There was one large party and two tables and 4 at bar. Two servers, manager and cook? Service was slow considering few in entire restaurant.
Need more staffing to be successful. Obviously the employees that left have impacted quality experience.
We sat outside and suffered a little from the heat until a breeze blew in because NO ONE inside had on a mask. Not just patrons eating but staff too. I should probably blame CDC and the confusing masks recommendations but umm still made me a little unconfortable and wonder what other COVID measures the place maybe lacked it. However, once outside I loved our waiter and enjoyed my time with friends and the food.
This was my first time and it was awesome! The food and service was great!

A nice spice; you don't feel crowded. But not enough wait staff. Our server was nice but stretched a bit thin. Small plates were tastier than entrees. Drinks were good. A tad noisy, but it's a cavernous space and there was a party in the back. I think w/ a few tweaks this place could be even better.
This restaurant has a lot of potential and the staff so friendly, however; service was very slow, confused, and seemed to be very all over the place. We would have to flag down servers for anything we needed and often needed to ask more than once as they forgot about us.
Food tasted great just service needs more organization and improvement.
Both food items we got were not that great, the oysters Rockefeller had lots of shells in it and the ceviche was absolutely the worst I've ever tasted and served with broken chips.
Very happy vegetarian! The small plates are so delicious. The eggplant, mushrooms, and cauliflower are great starters. The acorn squash entree has a wonderful curry flavor without overpowering the vegetables in the dish. The wine shop has some unique wines and spirits and the market downstairs makes a foodie want to spend money :) I'll definitely return.
Always great food and amazing cocktails. The only place I can find a special Merlot.
I had been following the build of 818 so I was super excited to try the restaurant out and browse the store while back in town.
Our server Nick was very good! Our orders were spot on and he checked on the table appropriately.
My friends and I enjoyed everything but the dessert. The creme brûlée was so tiny and barely anything in the ramekin that it wasn’t worth the money nor even being put on a menu as a dessert.
I would definitely return but perhaps not on Trivia night. It just got a little noisy once that started.
Food arrived late and cold. Maryland crab soup arrived without a crab. And 10 minutes after it was served someone came out out of the kitchen and said they forgot the crab and they’ll add it to the soup. Super weird. We mentioned the whole experience to the manager. Left pretty disappointed.
We like 818 and have been several times. The prices are a bit steep, and everyone was still a bit hungry after completing their meal. They used to do entrees inteded for two people. I guess this must've changed.
Service was a bit slow, luckily we were not in a rush.

This place is very cute and quaint. Service was great. I received my appetizers in a timely fashion. I had a NY strip steak that I ordered medium and it was wonderful! My bf ordered a pasta dish and it wasn’t what he thought it would be so he swapped it for a burger. The staff gave us absolutely no pushback about it and made the change swiftly. I came on a Friday night and it was not busy at all. Drink menu is interesting! I’d recommend trying one of their special cocktails. I had the lavender one! It was strong and I liked it! Lol I think I’ll definitely go back for the ambiance and steak and oh yea…OYSTERS!!
This was my first time dining at 818. I liked everything except the service was slow, and the appetizer arrived at the same time as the entrees. There must have been a problem in the kitchen. But the food was good when it finally arrived, the server was friendly, and we enjoyed sitting out on the deck while the sun was setting. One of my dining companions ordered an unusual drink, so the bartender came to our table to make sure he understood what our friend wanted; the drink turned out exactly as my friend wanted.
Pancakes were more like crepes, and they had very little taste. French toast was good.
Food was very good, prices were good-they have some good deals, live music set the mood for a fun atmosphere and the staff was very friendly.
Service was really bad. Would not recommend for special occasion.
We were seated and served quickly. The live music added a great touch for our father's day brunch atmosphere. Our food was delicious.
Half the party had amazing food, but the French toast and pancakes could use a little enhancement.
We enjoyed the food and drinks very much but waited a long time for everything. We were told by our server that she forgot to ring in our food. She was very nice, and we appreciated her honesty so we still left her a decent tip. We're not sure if perhaps the restaurant was understaffed. We'd love to give it a second chance in the future. Cheese plate was a bit pricey for the size.
I don’t know if our server was new but he bugged us every 5 minutes but didn’t deliver our appetizer until after a half an hour. I asked where it was, he then realized it was taken to another table. When we received our appetizer it did not have all the items on it. I know getting employees is tough but this was a training issue.
Atmosphere was nice! Sat out on the back patio which had a nice breeze as the sun went down. However, service was so bad! Waited forever to get drinks, then the waiter was no where to be found to order food. Ordered a non-alcoholic drink and when I tried to confirm that it was non-alcoholic the waiters couldn't tell me if it was or not. Not something I would want to hear if I was pregnant or allergic to something! The cheese plate, crab cake, asparagus, and mashed potatoes were very good. However, I ordered the chicken sandwich to go for my husband which took over 45 minutes to receive from the time I ordered until it came out. By the time it got to us, everything was cold. The chicken was completely burnt and so dry that my husband said it was awful. A friend ordered clams casino with butter on the side and it came out not looking like clams casino at all! Questioned it to a nearby waiter and the girl was extremely rude and nasty. Will never go back!
My husband and I just moved to Catonsville from Fells Point, and we have been missing our city haunts- until we stopped in at 818! All the comforts and unique features you might find in the city, under one roof! Dinner was so delicious that we even came back the next morning for breakfast and coffee. Service was great, enjoyed the entire experience. A truly special space, I foresee coming back many, many times!
Great experience at 818 for our family dinner! We were seated right away when we arrived for our reservation. Dining room is open and airy. They had the garage door up, so the entire room had an outdoor feel. Our server Abby came over quickly, bringing us water and taking our drink orders. My wife and I had some spectacular craft cocktails - pomerita for her and Hemingway daiquiri for me. 818 cocktails always far exceed anything else available locally! Kids had a draft root beer and a non-alcoholic cocktail that they loved.
For dinner, we started with a cheese plate (OMG!!) and the octopus (yummmmmm) off the inventive yet familiar menu. I got the seabass (get this! incredible!), my wife had a steak that was perfectly cooked. Kids got a burger and a chicken sandwich that was declared better than chic fil a. Dessert of strawberry shortcake and creme brûlée were hits too. We will return soon!
I frequently eat at 818 and am never disappointed. The staff is so efficient and friendly.

