703 bar + kitchen
Our bar features creative craft cocktails, six local beers on a rotating tap, and an extensive wine selection. Bourbon Certified bartenders deliver education and recommendations for both experienced bourbon aficionados and novices alike.
I am not sure I missed it somewhere in Open Table, but I was not aware that this restaurant was inside Marriott until we arrived at the address. The food was tasty but I felt hungry after we left whereas at some restaurants, I only get the entree and I can't even finish it. The wait staff was friendly but seemed a bit overwhelmed even though there weren't many people seated - not sure if they were also responsible for bar patrons as well. It took a long time to get a beer given the number of people and we had to ask a second time for a second beer as I think the wait staff forgot the original request. As hotel restaurants go, it was less expensive than we thought and we did like the taste of the food, just maybe more of it.
The setting of the restaurant is unusual in that it is in a relatively open space in the front of the hotel. At first, we weren't sure that we were in the right place. The variety of dishes on the menu was what attracted us to try the restaurant in the first place and we weren't disappointed. The food was prepared well and had excellent flavors. The dishes were meant to be small, almost tapas style, but the price appropriately reflected that; it was possible to try a number of different dishes at a reasonable price. One waiter was very personable and helpful while another waiter acted as if he couldn't get rid of us soon enough. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be coming back.
Excellent dinner at a little known spot inside the Marriott at Fair Oaks. Very modern take on comfort food and the bar selection, particularly whiskeys was amazing!
Very fresh tasty salads. Caesar was really great as well as the beet salad.
Nice fresh all crab crab cake and salmon.
Restaurant week. Dinner was great! Shared the broccoli, beets, cobia, and salmon. Took the crab cake and short rib to go. “Small” plates are generous.
The food is delicious, and the price is reasonable compared to similar dishes in other restaurants. Definitely will go back in the future
I was very excited about all the gluten free options. It is very hard to find crab cakes and short rib that are Gluten free and they had both. The small plates are actually very generous portions and everything we had was wonderful. While the menu feels upscale it is a casual environment and you can dress up or come in shorts.
August 2019 Restaurant Week - pleasantly surprise at this hidden gem! Dined on 8/16 and the food was delicious for a hotel bar. First impression, upon entering the lobby it was bright, inviting and smelled wonderful! Remind me of hotels/malls in Dubai. Our waiter Colin was engaging and fun to talk to. The menu selection was plentiful and it was nice to learn that it was not created for this occasion only. The plates were advertised as tapas (small) but we didn't notice because the portions were filling for both me and my husband. For starters, we had the biscuits that melt in your mouth w/o the sweet butter spread, Mac & Cheese w/chicken (sauce had a Cajun taste) and beet salad (wonderful flavors), entrée a beef and salmon (cooked perfect, not tough, sliced easily with a fork) and …. drum roll... chocolate pie with cream cheese mouse! Heavenly! D E L I C I O U S! To top it off, the chef came by and shared the dessert was a family recipe. Thanks for sharing! Will definitely come back for the food and try some cocktails. A great place to unwind and get an awesome meal!
We tried this restaurant during Restaurant Week in Fairfax, since we don't usually venture into local hotel restaurants. This was an amazing find! Chef Naim Soued is doing some very creative things with Southern Fare, which we understand is a new introduction to their menu that he has been eager to try. Although the food is presented as 'small plate', the helping are quite generous. The bar carries an excellent assortment of whiskies, particularly bourbans, and some nicely crafted cocktails. Staff was very friendly and enthusiastic, with the perfect level of attention without being intrusive. We will definitely return to sample the bourbons and enjoy the cuisine.
We decided to try Kitchen 703 because of DC Restaurant Week and they did not disappoint. I did not realize Kitchen 703 is in the Marriott hotel steps from Fair Oaks Mall in sight of several run of the mill chain restaurants. Chef Naim Soued is excellent and took the time to come out and meet his guests and talk about his creations. Likewise the entire staff from the greeter to the busboys were all fantastic. Everyone was excited to be part of Restaurant Week and the Marriott team with literally every person helping each other to take orders, refill water, chat with customers, and so Five Stars for Service Above and Beyond is well deserved. What I really appreciated were the options the staff decided to provide for Restaurant Week. At a set price one could chose an appetizer, entree and dessert [standard for Restaurant Week], or any combination to include three of their more expensive entrees. Some restaurants [like Founding Farmers] limit choices based on price, but not Kitchen 703. Additionally, Chef Soued calls them Small Plates, but they were not small and all were delicious. We seriously enjoyed three separate meals from the "small plates" we sampled there and took home for later. Chef Soued's pasta twist on the traditional Cajun Jambalaya was delicious as was his Seared Cajun Cobia, which I paired with truffle buttered risotto that alone was filling and delicious. We also loved his Blackened Sixty South Salmon and the fantastic Red Pepper Chutney Crab Cake paired with grilled broccolini. Delicious! Thank you Kitchen 703 for an outstanding DC/Northern Virginia Restaurant Week experience.
