8th & English
My vision for Eighth & English is to create a place that moves to its own eccentric rhythm; a place where people feed on the energy of the room, the food on the plate, and the art on the walls.
Our menu is inspired by water: rivers, streams, lakes and oceans. You’ll find seafood with scales and some with shells, some in the raw and others cooked until tender or flaky. But fear not carnivores, we have you covered, and you too who prefer nourishment born of seed and soil.
Come in. Dine out to sea.
The food was very interesting, fresh and presented beautifully. Everything needed salt though, even the fries which was odd to me because usually I am a low salt person.
Servers were attentive but not intrusive.
The food was absolutely delicious! Our server Kyle was Amazing and was so knowledgeable about the menu and had wonderful recommendations! I wish the octopus salad had been a little bigger just because it was sooo good!
Food is so fresh! Menu is short and sweet! Ceviche tapa is extremely tiny and hard to share but all in all...one of my favorite places! Will be back for sure!
What a fabulous dining experience. Kyle our server was excellent and his recommendations were spot on. The oysters, the cucumber salad, the lobster spaghetti, orange cake, the rolls and the halibut were all amazing. (Only quibble would be that the two slender Alaskan King crab legs was not much crab for $32.)
Truly one of the top 3 restaurants in Cincy. When I want seafood, that’s where we go.
The food here is very good, especially the halibut. It's so good that it almost makes dealing with the erratic pay parking machine in the adjacent lot (not owned by the restaurant) tolerable.
We had an incredible experience! The food was fantastic, and our service was top notch with great recommendations. Thank you!!
Great seafood restaurant in cincy
Delicious food, loved the octopus salad and crudo. Will definitely be back again.
Our family of 4 including two teenagers dined at the restaurant on Saturday, 8:30pm. We live just a few blocks away and had been there before. We wanted to try out the new menu - especially given its recent top-10 award. The food was quite good. I had the stuffed branzino and my husband had the halibut curry in a sublime curry sauce. The problem was that they were out of so many selections: crab legs, shrimp - the two appetizers we wanted to share with the kids. They were out of bread by the time our entrees arrived, and out of the wine I had selected. My son ordered the strip steak: the presentation was nice but there could not have been more then 3 oz of meat. At well over $30 that was hardly a bargain. By comparison the fish servings were quite reasonable. The kitchen was backed up and our server really struggled. She didn’t communicate well. We received our glasses of wine well over 30min after seating and the appetizers arrived nearly another 30 min later. They may not have anticipated such a busy night but when you have a limited menu to begin with there is little margin for error. My advice is come early on a weeknight and stick to seafood, or expect to be disappointed.
We had a great time and the food was excellent. We know this building and love what you have done to make it feel like a New England fish house. From the oysters to the lemon tart - fantastic.
My ‘standard’ gin martini was not good at all. I thought there was too much vermouth, another one was brought and it too was not good. I think in an attempt to make it dirty, an excessive amount of olive brine was used (I did not order it dirty). Otherwise the food was good.
Was a great dining experience.
Great job overall. Menu was creative, simple but very well done. The Branzino was perfect. Atmosphere was great. Not pretentious but tasteful. Our server was fantastic. Very knowledgable and easy going. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back.
Of the 3 items we ordered, the halibut and bruschetta were outstanding. It would have been nice to have a soup spoon with the bruschetta as the sauce was phenomenal and I wanted to slurp up every last drop. Licking the bowl didn't seem appropriate. The bruschetta de jour was sourdough with hazelnuts and goat cheese with a honey drizzle. Delicious. The greens salad was lots of greens and few beets and pistachios. The specialty G&T cocktail was good, but the crushed ice was too much ice and it was crushed—neither which heightened the flavor or ease of drinking.
Ive been to 8th and English several times and always had a great meal and steller service. I was disappointed this trip with the size of prawns as well as after waiting for an order we were told the kitchen ran out what we had ordered. I will say they worked very hard to make up for it, comping a round of drinks as well as sending out two items we hadnt ordered. I would return, hoping this was just a fluke.
SO SO GOOD. A Cincinnati gem! Definitely try the crab legs and spaghetti nero. I thought I need to travel to the coast for good fresh seafood. Nope, just need to head to 8th & English!
