be closed — still a plus.
My family and I went to this restaurant for the first time to celebrate my birthday. We went on a Monday, which meant that it wasn't too busy. I've seen a good handful of reviews that complain about the service (reservations not being ready, bad service, etc.) but we experienced none of that. Perhaps on the weekends the restaurant is more difficult to visit, but a Monday night proved to be a great day to go. The setting is very classy and fancy, and the food was well-prepared. I would definitely go back, on the condition that it is not a crowded weekend night.
Great view. Food is excellent and the drinks amazing. Our server was excellent , very engaging. We were greeted by each staff member with a smile and they went the extra mile to assure we had a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend this establishment
I don’t understand they hype with this place. The only thing that was worthwhile was the ambiance. It’s a lovely rooftop space. The staff while friendly was not the best. The food was abysmal- at extraordinary prices. The kale/spinach dip was rich and plentiful while the sparse chips were oily and soggy. I can’t decide if they were old or the cook did not know how to fry them. Crisp was not a word I would use for them. When we asked foe more chips to finish the 2/3 left our waitress said-ummm I’ll have to see if we can do that. ?!? Same problem with the tortillas for the Mahi Mahi tacos- which otherwise were tasty but a bit fishy. The pizza and watermelon salad were so ordinary I have nothing else to add. The large portion of 3 chicken sliders were a tasty standout. This is clearly a place to get plowed at with enough food to keep people from causing trouble. If that’s you’re thing. It’s great. I’f you’re looking for good food. Keep looking