It was perfect. I felt so comfortable the food was impeccable they really went out for restaurant week 2019. Some restaurants do the bare minimum for restaurant week but the chefs at 703 bar and kitchen really showed out and i'm definitely coming back and recommending them to everyone!
I'm surprised I haven't discovered this place sooner. It's hidden inside the Marriott at Fair Oaks. It's not super busy so we got all the attention! Service was good, attentive, and they were super nice. The menu was new for restaurant week and I gotta say it was amazing. The friend chicken and waffles were great, make sure to ask for extra syrup on the side. The crab cake was incredible, the broccoli it sat over was a bit too salty for me. The Jambalaya pasta was just perfect also. All the flavors went well and even though they claim to be small plates, they are pretty big decent size plates. Definitely recommend it and going back!
Excellent. Their Restaurant Week deal cannot be beat!
This was my second time dining and the first time I was blown away and couldn’t wait to return. This time was still good, but not as good as before. We seemed to be a bit forgotten, although it wasn’t busy. Our seating arrangements were a bit awkward (stuffed between two other tables when there were plenty of other empty tables around us?). We sat waiting for water refills twice for a very long time and had to send a dish back twice due to errors in the cooking. Additionally, we waited for a long while after our meal for a to go container. The food was very good and staff were friendly, it just seemed that parts of the experience were awkward and not as well executed as they could have been.
No culinary discoveries, but nice, satisfying fare with attentive service.
Seems that this location never has enough wait staff. There was one waiter for the whole dining area. Our dinner took over 2 hours for one that should have been about an hour. The waiter was very nice, but an over zealous group of young men at another table were beyond loud and became pretty annoying. The disappointing thing about my lobster dinner was that there were no sides ...no salads, rolls, or anything. My husband’s pork dinner was a bit fatty, but plentiful. The menu is fairly sparse for healthy dishes.
The food was outstanding. The salmon was delicious. The steak flavorful and tender . The only set back would be the scallops, although delicious you only get a couple so more like an appetizer then a entree. Not filling so my mother in law had to order something else to go along with it .
Web site was misleading. Picture of oysters on the half shell - not available as only a Mother’s Day brunch was being served. Eggs benedict were over cooked and Cajun Hollandaise was not very flavorful. Fried chicken looked suspiciously undercooked. Amuse bouche was deviled eggs (mine are better). Dessert bar - nothing good. Service was spotty. Drink order took almost 15 minutes. Had to ask for coffee twice. Overall a huge disappointment.
Unfortunately, the service was almost non-existent. But they were overwhelmed the night we went. The hotel had multiple events going on, the bar was packed and they seemed extremely understaffed. On another night our experience would have probably been much better. The food was tasty.
The drinks are FANTASTIC and very well-priced, but I found the food to be disappointing and a little bland.
I made a reservation at 10:30am for the Easter Brunch for my family after seeing this restaurant receiving strong reviews - thought it would be fun to try something new. We were all disappointed by the whole experience. I find their website very misleading: they present the establishment as a modern bistro, but in reality it is actually a vinyl-upholstered Marriott hotel restaurant. They are trying to be adventurous with the menu, but the wait staff is utterly unprepared to answer the most basic questions about the menu. They were offering only a pre fixe menu at roughly $40 @ person including coffee and orange juice (no mimosas or bloody mary's), and then didn't have all the foods prepared (notably the desserts) available for us to enjoy. They offered no apology or discount on our meal, in fact, when I asked about the menu which included dessert options including cheese cake, bread pudding, peach cobbler, etc, the wait staff told us that the reason there were no desserts was because we had come so early. I found this puzzling because we were right on-time with both a typical "brunch", our 10:30 am reservation, and certainly well after their Easter brunch menu and business hours were established. It was really a disappointing experience and I would never go back. We would have been happier at a local diner.
Very unassuming place for the location, very nice greeting and solid service. We were the 2nd table of the night(4of us).
Menu was explained thorough and had alot of options. Steak was tasty but it jad that vein in it. Salmon was over-cooked, out of a few desserts.
Hansel is awesome at the bar! The food is superb, as usual. We will so be back.
