What a wonderful evening! John, as usual, was attentive, entertaining and informative. My go to place for a very special evening.
Good food, and good service, but Wilf's would not accept my Discover Card.
Great meal, good background music, really good service
The wine list has some of the best of the region, at minimal markup
A must when in Portland!!!
We had a great dinner with our friends. Kind of a celebration and a good time was had by all of us (4 people). Of course, we had the French Onion Soup - - always good. The Pasta with the Vegan Italian Sausage was super and steaks were good, as well. Our server was attentive and gave us everything that we needed.
Great food, great service and wonderful live music.
Great food and beverages. Great server. Great music and wonderful friends to enjoy it with.
The atmosphere in Wilfs takes us back to a time when most long distance travel was by train. Housed at Union Station, train travelers still stop at Wilfs for a drink and/or a meal, but so do locals. My friend and I dined there this time in order to try the Impossible Burger, a vegetarian option that succeeds beyond any veggie burger either of has ever tried. I won't describe it other than to say it's a must-try, even for meat-lovers. We dined at 1 o'clock on an overcast Friday in April, and we had our choice of tables. I have a hearing problem and found the quiet profoundly satisfying. The old-world decor, too, was a comfort in contrast to the "industrial" concrete walls and ceilings of too many "hip" Portland restaurants. I'll be back to Wilfs again and again.
We truly enjoyed our dining experience and we are looking forward to going back.
James was awesome, he took great care if us and sent me home with a special treat.
The service was extremely slow. Took about 10 minutes to just get a drink menu. The food was not the best. Prime rib was tough and selection of wine and champagne was lacking. The live music was awesome!!
High class restaurants like this are getting rare. Located in the train station building it reflects well the golden age of trains. Plus authentic interior, live jazz and classic friendly, knowledgeable service reflects well on the excellent food, plating and relaxing pace. I had the fillet which was better than Ruth Chris's.
Everything was perfect.
My wife and I tried WILF'S Portland-dining-month special (3 courses for $33). The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Kim our server was helpful and attentive without being obtrusive. (It seemed our water glasses and after-dinner coffee were always auto-filled at the half full level.) The setting was elegant and relaxed. We sat in the formal dining but could still enjoy the Jazz singer and accompanist in the lounge. The music added a romantic touch without interfering with our table conversation. In summary a great meal and a great date.
An extraordinary dining experience that harkens back to a different time. Service was personal and highly professional, the food was sumptuous and prepared with skill at table side. The ambiance was intimate and welcoming with live jazz setting the mood.
Easily and unreservedly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy an evening of truly ‘fine’ dining!
3 of the 4 courses were wonderful. The filet was full of gristle. The two waiters were annoying. Interrupting our conversations. Talking loudly at each table. Too interested in themselves not the customer!
John always doesn’t excellent job!
Fabulous dinner with family! Food was outstanding, and tableside flambe was fun. Everyone loved their meals. No kids menus but they easily accommodated our 10 year old with pasta. Its pricey, but there was live music and a tableside magician (he said he is there one night a month) that was amazing. A great place for a special occasion. Wasnt stuffy, we were dressed typical portland diners, parking was easy too. Note that the regular steak diane is good... you dont need the filet they upsell you too.
Really pleasant experience! Great service and nice ambience.
I have long been recommending Wilfs to my friends. Our server, Kim, achieved the right level of attentiveness. John's recommendations for dinner are always wonderful! The Portland Dine out Menu looked so delicious; we plan on returning before the night is through. Dinner here is not cheap, but it is truly fine dining, and we enjoy every moment. Truly an outstanding way to celebrate my birthday, and any other occasion. Thanks for another great night!
We hadn't been to Wilf's in a few years and found everything to be as wonderful as before. I can't think of another restaurant in Portland that's comparable in service, ambience and quality of all menu items.
We love the music at Wilf's. You can reserve a place in the lounge ($10 each for Ron Steen trio) which is the best Jazz you will see in Portland and as good as you will see anywhere. Food, service, atmosphere and drinks are great.
John, the manager, and our waiter, Doug, made this dinner and experience the special night it was for us. Thank you. Wilfs will always be in my top five choices to dine in Portland.
Fantastic service from John!
We were there on a very quiet night, and their old-world ambiance was perfect. Even saw a couple of trains come and go.
Great venue for a business lunch, thank you for the great service.
An evening at Wilf's is always a special occasion!
Waitress was delightful, lighting was marginal, music outstanding, pricing was as expected for good music dining event. Recommend very well, not highly, but a great opportunity to see good music at a comfortable venue with fairly good food!
Food was good but served cold. Server was somewhat attentive.
Classic American dining. Unimpeachable food preparation, textbook attentive service. Great music, spectacular wine list.
Absolutely loved our evening listening to Tom Grant and Shelley Rudolph perform in the bar. We had a front row seat. Great cocktails and burgers - even the vegi burger tasted good!
Enjoyed listening to great live blues music while dining.
Great place. The atmosphere is amazing and the live music is such a great touch! Generally jazz playing, but when we went it was a blues band (Norman Sylvester) and it was awesome. Food is also fantastic. Wife got tableside steak Diane and its fun to watch John prepare it.
We went primarily for the music as well as celebrate Valentines. Great music and good service but food way overpriced definitely not worth it. Special prime rib was tough and potatoes cold and salad drowned in dressing. $39 for an entree worth maybe 1/2 that.
I don't know if it's Wilfs responsibility or Groupon, but I bought the Groupon coupon specifically for Valentine's day, which is what I thougfht the promotional was for in the first place, but after arriving and being seated and reading the fine print at the end or bottom of the menu and finding out that that the Valentine's promotional Groupon coupon would not be honored was a surprise, I spent approx 250.00 for two meals which were definitely absolutely not worth the cost, To be honest, if the food was good or worth it I wouldn't be Complaining but I was and am disappointed, especially when it was for Valentine's ☹☹
Our company depends on reviews for our success so it is with trepidation that I write a negative thing about any company. We had Valentines dinner at your restaurant last week. We realize that it was a special occassion and no doubt busier than your average dinner. Our waiter was not attentive in the least and the meal (in my opinion) was overpriced. The cod was good as was the cheesecake. We like Wilf's and the history behind the Union Station but we both vowed that we probably would not return. It just wasn't a pleasant experience. Sorry, I know you try hard but we felt like beggers all night having to ask for the basics, water, bread, wine etc. in addition to having to flag down our waiter. We were beggers who ended up spending $250 dollars and regretting it I'm afraid. We wish you well and hope that Wilfs will remain a part of the Portland restaurant scene for many years to come.
Terrific service, food and atmosphere
Valentines Day. Food and service were great. Live band was excellent. Ambiance was very nice. The pricing was a little high for what we got, but still a great experience.
Three out of the four meals were great. One of us got a grisly piece of meat and should have sent it back. The ambiance was very old school elegant, but our service was not up to par. We felt rushed all night, definitely not on scale with Ruth Chris, Morton’s or other upscale restaurants in Portland.
They have live jazz Wednesday through Sunday which was s nice feature. Valet parking would be nice. We had to park in a lot across from the train station where homeless were camped, it was a bit sketchy.
I am glad we tried it and if we go again it will be in the summer when it is lighter longer!
