My vision for Eighth & English is to create a place that moves to its own eccentric rhythm; a place where people feed on the energy of the room, the food on the plate, and the art on the walls.
Our menu is inspired by water: rivers, streams, lakes and oceans. You’ll find seafood with scales and some with shells, some in the raw and others cooked until tender or flaky. But fear not carnivores, we have you covered, and you too who prefer nourishment born of seed and soil.
Come in. Dine out to sea.
It was closed for what looked like not paying their taxes, but pentacle allowed me to make a reser4vation and go there--only to see PUBLIC NOTICE: no retail sales allowed, and all the lights out. Then, because I had a reservation, I couldn't make another as a substitute. Great night.
This restaurant is shut down and did not tell any people with reservations. I had a party of five go there last night for a Birthday celebration and it was dark with dishes and glasses still on the table.
Showed up to a closed
The restaurant was closed when we arrived there😫
Went out of business.
We went 4 months ago and everything was awesome 🥰
My partner and I work 7 days a week, sunup to well after sundown. We had a rare few hours off together, wanted some delicious food with good service, so we headed here! I’ve been here a couple of times previously, she had not, but I highly recommended the food, and she’s usually thrilled with healthy, fresh ingredients. I’ve had the same server every time I’ve been there and we had her again, I wish I could recall her name, she was lovely. We were greeted immediately at the door by a bubbly (not too bubbly) hostess with a big smile, our server was on it in an appropriate amount of time for us to know we definitely wanted a couple of the cocktails on the list, but we’re unsure which ones. We heard the features for the evening, and got down to business. Both cocktails were lovely, the Ecliptic and the Honey & Rye. We shared 3 appetizers, the poke, stuffed squid, and the octopus salad. All were delicious, although we are salt fiends and could’ve done with a tiny bit more in the squid, we moved onto the striped bass. This dish was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, I’ve not had better bass before. I can’t wait to try it again, actually. Our server suggested the verdicchio, I was waffling between a Chablis and a Sav Blanc, the Verdicchio was the perfect balance, especially with the bass. Dessert was great too! An almond cake that was dense, not too sweet and not too rich, with en espresso and a 10 yr Tawny Port. It was a great night out! I know we’ll be back, thanks for a much needed perfect evening!
Excellent anniversary dinner! The swordfish meatballs were delicious. We then shared the raw bar platter and the halibut. Everything was wonderful. One of the best places in the city to get fresh seafood! Our server was also very knowledgeable about the menu and took great care of us. Will definitely return!!
Dollar oysters on Tuesday is a great deal. Staff was very friendly and took great care of our large party. Only down side is no draft beer which is a must for oysters.
There were too few customers, the wait staff was less than energetic and inviting. A bad night? . . . maybe.
Tuesday oyster night was everything I expected and more. Matt has served us twice. He is pleasant and personal.
Enjoyed nice dinner
8th and English is a lovely restaurant in ambience and service. We have dined there before and always taste something different, except for the swordfish meatballs which are a must. Our server helpfully described several wines in words we could understand to pair with our order. This is seafood with an adventurous zing.
Excellent quality food and service. It was a nice atmosphere for an early Wednesday dinner.
A large group of 9 celebrating a birthday. Our waitress was knowledgeable and very kind - especially with have three small kids. The food, as always, was delicious. I highly recommend this fantastic place to get your seafood fix!
Excellent food, drinks and service. I will definitely return.
My stuffed pepper was good. I don’t think it was $18 good. The sauce on the plate was fantastic, the pepper itself was ok.
Amazing food, service, and ambiance. My go to place to bring out of town guests.
Food is great. Although they were out of one entree we ordered and a bottle of wine we ordered. Not the cheapest place, we are well, but it was a $500 bill for four of us..
Food great. Sloppy service. First my son’s apppetizer never came - they somehow thought a 25 year old man was having the appetizer as a main course. Then, we had 3 desserts and only two came.
Marvelously prepared butterflied branzino. Crispy skin, and succulent meat. Easily enough to share. Unique tasty fries with bottarga, and a devil's food cake dessert that is worth waiting for. Imaginative and delicious specialty cocktails.
Good food and service. Parking is an issue.
We will go back.
If you like seafood this is for you. Varied menu but limited in entree selections by design.
