Great experience given the circumstances re coronavirus.
Wonderful place. The waiter was so helpful, and his suggestions (which we got) were exquisite. Everything we had was sublime. All the dishes had interesting textures and flavors. The portions were perfect. My date took note that they did not remove his plate while I (the lady) was still eating, which is a rare phenomenon nowadays but shows class.
I had the grain salad supplemented with char-grilled octopus. He had the heartier "Shaslik". We split the Tarama for dessert which was so interesting and well balanced with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My boyfriend even tried Turkish coffee for the first time, or what I lovingly call " delicious jet fuel". All in all, we will be back and hope this restaurant sticks around for good.
Great restaurant-friendly service and delicious food
We had a wonderful evening
I honestly have never had a bad meal here. The food is excellent and the wait staff is always extremely friendly. Tonight there was a table of people that were being particularly rowdy and the staff offered us free dessert because of it which was a very nice gesture. Highly recommend this place
The food is very good and the large glass windows let in tons of light. The service is pleasant, although last time I was there for lunch it seemed like they were down one waiter to handle the crowd.
I can eat the assorted mezze plate as an entire meal. The fried calamari is also excellent: light and crisp.
There is a $24 prix fixe lunch which is a good value and has something for everyone. You can also order from the main menu.
What a gem of a restaurant! Everyone goes the extra mile to make sure clients are served well with a smile. The food is outstanding. Some of the best eggplant, shrimp and octopus. Everything tastes fresh and everything shows how much attention they pay to detail. Nothing seems ordinary. GO and try them if you love great Mediterranean food. Even their bread is fresh baked and comes out warm and wonderful.
Living in nyc for 20 yrs I definitely have my favorite spots listed and 8th Hill is on the top of the list.
The staff is super friendly and welcoming , There is always a nice looking crowd there, men and woman so definitely come for happy hour. Great selection in wine as well
Now let's talk about the food, first they have the most amazing soup the lentil soup! To die for in fact whenever I'm sick or feeling under the weather I crave this homemade soup.
Their octopus is amazing the chicken skewers are also another dish I get , and oh and zucchini pancakes delicious. You can't go wrong with this place it's on my top 5
I really liked this restaurant from ambiance, food to cocktails.
We tried the red sangria, which was delicious and not overly sweet.
Complimentary bread came to our table and was decent. Two of us shared a babaganoush appetizer with pita and it was very flavorful and a large portion.
Our main courses were the chicken and mussels. Both were seasoned well and memorable. Our service was great, checked on just enough, but not in your face too much.
Loved having dinner at this gem called 8th Hill. I told a bunch of people about this place as soon as I left.
Service is really attentive and friendly. We had a reservation and got a table right by the window, but we were told that another reservation was coming in an hour and a half. This was fine because the service and food were pretty quick and we actually never felt rushed.
We ended up getting a bunch of mezzes: hummus (tasty and creamy, pita was fire), babaganoush (great smoked flavor and texture), burrata (maybe the best I've had). We also had the Mediterranean salad - really fresh and bright. This inspired me to make my own at home.
Overall a really great experience. We'll be back!
Looking for a light lunch to share on a sunny Sunday and I remembered I wanted to try this place. I'm so glad we did.
First the service at the bar with our friendly bartender was outstanding.
She said yes to everything we asked for... light ice in our drinks. No problem. Medium well on the steak. In other words, they are VERY accommodating and didn't make us feel weird about it.
We sat at the bar and shared that steak sandwich along with a couple of fruity Rose Sangria's. It was a really nice day and meal. Felt like family. Stop in but late in the week for dinner. Wonderful and will be back.
The food was not good. The rolls were almost frozen on the inside, multiple entrees were served without the proper items listed on the menu. Would not go back.
Seating was prompt for Sunday brunch (before the rush). But the following missteps occurred: 1 - chargeable water brought even though tap requested; was sent back, but remained on bill at end. 2 - companion's bloody mary was so salty he could not drink it. 3 - companion ordered omelette without the feta cheese - it arrived with feta cheese. In each case the problem was made good, but one should not have to keep requesting corrections. Provided rolls very nondescript.
On the plus side, my eggs benedict and accompanying screwdriver was good, and the prices are decent, considering a brunch drink is included. Atmosphere is pleasant, had gotten quite loud by the time we left.
On Friday night they have live music which makes conversation nearly impossible. Service was very good,
Amazing food! Outstanding service! Extraordinary ambiance! Would definitely visit again.
Reserved a special offer table of happy hour. Did not explain that a reserved table does not have happy hour. Only available at the bar. Advertising by open table was not clear
Great space and the Food and drinks were delicious. Waiter forgot to put in our two appetizers and we had to remind him once our entrees were served. Would have appreciated if he was genuinely apologetic or attempted service recovery.
Best. Meal. Ever.
Literally everything from the dips to the main meal were delicious. Drinks were phenomenal. And the desserts were out of this world.
Every dish is amazing. You can't go wrong.
This is a MUST !
This place exceeded all of my expectations! First off, the complimentary bread was amazing. We asked for three baskets - not kidding and utterly shamelessly because it was THAT good.