Great friendly service and wow, very good tasting food. Extremely flavorful. Great job Chef.
Sons in from Chicago and NYC joined us to celebrate my birthday. All perfect and Chef's dessert surprise was the very best. Hoping it will appear next time we dine which will be soon. Love the Tower presentation. Service is consistently good.
great place , nice ambiance ..will come back again for sure
Food was excellent and unique, waiter was well informed, atmosphere lively without being overly loud; you could have a conversation with your companion!
8th and English offers consistently excellent food. We are gluten free by necessity and find that the fare at 8th and E is wonderful and carefully prepared and served with our food allergies in mind. Additionally, the professionalism of our server, Jai, is second to none. We will be back.
Love 8th & English! Definitely a neighborhood gem! Great food and drinks and the service is excellent!
My chicken was dry, and very plain.
I dined there a week before and had fish, which was delicious.
Jai provided great service and first time experience! Can’t wait to go back once the menu changes, and will make sure to sit with him again!
Restaurant lovely, food great but service on our visit of 6 people, 2/16/19, was a problem.
Our waiter was wonderful, your kitchen...not so wonderful.
3 of us were served our dinners while the other three waited, and waited and waited. The first three finished their dinners just as the other three were served their dinners! That is why I rated your service with just one star. Again, our waiter was great. It wasn't his fault.
When I say "no" to would I recommend the restaurant to a friend it's because I wasn't given any option other than yes or no. In this case I would say yes if you are only two, maybe four diners, and no if you are a large party such as ours of six.
Amazing! Every dish was outstanding. The service was top notch. A must try is the Seared Dab - recommend to us by our server and it was phenomenal. Of course the raw bar was outstanding and a definite must. Highly recommend!
I took my boyfriend here for Valentine's day and he said the Spaghetti De Niro was the BEST dish he's ever had in his life!
8th & English did not disappoint. The cocktails, wine selections, and food were spectacular. We look forward to our next time there. My only negative criticism was the rush of cold air over our table every time someone came in or out of the restaurant.
Great place! I would go back any time. Great food.
We went here for Valentine's Day dinner. Amazing food! Kudos to the chef and choices. Our service was incredible. Only thing was as soon as you walk in there was a space heater right there. I get it, the industrial vibe, city, ambiance. But it's ok to spend a little to make the welcoming better. Also the wine upstairs in bucket of ice! No! Two words wine cooler. That being said it is a few of a place and will definitely be back. Those things can be fixed or over looked. The food and service was amazing. My wife has not stopped talking about it yet!
This is one of the best restaurants in the city. The wine list is a good one, and the quality of small or large plates is quite high. The halibut has been one of the favorites here, probably followed by the spaghetti negra. Our recent meal was really great, accompanied by a nice Sicilian red.
I took my wife there for Valentines Day. We thoroughly enjoyed the total experience! We both had seafood, it was fresh, and prepared very well. The wine stewart was very knowledgeable regarding all of their wine offerings and recommended a perfect compliment to our meals. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. We look forward to dining there again in the near future.
Food was delicious, portions are smaller. Service was good.
The menu is intimidating. It could be worded easier for the average customer. I would have another salad option. Only one the night we were there. The Prawns were perfectly cooked but with no seasoning. Very bland. The cocktail sauce very good just needed more.
Swordfish meatballs - Amazing, just real small. Baked Sword Fish amazing as well.
Service was good and she was very knowledgeable. Our waitress was winded and she was over whelmed.
Great job with sever dairy allergy.
From the time you walk in the door, this place is outstanding! A phenomenal collection of choices from the raw bar. We had the 8 & E halibut and for the first time I had Branzino, a Mediterranean Sea bass. This fish was prepared perfectly. The best I have ever had to this day. We also enjoyed the finest cannoli I we ever experienced including our visits to Italy.
Such a fine restaurant. My congratulations to all staff!
A group of 10 of us celebrated my mother‘s 93rd birthday, and everyone’s food was delicious! The host was outstanding in accommodating such a large group, and our server did a fantastic job explaining all of the dishes and making them sound as delicious as they were! We will be back!!
Outstanding restaurant despite the suburban location. Te food is terrific and innovative with wonderful flavors
Love this place.
