800 Wilfs Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Excellent evening. Matre 'd John was wonderful and enjoyable to visit with. James was a great waiter and very attentive to whatever we needed. We were looking forward to the live music, but apparently they cancelled that afternoon. Food was absolutely excellent! We will be back!
We have been going to Wilfs for 10 years at least once a month . The service is perfect, the food always delicious and the atmosphere, charming and elegant and comfortable all at the same time. And the musical talent they showcase in the bar several nights a week is terrific too: particularly the Tony Pacini Trio last Friday of the month.
We went to Wilf's to celebrate our anniversary. We have dined there 2-3 times before and expected to have another memorable meal. Last time we both ordered Steak Diane and it was delicious, plus it was cooked at our table which was very fun. This time, we started with the seafood salad, which was outstanding. For entrees, I ordered Steak Diane again and my husband had the halibut. Unfortunately, the fish was overcooked and dry. When the waitress inquired about it, she immediately took it back to the kitchen and had another halibut prepared. The second time it was better but still overcooked. For dessert we split the chocolate cheesecake, which was delicious. All in all, it was a good meal but the halibut wasn't up to Wilf's usual standards.
I really appreciated the call from the restaurant to confirm my reservation and to see whether I wanted to sit in the restaurant or the bar for the entertainment. Food and service was excellent and the ambiance was extra special with the Christmas decorations that made the old building even more special.
The classy holiday decorations are so beautiful. John is the most gracious and fun host ever. The food was exquisite, the service was great, the live music was good but too loud for us to have comfortable conversation. We dine at Wilfs multiple times every year and always are pleased with everything.
The food was delicious, but very pricey. The service was quit good but we were there when it was very busy with a private party. We felt a little ripped off when we were brought a prosecco as we sat down for which we were charged two different prices (they had run out of the first offering) .
I really enjoyed this experience. The service was excellent! The jazz music wasn't too loud but yet provided a different atmosphere of dining. I felt like this was a relaxed fine dining experience - my type of dining.
I always fear how the service will be when using a Groupon ( I typically get the feeling that the server thinks we are cheap) - I also get this same feeling when I don't order alcohol (As a person in recovery, it's frustrating when restaurants push alcohol so much!) - I just tend to believe if the server does not think the bill is adding up, the service declines. HOWEVER, this did not happen here. Service was great!
The food was good - but for the price I expected a little bit more. I had the filet and there were way too many strong flavors in the dish - I barely was able to enjoy the taste of the meat. The french onion soup was perfect! My boyfriend had the pork - which he said was a little dry. The price did not match the quality. The experience outweighed the dinner for me.
The parking and location isn't great. Again, with the cost of everything they should provide free and safe parking.
One of the last Supper Clubs. Old fashioned dining with class. Be careful. The waiters "upsell" without telling you there is a cost. "Hi, can I start you off with a nice bottle of mineral water?"
Why, yes! ($7.50 on the eventual bill). Also didn't quote the prices of the specials or the catch of the day, but they did describe them well. We'll go back, but now we'll know what and when to ask.
The food and service was very good. John, the maître d was very personable and our waiter James was great as well. There was no rush to get us in and out. The food selection was very good, a little pricey, but worth it. The only disappointment was one of the specials for dessert, apple cranberry raspberry crisp. Should have gone with the cheesecake.
As always, simply an amazing experience! The ambiance is elegant and the food is excellent. The one thing Wilf's has that no other place does is John, the matre'd. He is amazing! We continually return for dinner not just for the food but so we can visit with John. He makes us feel like we are old friends and he is genuinely happy to see us as well. He is a treasure and a beautiful individual with a big, warm heart. Definitely one of a kind.
The service was very slow and A member of our party was not feeling well so she only ordered a salad. She was then called away from the table by the Manager and told that she had to order a meal because they had a $19 minimum per person. She explained that she wasn't feeling well but he insisted that she order an entrée. It was very uncomfortable and awkward situation. She was forced to order an entrée which she did not even eat. Unbelievable, our entire party was ordering drinks and appetizers and entrées. She should not have been forced to order a meal or else be charged. They also were making their customers pay for the scheduled live music which was $10 per person per hour. Outrageous!
My husband and I enjoyed celebrating my birthday there. My entree, "steak Diane" was delicious. My husband's pasta dish was something we'd never order again. Dessert would be another choice next time too (should've gone for something besides the pumpkin cheesecake which was NOT a great ending to the meal). The service was fantastic though. We would go back again.
We had the French onion soup, Wilf's salad that is mostly crab and shrimp, and the rack of lamb & garlic Scampi.
All were outstanding! The rack of lamb was wonderful and the French onion soup is always the best, as is the service. We always enjoy Wilf's and definitely recommend Wilf's to others.
Amazing on all fronts - atmosphere, service, food, drink, dessert, personal attention, great experience. Live music was a pleasant surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed the band and singers.
Will definitely go back and highly recommend that everyone should experience this 'old Portland' feel.
We found a gem! 800 Wilf's is located adjacent to historic Union Station and has a feeling like you have stepped into another time period with velvet chairs, drapery and tablecloths. The maître d John and waiter Douglas were outstanding. Both were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was outstanding, too, and the wine our waiter suggested was the best I have tasted. This was the perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we will definitely be back. Fresh, local and often organic foods are made into decadently delicious meals. My husband had the sautéed prawns and started with French onion soup. I had the Steak Diane and started with the local green salad. Portions were plenty (not like many gourmet restaurants who provide more décor on your plate than food) and the food was memorable. They have some nights with live music. If you prefer quiet conversation, go on a night without the music or go before it starts. If you enjoy live music, you can check it out from the dining room or get closer in the bar, but there is a cover charge is you just go to the bar ($7, I believe).
Drove from Vancouver (BC) for the Heather Keizur/Steve Christopherson CD event and was delighted by the venue. The performance was top notch and the wait staff extra friendly. The server was even concerned that I had not completed my meal (I was full) which I thought was a nice touch. I didn't notice the signs asking not to use my electronic device in the dining area until a few minutes after arriving, but nobody gave me any grief while I sent off a few texts before I noticed it, and put my phone away.
Would go again, and would happily recommend to friends and family.
The service was top notch and the music was spectacular. The food was okay, but I feel there's room for improvement. I would go back to sit at the bar section and enjoy the musicians with a nice drink. Overall I had a great time celebrating my birthday with friends.
