Great food and service. Really delicious. A bit on the noisy side.
Went to 8th Hill the first time this past weekend with a party of four. The food was consistently excellent and we tried many different items. Nothing disappointed at all. Our server really hustled and the manager was on the floor working hard also and both were very pleasant. Things were a touch disorganized - took too long for the bar to make the cocktails, some appetizers lagged (we share everything so no one was kept waiting). It seems like the growing pains of a new place. But we were impressed with how nice and diligent the service was (our waitress was literally standing at the bar pushing the bartender to make our drinks) and we loved the food, so we will happily return.
Very UNINSPIRED food; soggy cream soaked spinach beneath salmon, which was served rare, when I had requested medium well. All food was quite bland. Music was too loud.
A very diappointing dinner. A neighborhood restaurant we would not consider returning to.
Service is unbelievably good. Food is excellent.
This is an elegant place where one can choose small plates, entrees or both. It’s a blend of Turkey, Bulgaria, France - delicious food graciously served. High time the UWS has something that works for casual great food or a big night out.
The food is fresh, tasty and in many ways original. Service was excellent. A worthy successor to an old favorite, Isabella, formerly at the same location.
We enjoyed our first dining experience at 8th Hill. The food was excellent. We had the salmon and the burger. Both were perfectly prepared. The bread is amazing! And the wine selection is quite good - the sauvignon blanc is a nice selection. The seating is very comfortable. There is ample room between tables. The neutral tones of the decorating are soothing. Service was good, but varied by server. Some were much better than others. We will return to the restaurant.
Just wonderful for brunch. The restaurant is lovely, comfortable and quiet. Brunch was delicious (though no drink or coffee was included in the price of the dish). The jazz piped in was not overwhelming, and we were able to carry on a conversation. Very pleasant.
Food was very good. Service was excellent. Prices are high. Love the new addition to the neighborhood but it has very little ambiance.
Thrilled to have this addition to the Upper West Side, great location, great food, great service! Will definitely go back.
Tried this place out as a recommendation from a close friend when visiting NYC. Was not disappointed! We probably over did it on the food because at the end of the night my boyfriend was falling asleep on the table.
We started with the appetizer platter, and WOW so so so delicious. Continued with the pacanga borek (YUM!). Finished off with the 8th Hill special which was PERFECT.
Everything was excellent, and the service in this place cannot be beat.
Oh my, what a lunch we had! 8th Hill, be prepared, you'll want a reservation even for lunch, so do your planning. The food is quite fantastic. We enjoyed menemen, the Benedicts. Everything was excellent! We all deserve to treat ourselves from time to time!
I personally loved what I ordered here. I don't remember the sauce in my ribs but it was so delicious.
We also ordered this cheese pie (it was goat cheese but let's just say delicious). It's not a quiet place but the service is great. Our waitress and the staff were so helpful and so kind! I appreciate a place with great service!
Please check this place out.
What can I say-- Excellent service, extremely delicious food and great ambiance. It can get very busy so I suggest reserving ahead of time like we did to avoid the wait.
If I lived here, I would try everything because any of their food would probably not disappoint.
We had appetizer platter (hummus, babagansh, eggplant) with bread for our appetizer and it is the best one I've had so far. For main, I ordered the shaslik! The meat just melts in your mouth. For dessert we all tried chocolate molten cake which was amazing!
A super new restaurant in NYC that is great for brunch. The french toast was sooo good. I would highly recommend anything on the menu though. The service is excellent. It's little pricey but worth it for a fancy brunch. It was hard to get into -- but it's worth the wait! We'll be back.
My cousins and I came for breakfast and the food was delicious. We ordered the puff pastry with scrambled eggs, the eggs Benedict, and the pancakes. We loved this place!
There is a very limited menu and no wine list
Food is very unspectacular
My wife has similar ethnic roots and familiarity with this style of cooking. The dolma she felt was superb, like her grandmother used to make, as was the Mediterranean salad with perfectly grilled jumbo shrimp. My poached Branzini(o) in light tomato and pepper broth was succulent and tender, though a bit uninspiring. Sam the maitre'd was delightfully patient in sharing descriptions of the many offerings. All service was professional and efficient. We are likely to return when in the area.
Food was substandard, service a bit slow. Needs improvement and there are better options in the neighborhood.
Enjoyed a wonderful late evening meal here. Broad selection of Mediterranean food.
Waowwwww . I was amazed from the time I walked to the time I walked out. We were greeted and full menu was explained by manager.
Ambience - 10/10
Noise Level - Moderate
Parking- Good Luck
Service - 10/10
We came here to celebrate an intimate early birthday dinner with my niece. The ambiance was hot, full of high energy, sexy and grand! We will be back.
All of the staff here made our anniversary dinner unforgettable, thank you.
We chose this new restaurant to celebrate our daughter’s recent wedding:
Semi, the owner, and his general manager supervised the whole event, making sure every detail was taken care of:
We were served a variety of delicious Mediterranean appetizers with warm mini flat breads.
According to our guests, the main course choices of fish, sea bass, dorade and/or salmon were each very tasty and cooked to perfection.
As for dessert, 8th Hill pastry chef baked us a 5-tier wedding cake for the occasion and it was absolutely delicious: A black forest made of chocolate sponge cake with whipped cream and delicious fruits.
An unforgettable night !