I’ve been to 818Market twice…once for lunch and once for brunch. Both times the food was delicious and the service was excellent. The handicapped access was terrific. This restaurant is a win for Catonsville.
I want this place to succeed. It’s a nice neighborhood anchor with good food and good ambiance but the service might have been the worst I ever experienced. Completely disorganized and inattentive. They really need a better system and better staff training and on-site management
The cuisine, service, and ambiance are always great at 818. Great for all occasions and the new menu is superb!
The food is very good. The service needs work - friendly but very poorly expedited kitchen. Oysters were fresh and we enjoyed them but wait staff couldn’t tell us anything about the varieties that were available so we went with a random mix. Cheese plate was nice, but delivered as wedges but without a cheese knife, and getting it off of the rind was difficult with a butter knife. Scallop and pork belly was well made and good. Entrees - tuna, sea bass, pork chop, burger, 2 plates of crab cakes - were all very good, but 2 were served well after the other 4, including one crab cake plate that was served well after the other crab cake plate and the asparagus was still left off that one when it was served late for still another extended period. Just oddly poorly expedited.
The staff was apologetic about the delays and explained that they had a party of 25 that hit all at once, but the restaurant was mostly empty so that didn’t seem to explain it. Also, 5 stalks of asparagus doesn’t take a long time to cook, and why one plate of crab cakes well after the other? I would be afraid to go there when they are busy until their kitchen figures things out. I don’t think they can handle any crowd at all.
The food is very good though, the crab cakes are made with jumbo lump Maryland crab meat - they aren’t skimping on ingredients.
Desserts were fine but not exceptional.
We will go back. Hopefully the menu rotates frequently - it’s small enough and foodie enough that I wouldn’t want to go back too frequently without a menu change or I’d get bored.
Along with Catonsville Gourmet, far and away one of the two best restaurants in Catonsville. Just need to stay freshly interesting on the menu and solve their very badly expedited kitchen.
This conversion of a wallpaper store into a bright new market and restaurant is a pleasant idea. Pulling it off successfully is another story. Our party arrived for brunch and were greeted and seated promptly. The restaurant had a live jazz band, which was nice. However, the band was using amps and playing into a mic, so it was extremely loud. (Given the acoustics of the 2nd floor restaurant, no amplification was needed.)
The service was friendly, but slow. We ordered drinks, which came fairly quickly, but the main courses took far too long to arrive at our table. And, when they did arrive, the food was tepid, except for my omelet, which was over-cooked, but warm.
818 needs to get it's timing correct before I'd recommend it
As a vegan, I was delighted to see vegan versions of eggs, cheese, and breakfast sausage on the brunch menu. I asked our server to check with the chef to see if he could make me a vegan Southwestern omelette. He said yes. What arrived was the size of an empanada, not an omelette. Clearly the chef needed to use more of the vegan egg substitute. It had plenty of the vegan cheese but no meat substitute at all. I asked our server about it, and he checked in with the chef, who said that he didn't have the meat but the server could go downstairs to the 818 store to get some and that he would then prepare me a side of it. I would have been much happier if the kitchen had been properly stocked so that they could provide the dishes on the menu that their customers order. I WOULD recommend the restaurant, but I hope they get things in order in the future.
Our food took over an hour. The server was very apologetic, however when the food came we were very disappointed. The sea bass was over cook & soba noodles with chicken & shrimp was extremely disappointing it came with 4 shrimp and one chick strip cut up, we ordered it with no veggies. The best thing was the octopus. The oysters were ok.

Tis mass of tender buttery with a hint of char…mekts in yiyr mouth. The whole menu is delightful.
The food tasted great! Unfortunately, the preparation was poor (ordered rare tuna, got well done, and ordered med-rare steak and got rare). The kitchen was slow, and the service was even slower and downright inattentive. If we hadn't flagged down our waitress on three occasions, I'm pretty sure we would have been ignored indefinitely.
The outdoor seating was great this afternoon, and the food and drink were nice.
The food was delicious and the offerings were quite unusual combinations. The wait was pleasant and attentive. Love the mix use design on the restaurant and other incorporated businesses.
The food was excellent. Our waiter, Nick was very friendly and knowledgeable. The open air feel was great, especially during the pandemic. We sat upstairs by the "garage door" and the breeze felt great on a hot day.
Everything was ordered was superb. Out waitress was lovely.
