The menu was expensive, the food was awful and the service terrible. No wonder the restaurant was empty. I can’t imagine it will stay open for long. The worst evening in a very long time.
The food was fantastic our drinks were very delicious our server Oktay was very attentive and friendly. Make sure to try the sampler platter and the short ribs it’s super delicious. We will definitely be coming back soon.
Good food at a quiet restaurant where you can actually hear your companions conversation
We celebrated a friend’s birthday. The decor was understated and warm. The service was great. The food was delicious. We will certainly be coming back.
Good food and pleasant menus and environment. Staff excellent. Okra was a bit salty, but otherwise fine. Rice was excellent.
Good value for location. Portions good size not to big
The food at 8th Hill is delicious. There is good space between tables so you’re not on top of your neighbors and it was not noisy.
On a recent Monday evening, the service was unfortunately slow though. We had to call over the server to place our orders and it took a while to get our drinks. I’d try 8th Hill again another night because the food was tasty and it seemed like they just had an off night.
Food and service were excellent
Check out the pictures on their website
Presentation was amazing
Wonderful wait staff and beautifully redone restaurant. Food was good and well presented.
We had a great brunch at 8th Hill, and we appreciated the friendly, knowledgeable servers and the helpful staff. We're very happy to have 8th Hill in the neighborhood.
Very authentic Turkish/Mediterranean food. Everything was fresh and delicious- we really enjoyed the grilled Dorado (filet), that was crispy on the outside but moist and flavorful on the inside. Also loved the lamb chops- so juicy and the marinade gave great flavor. Both came with nice sautéed veggies and crispy potatoes. Almond pudding for dessert was phenomenal.
Service was great; everyone friendly. We will definitely be back to this new (four months old) restaurant!!!!
There was an issue with staffing which delayed the meal considerably but the owner Sam was very gracious & comped our meal and desserts. We will give it another chance in the future.
Although the waiter was very helpful in describing several items on the menu, he then ignored us for almost 15 minutes. Our appetizers arrived before our first round of drinks. Nonetheless, the food was beautifully presented and each of us enjoyed our meal.
A first visit to 8th Mile
Lovely food, good service, a little expensive, all in all a very good dining experience
Great food, great ambiance and excellent service. When i find out this place is open for just 4 months, i was shocked because doing a business in this level in very short time is exceptional! I will be back again and again.
FYI: All items that we tried was delicious but their branzino in traditional way and octopus were “die for it” ! We are glad to have this kind of business in UWS!
Delicious food... from their mezes to wine to the main course. Lentil soup was amazing and so were the other vegetarian dishes. Our friends - who eat meat - said that the lamb here was one of the best they have had.
I was so excited to try a new restaurant that was so highly rated while in NYC with my team last week! 8th Hill did not disappoint. My friend and I were the first to arrive, and we were deciding between the two rosés on the menu, when our server offered us a taste of each - very nice! We opted for the drier of the two, which was served in chilled glasses which I thought was an awesome touch. Nothing better than a super cold glass of rosé, in my opinion.
When the rest of our group arrived, we ordered a selection of appetizers. Hummus, falafel, and a baked shrimp and feta dish were just some of the dishes among many we shared. This was a great start to the meal and everything I tasted was delicious.
The chicken dish I had my eye on wasn't available that night, so I opted for the baked salmon with creamed spinach. My other thought was to go for the off-menu dumplings in Greek yogurt sauce, but I will have to try those next time. The salmon proved to be a great choice - a nice mix of healthy and rich/savory on one plate.
Everyone was stuffed after their meals and we skipped dessert. It's worth noting that service was excellent and the staff worked together so you could make eye contact with any of the servers and they would be right over to help (usually just for another glass of wine since they were so on top of everything else, including water refills). I would happily return for another meal.
Excellent dining experience!
The menu was very unique, food was tasty, staff was friendly and courteous, and food was reasonably priced for the location.
This was my 1st time dining here and will recommend it to others looking to try something new.
Absolutely fantastic food - we had a wonderful meal here. The ambience is very nice and it is a good location for a date. The lavash-wrapped kebab was delicious and they had the best kunefe that we've had between many Turkish restaurants. We recommend that anyone try this out and we will definitely be going back again.
Noisy and crowded. Dangerous seating by open staircases. Food is marginal - especially fried food. They reuse the cooking oil and it leaves a rancid taste on the food. What a pity - it's a great location.