Restaurant with potential. Unfortunately, part of the food was precooked and reheated. A big minus despite the creativity of flavor choices. Therefore disappointing experience
Food was amazing! Our server was Anthony and he was one of the best I've had. Smart, funny and informative. Definitely recommend and will return soon!
Service was great and food was delicious. My wife and I shared the lobster risotto, mac and cheese and the salmon. We were pleased with all three dishes. The complimentary bread was amazing and the beverage selection was exceptional. My wife ordered a peach martini and I ordered one of the bourbon flights. Would definitely recommend to friends.
Our daughter suggested this restaurant for a weekend dinner. Everyone was pleasantly surprised. I had a peach vodka martini. Never having this drink before, I can't compare it, but it was delicious.
My husband was amazed with all the whiskey offerings. The bartender is quite knowledgeable. Now my husband is thinking of suggesting this venue for an afterwork gettogether.
The food is served in small plates, half-sized, and full size dishes. If you have a smaller appetite, that is nice to know.
Our daughter had the burger and fries. She thoroughly enjoyed it and had enough food to take home for another meal. I had the Caesar salad and lobster risotto. My husband had the tagliatelle.
Although I can not have chocolate for dessert at dinner, do have the ice cream. It is delicious with sorbet and ice cream available in many flavors.
Food creatively prepared. Varied selection to suit all tastes. Our server was outstanding!
Hi Bluebell, Thank you for visiting the 703 bar + kitchen and for your review. We look forward to seeing you again soon! We still have reservations available for Valentine's Day! Kind Regards, Allison Strunk General Manager
Absolutely loved the food tried about everything and the service was great!! Our waitress was very attentive! Would recommend and go back!
We wouldn’t normally go to a hotel bar for a date night, but I’m so glad we did!! The food was IMPECCABLE and restaurant week made it that much more worth it. The server was very friendly and we had a really nice date night experience. Every course we had kept getting better! We loved the scallops, lobster risotto (there was actually a TON of lobster in it!), ribeye steak, and tagliatelle pasta. The warm brownie a la mode was also amazing. We will definitely be returning!! 😊
Thanks food was delicious but the portions we're tiny even for being small plates. The drinks were good so please note the bartender knows what they are doing. I just felt the meal was very over priced for the quality/quantity of food. The Brisket sandwich was delicious and filling though. I really would not recommend for any sort of special event as it's more a fancy hotel bar than a fine restaurant.
Food was horrible. Went for breakfast Christmas morning. Buffet was cold. Ordered from the menu. Order was wrong. What did come to the table was not good. Left and ate at Starbucks!!
Surprisingly good bourbon and whiskey selection.
703 continues to impress. Flavorful renditions of Southern favorites made with local ingredients and finished with the chef's unique touch. It's not a cheap meal or a quick meal, but it's a very good meal.
Quiet restaurant with great food
The Service was AMAZING, thank you Tony! The Brussels Sprouts were fantastic, the Beet salad was good, though it was a bit light on the goat cheese and our was missing the acid, the squash mac and cheese was delightful, the bologanse was tasty, the oysters were good. We would suggest avoiding the the scallops; while they were impressively large, they were gritty, seared poorly, and on a bed of sauteed spinach and roasted squash that did not go pair flavor wise or textually with scallops. Also, the skin on the salmon was disappointing. All that said, the real problem is the restaurant's location; it is located on the first floor of a hotel, in the parking lot of a decrepit looking mall. It is really strange to take a date to a hotel for dinner.... Other than that, it was a very good dining experience and we suggest people give this place a shot!
This restaurant, with very good food, very good drinks, and very good service, is smack in the middle of a hotel lobby. It was highly reviewed on Yelp, so we went for a belated birthday dinner, only to be surrounded by a high school reunion as well as actual high schoolers. The chef, bartender, and wait staff should all decamp en masse to somewhere without florescent lighting and literal busloads of tourists.
We were looking for a late night option for our date night. Every item we were ordered was fantastic! Our server was great. My husband enjoyed his cocktail. We will definitely be back soon.
My husband & I were in the area because he was having minor surgery at Inova Fair Oaks. I decided it would be best to spend the night & made a reservation at the Marriott. After reading the rave reviews online about 703, we decided why go elsewhere, especially since it was so convenient. It happened to be Restaurant Week, so they were charging a special price for the small plates-3 plates for $35. We opted for that & were very glad we did since we were able to share among the 6 plates. The chef came out & brought homemade tater tots with fish roe on top & the best buttermilk biscuits I think we have ever had! All the food was amazing & the combinations were well thought out.
I must also mention that the wait staff was well-trained & helpful. We had a very engaging server named Cristian who just added to our enjoyment.
We would not hesitate to eat there again if we happen to be in the area.