Order the orange cake for desert. All was very good although I felt a bit pricey.
Our server was very helpful, friendly, engaging. Truly enjoyed ourselves!
Huge surprise, fantastic and delicious menu!!!!
Great service and environment. Came for the oysters and they were great. All the other seafood we had was delicious. Will definitely be back.
It was fine. Nothing special. Great service but food and space were meh.. Not a memorable experience overall or a place I'd necessarily want to go back to.
Our waitress was very sweet and even gave us a small appetizer and champagne for free since it was our first time and our anniversary.
We always have a great meal at 8th and English . The oysters from Prince Edward Island were outstanding, the halibut was superb and the stuffed pepper is always a favorite. The servers are always friendly and it's one of our go to restaurants. If you want a great meal you can't go wrong
Great seafood. Our server was outstanding!! He was incredibly knowledgeable about all the items on the menu, and food in general.
Lovely fresh seafood every time, small portions so that you can try a couple of things, decadent desserts that make you feel a bit guilty afterwards - isn't that what a special occasion is all about? Will definitely be back!
Cool ambiance but very loud! They have a nice variety on the menu... not sure if it was just an off night but 5 of the 7 in our group thought their dishes were extremely bland- specifically the gnocchi and lasagna. In fact, barely editable. The sword fish meatballs were good as was the halibut. The waiter was charming but not consistent in his attentiveness. Also the timing of the food was not in sync-assuming that was more an issue in the kitchen. Don’t go for the wine selection ... IMHO this place is good to meet for drinks at the bar... the bartender was on point. With all the options in Cincinnati and if they don’t step up their overall foodie game, I don’t see this place lasting.
Tues was oyster night and we had wonderful dollar oysters! All was good except some where in the kitchen my wife's fish got lost and I had been served my meal and it was another 20 min before her meal arrived. The manager stopped by asked how our food was but did nothing to make up for the snafu. Things happen but it's what follow up there is to straighten things out that counts. That was our first experience like that there so hopefully management comes up with a backup plan should the ball (or in this case the fish) gets dropped.
Went for oyster night on Tuesday night and the oranges were just scrumptious we had two different varieties and one was better than the other so love oyster nights love their fries just a different type of restaurant. Their Branzino is really tasty. They will definitely see us again
I'm a big seafood lover, and was a big fan of the Anchor in OTR until it closed. So, naturally I was excited to try this place, and I hate to say I was disappointed. Most menu items were underwhelming for the price. Our server was very soft spoken. We could barely hear him or get him to explain some of the dishes. Therefore, it was very hard to get excited about the menu. We ordered enough shareable plates to give the menu a good try. The best things we had were the potted crab, and swordfish meatballs. The stuffed squid was too salty and came out lukewarm. The gnocchi didn't have much flavor - had to add salt. The prawns were good, but very small and you only get four. The wedge salad was a bit odd - too many flavors trying to happen in at once. The beet dressing was a slightly weird pairing. Maybe we didn't try the right things, (but most were recommended by the server), however it is indicative of what the rest of the menu might be.
Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, and provided helpful, timely, and not rushed service. Our dinners were excellent with two having the striped bass and two the halibut. The curry sauce on the halibut was unusual and added to the flavor of the fish without overpowering. The grill technique for both was frost rate with a light char on the outside but moist and warm inside. The menu is not very large but each item including special salads were very well prepared and presented. Cincinnati has very few good seafood restaurants and this charming place is first rate.
Great place to get your seafood fix in Cincinnati and if you have some that will not do seafood... there are some poultry, meat and Vegi choices as well... but grilled fish was top notch.
Great seafood and drinks. Not a huge menu but they go for quality over quantity. Dessert also unique and delicious. Highly recommend. The menu has a few non seafood options for those whom fancy more land-based fare.
They use small gimlet glasses for martinis. Give me a break. They are less than half the size of a martini glass. So be warned while u are paying 12 dollars for a half a drink. Lousy pour.
I would definitely come here for dollar oyster night on Tuesdays or after seven on the weekends great looking place incredibly nice white staff but drink at home
Great, prompt service. Food was delicious as always. We didn't know Tuesdays were $1 oyster night - it was such a great surprise. Already looking forward to our next visit.
Food is very good, but prices are pretty steep for small plates.
Great food, knowledgeable staff. Definitely will be back.