This was our second visit to this restaurant with a mezzanine. We enjoyed out first time because they had just opened and we ate early. This time it was at 7 pm and on a Saturday nite. We were 5 friends, some we hadn’t seen in years from far away and to our utter dismay, were seated on the mezzanine at a table for 5 adjacent to a loud party of 10 or 11 young women. The din was terrible! The restaurant is totally open and noisy. There are no surfaces that absorb noise. We couldn’t hear the person next to us. We watched as others sampler parties came up and wanted to move downstairs. We bolted our food to get out of there and saw that another table for 5 downstairs sat empty the entire time we were there. We will not be going back for dinner there.
Food was delicious, though a bit expensive for Mediterranean cuisine.
Excellent and sophisticated food, good atmosphere, good service.
We went there to celebrate my birthday. The food was good but not as much as you usually expect for brunch these days. Tasted good and healthy options on the menu. Just not really anything special in my opinion. I thought the decor was lovely but a bit disappointed in the overall experience. Wouldn’t go out of my way to return.
Great food and service. Really delicious. A bit on the noisy side.
Went to 8th Hill the first time this past weekend with a party of four. The food was consistently excellent and we tried many different items. Nothing disappointed at all. Our server really hustled and the manager was on the floor working hard also and both were very pleasant. Things were a touch disorganized - took too long for the bar to make the cocktails, some appetizers lagged (we share everything so no one was kept waiting). It seems like the growing pains of a new place. But we were impressed with how nice and diligent the service was (our waitress was literally standing at the bar pushing the bartender to make our drinks) and we loved the food, so we will happily return.
Very UNINSPIRED food; soggy cream soaked spinach beneath salmon, which was served rare, when I had requested medium well. All food was quite bland. Music was too loud.
A very diappointing dinner. A neighborhood restaurant we would not consider returning to.
Without a doubt the worst meal in years. My husband started with liver with onions. It was served sliced up and deep fried with raw onions. We sent it back. Dorado fish was fine but salads dripping in olive oil. Desserts were not homemade. Too sweet and a date confection that was like frozen ready- wip. Wine by the glass made this meal quite pricey. This place will never last.
Service is unbelievably good. Food is excellent.
This is an elegant place where one can choose small plates, entrees or both. It’s a blend of Turkey, Bulgaria, France - delicious food graciously served. High time the UWS has something that works for casual great food or a big night out.
The food is fresh, tasty and in many ways original. Service was excellent. A worthy successor to an old favorite, Isabella, formerly at the same location.
We enjoyed our first dining experience at 8th Hill. The food was excellent. We had the salmon and the burger. Both were perfectly prepared. The bread is amazing! And the wine selection is quite good - the sauvignon blanc is a nice selection. The seating is very comfortable. There is ample room between tables. The neutral tones of the decorating are soothing. Service was good, but varied by server. Some were much better than others. We will return to the restaurant.
Just wonderful for brunch. The restaurant is lovely, comfortable and quiet. Brunch was delicious (though no drink or coffee was included in the price of the dish). The jazz piped in was not overwhelming, and we were able to carry on a conversation. Very pleasant.
Food was very good. Service was excellent. Prices are high. Love the new addition to the neighborhood but it has very little ambiance.
Thrilled to have this addition to the Upper West Side, great location, great food, great service! Will definitely go back.
Tried this place out as a recommendation from a close friend when visiting NYC. Was not disappointed! We probably over did it on the food because at the end of the night my boyfriend was falling asleep on the table.
We started with the appetizer platter, and WOW so so so delicious. Continued with the pacanga borek (YUM!). Finished off with the 8th Hill special which was PERFECT.
Everything was excellent, and the service in this place cannot be beat.
Oh my, what a lunch we had! 8th Hill, be prepared, you'll want a reservation even for lunch, so do your planning. The food is quite fantastic. We enjoyed menemen, the Benedicts. Everything was excellent! We all deserve to treat ourselves from time to time!
What can I say-- Excellent service, extremely delicious food and great ambiance. It can get very busy so I suggest reserving ahead of time like we did to avoid the wait.
If I lived here, I would try everything because any of their food would probably not disappoint.
We had appetizer platter (hummus, babagansh, eggplant) with bread for our appetizer and it is the best one I've had so far. For main, I ordered the shaslik! The meat just melts in your mouth. For dessert we all tried chocolate molten cake which was amazing!
I personally loved what I ordered here. I don't remember the sauce in my ribs but it was so delicious.
We also ordered this cheese pie (it was goat cheese but let's just say delicious). It's not a quiet place but the service is great. Our waitress and the staff were so helpful and so kind! I appreciate a place with great service!
Please check this place out.
A super new restaurant in NYC that is great for brunch. The french toast was sooo good. I would highly recommend anything on the menu though. The service is excellent. It's little pricey but worth it for a fancy brunch. It was hard to get into -- but it's worth the wait! We'll be back.