I came here for my birthday celebration. Noted such when I made the reservation. I friend reiterated same when we sat at the table.
Believe it was a language barrier but they forgot my appetizer which I then got to go because I didn’t want everyone to wait for their entree. They didn’t put a candle on any dessert. My friends who selected the restaurant were embarrassed. The food was ok but not good enough to put up with all the service issues
So delicious! Couldn't wait to go there for the second time.
Nice bar area if you don't want to come in for dinner. Plenty seats in the back.
Great restaurant with nice service.
Absolutely Amazing experience!!!
We came to celebrate my son's 30th Birthday. They all made it very special for us. From the minute you walk in your treat with the upmost hospitality.
One by one they make their rounds from table to table, giving you their full attention while suggesting the very best for your table.
It was spectacular!!! Absolutely Amazing!!
Loved everything about this place!
The food was amazing. The ambiance was impressive. And the best part was the service.
This is definitely a place you should try, it is an experience of itself just being at this place!
Large, beautiful restaurant. 8th Hill has traditional Turkish cuisine with a modern twist and with some interesting variations. The presentation is lovely, the service attentive and efficient. A welcome addition to the Upper West Side.
I tried the "house specialty" sirloin steak, Decidedly uninspired and flavorless. Management comped one drink after letting them know I was displeased with my entree. Nice service but won't be going back
This is our 2nd time at the 8th Hill since it opened this year. I love the food and service and the open doors adds to the ambience of sitting inside but feel the breeze from outside. If I close my eyes I feel like I am back in Europe enjoying tapas and mediterranean food. A must try for anyone. Delicous. You will not be disappointed.
The food was excellent given the price and I would go back just to taste the branzini with fennel one more time. I haven’t sampled the full menu, but this fish could become their signature dish. It’s that good. So simple, but I’ve never tasted anything like it. The octopus was also superb and all the portions were generous. Everything we ate was delicious...truly delicious.
But so much else was rough around the edges. The wait staff and door staff were super friendly but kind of tried “too hard”, so it felt awkward. Our waiter’s English was very limited to explain dishes on the menu (very sweet guy! Appreciated his effort! But we really struggled to understand what he was saying...finally just took a chance and ordered “blind”, not sure of what I was ordering). The menu itself doesn’t describe the dishes, so if you don’t know Turkish food already, about 1/3 of the menu is a big mystery. Why not put descriptions on the menu when the title of the dish is a Turkish word? As others have said, the round cafe tables for 2 people are too small...get bigger tables or use smaller dishes! The inverted curve of the bench seating is, shall we say, “unique” (not in a good way given where we were positioned on the bench). Our first table rocked so much that the waitress didn’t even try to fix it, just switched our table. My fish came in a metal dish straight from the oven, but the waiter didn’t warn me it was hot... ouch!
We really want to see this place make it... the food is so so good. But they need to work on delivering the overall experience. The restaurant feels “self conscious” rather than “self assured”. Obviously that impacted our dining experience. If they were to iron out the kinks, this would become an UWS gem and a reason to visit the UWS from other parts of the city.
Excellent waitress. Great service. Child friendly.
This place is AMAZING! I loved every single item. It wasn’t my first time and definitely won’t be the last time. I’ll be back again and again.
Absolutely the best Mediterranean food I’ve had in the Upper West Side and maybe in all of New York. The Manti (the one with meat, not the veggie one ... sorry!!) is hands down the best I’ve had anywhere in the world. Great Octopus and very good Dolma. And very relaxing atmosphere as well
AbsolutelyLoved the Mediterranean appetizer plate!! Especially the Babaganoush. The service was excellent too.
Superb cuisine. Service slow. Coffee was served tepid
Service excellent. Most food...8th salad, grilled shrimp & lamb chops very good. Chicken shish was dry. Will come back
I have been to Isabella's and have now been to 8th hill as well. Reading some of the most recent reviews about 8th hill and what people had to say when comparing with Isabella's the previous restaurant which occupied the space. I must say I find it comical, I have eaten at both at the time when isabellas and now 8th hill. First off I must say 8th hill did a magnificent job on the decor and complete renovations they did. Isabellas was run down and all tables were on top of each other. The food at 8th hill was fresh and delicious and beautifully presented. Isabella's was good food but average if anything. The restaurant is a prime location in which 8th hill came and re did everything to make a beautiful corner space come to life. I'm sure they will be putting outdoor seating as well but being a New Yorker I know everything is a slow moving process. Personally and realistically Isabella's being a special place was a much lower class level compared to 8th hill from decor to furniture to food etc..., GREAT NEWS is very affordable pricing for fine dining. 8th hill will not only be a special place but it will be a go to in the upper west side!! I recommend and will for sure return to enjoy more of what 8th hill has to offer.
On a side note back to what matters and what a restaurant should be judged on when writing a review.
For our appetizers we ordered Braised green beans which is unique and absolutely delicious.
We also shared the pan fried calfs liver which was just as good.
For main course We had the 8th hill special which is beautifully prepared and topped off at the table with sizzling butter delicious. My wife had the dorado which was fresh and full of flavor and cooked to perfection!
Service was attentive and on point!
I would like to say THANK YOU to the 8th hill and stuff of this place for bringing it to our neighborhood! Our experience with them is always outstanding! The food and drinks are incredible, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming that you just want to come back here again and again! Can’t wait to dine there again