The rest of the food that followed just got better and better! Go in a big group if you can and just order everything!! I'll definitely come back and try some of the other things they have!
The food was soooooo good that I ate everything before I could even get a picture. On 2/14 my finacee and I decided to eat here for valentine’s day. Needless to say we both were blown away. I enjoyed every single item. Like I said in the intro. The food was amazing. We both looked at each other afterwards and realized we didn't take any pictures. I definitely will be eating here again.
Wow. Beautiful on all the senses.
With so many lovely things from which to choose on the menu, we decided that we would order lots of small plates to share. Everything was beautifully presented and most enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the octopus.
We enjoyed top notch service too. I look forward to coming back when I am in town again.
If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out! 8th Hill is the most delicious food I've had in NYC (having lived here 20 years). Every single dish was bursting with flavor and perfectly prepared. If you eat meat trying the lamb dishes is a must. The restaurant has an elegant feel and the service was excellent. I wish I had discovered this place earlier.
8th Hill is one of my favorite restaurants, it has a good atmosphere and excellent service.
My favorite dishes are pacanga borek and shaslik, try them because you will not regret it. They have good cocktails, I tried the kizilada and it was excellent.
The prices are suitable for the place and the food category. It is not a cheap place but it has excellent food.
I recommend you to book although if you go without a reservation it is possible to sit at the bar as they serve food.
Great to have in the neighborhood, excellent quality
Appetizers were delicious (calamari with tartar sauce infused with crushed olives, yum!!), salmon with spinach...amazing. Wasn't over the top about the lab chops, needed more seasoning as was medium rare not medium well as requested. However the location is so beautiful, the service so attentive and the cocktails so delicious that it out weighed the lamb snafu. I would definitely go back!
The food took over two hours just for one of our entrees (lamb chops) to be completely undercooked so we sent it back to wait ANOTHER 30 mins and for it to come back still under cooked. I asked the waiter if i could just get the check because i had enough but he kept saying my food will be out shortly and kept apologizing. Terrible experience. Would not recommend to anyone.
We came here for Valentine's Day, which I realize is not the greatest day to evaluate a new restaurant. If we had had this experience any other evening, I probably would have rated them lower, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. The place was packed, and the waitstaff, while hard-working and competent, could not keep up. The mezze course was a little disappointing, although the main course was quite good. I'm sorry I could not give them a better review as I really want them to do well.
The service was incredibly slow despite it being Valentine's Day and a very limited Price Fixe menu. The food on the whole was good but all of the appetizers arrived cold. A dish described as a string bean appetizer arrived as shredded string beans -- which is very different than what I expected and should not have omitted that key word. It took 40 minutes for the chocolate mousse (clearly already prepared and just plated) dessert to arrive after our main course (even though I tried to hurry it along by asking for our desserts before we even finished our main course). Despite all of that, it was all pretty tasty. But the fact that it took 2 hours and 40 minutes from being seated until finishing dessert is kind of outrageous. Ok it was Valentine's Day, but still it was an extremely limited menu...
slow slow slow service.
Mediocre food, not worth the price
I loved EVERY SINGLE thing that they brought me. I am obsessed. The food is fresh and light, and they aren't stingy with the portions. I was stuffed when I left and already day dreaming about my next visit. Turns out it wouldn't be too far away, because I talked my husband into trying it out the following weekend, and yeah, it was still freakin delicious. I honestly couldn't tell you any low points. Well, maybe the screaming child sitting right by us, but that's not 8th Hill's fault :P
I am a lifelong 8th Hill fan, and totally plan to make up for all the months that I was missing out!
A consistent neighborhood gem with great food, good value and the most consistently warm and wonderful staff.
This city is filled with great restaurants that can break the bank, but 8th Hill provides quality food at extremely decent prices. The ambiance is super casual and comfortable and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends.
Once we got a table inside, everyone was happy. The food was super delicious, drinks awesome and the service extraordinary!
I totally recommend to try it and you will be in love with it.
This restaurant was extremely lovely. The atmosphere and decorations were so nice and the service was amazing! They make you feel like they care that you're there. And most of all, the food was absolutely delicious! The babaghannoush, hummus, fresh warm pita bread were scrumptious- the chicken skewers were cooked just right. I will definitely be back!!
Prepare for tiny portions. Over priced and mediocre at best. This place needs to be renovated. Old.
Interesting food, well prepared, beautiful setting
Very nice atmosphere and quiet so you can hear people at your table.
Looooooove this place!
So let's just say this place is King of UWS! The drinks are well mixed delicious and beautiful. The atmosphere is lively. The owner is frequently there. It's good for medium size groups, but had a mezzanine area for private events.
The food doesn't disappoint. Go, you'll find something and love it.
Great place, excellent food!
Flavors of eastern Mediterranean presented in an appetite enhancing manner. Very attentive service. Has become a neighborhood standard.
very nice place, great ambiance, excellent service overall and great food, I'm a vegetarian and could find something to eat, just a little expensive I think.
