Delicious meal and excellent value with multiple amuse-bouches between courses. Our server, Eric, was fantastic. Highly recommend.
I have rarely had such nuanced, skilled service, and the food was creative and intersting without being fussy. Yes, it is pricey, but for Times Square there aren’t really many good fine dining options (the Charlie Palmer at the Knick is mot even close to this place). A beautiful room and a lot of extras thrown in including a pre-drink at the bar (which I dubbed an “amuse booze”). Our server Karen managed the perfect balance of formal but friendly, instructive bur neither overly familiar nor stuffy. She suggested some wines by that glass that were part of the wine pairings but not on the by the glass menu, which were a big improvement. The only tone deaf note was a cocktail with Don Julio 1942 tequila. Putting tequila that good into a mixed drink is an abomination, but, hey, it is Times Square and if some idiot wants to order a $60 cocktail, I am fine with the restaurant taking their money.
The atmosphere, food and service were exceptional. A true culinary experience!! But be prepared for the check...I was a bit surprised when I asked the sommelier for another glass of red wine to accompany my desserts...and it was $43.00!!! Delicious but I've never spent so much on a glass of wine!!!
All said....I will still go back for another exceptional dining experience!
Fantastic food, attentive service; a great experience
This is the second time that I have had dinner at 701West, and it did not disappoint. From start to finish, it is a true dining experience with incredible food!
Chef John Fraser delivers once again. As a longtime fan of his now-closed Dovetail restaurant, I was excited to try the new place. 701 West exceeded expectations. The food is sublime. The service was impeccable. Surely 701 West will earn Chef Fraser another Michelin star.
701 West offers an elegant setting with an attentive staff and a menu that is exciting and interesting. The portions are standard for fine dining and absolutely delicious including the cocktails. Can't wait to go back!
Outstanding in food, service, ambiance all in Times Square. An perfect oasis.
Wow! Just exceptional! We were seated on time for our 5:30 reservation celebrating my wife’s birthday. We walked past the well stocked bar into the restaurant which was beautifully adorned with blue plush seats and exquisite Brazilian rosewood millwork. The service was exceptional and we were treated like royalty. From the minute we sat down we felt the attention. Everything that was served on our table was so delicious. I had the wine pairing so I got to taste multiple wines that complimented my food. I had the blue fin tuna appetizer and it was amazing. Just melted in your mouth. I had the salmon which was also delicious. The rolls with the salt were to die for. The in between dishes were also great. I had four glasses of wine which were selected by the sommelier. Enjoyed each one! The desserts were chocolatety and I needed the extra sugar to keep me awake for the broadway show. I had the Cappuccino and a dessert wine too.
What a great meal. Will be back.
A most appealing restaurant in a dreadful Slimes Square neighborhood, once you can find it. No one at desk when you arrive on my three visits. No signage indicting the restaurant's location or to tell you the lobby is on the tenth floor after which you have to find someone to use their key to get you to the restaurant on the eleventh, again with no signage. The website mimics these challenges in its difficulty of finding information. All these quibbles pass when you finally arrive. Persistence is rewarded. Bar is quite comfortable. Prix fixe menu offers a decent amount of choices. Appetizer standout was the bluefin tuna. Of the mains, the duck breast was outstanding, the nearly naked fluke fillet a loser and the beefiness of the lobster on second acquaintance less interesting. Splendid amuses accompany the meal as does a mystery wine in a black glass, two much appreciated gestures. Desserts were generally overwrought, more effort seeming to go into their construction rather than taste. Should have mentioned a terrific roll. Wine list is humorous(to keep from crying). Many selections at 500-700% markup-a gouge even by the city's usual brutality. Diligent searching can find a good bottle in the mere 300-400% range. Look forward to trying things on the menu we've only noticed.
My first time here. This restaurant is in the 11th floor of the Edicion hotel. Although the address is 701 7 th Ave, the hotel entrance us on W 47 th st.
Once u arrive on the 11th floor ( 2 different elevators) the hostess podium us next to the elevator door. The dining room is very attractively furnished. Although there is a very well rounded wine list, I opted for the wine pairing. The dinner menu is all prix fixe. @ $98/3 courses. There are several choices for each course. If u get the wine pairing, you also get a glass of the sommelier’s choice with the amuse! Last night’s was sturgeon caviar, delicious! The wine was a very young fruity Chardonnay. For my first course I had the roasted foie gras with poached apple, paired with a glass of calvados. For my main course I had to find out what the Broiled Lobster in ages beef fat was all about. What a succulent surprise of flavors! The lobster is completely shelled and sliced, served with ratatouille of mini vegetables, cooked al dente. The lobster is glazed with a light beurre blanc, melts in your mouth. This was served with a blanc de mainne, white burgundy. And for my final course, I had the cheese plate with a glass of port. The cheese trolly had 6 very interesting choices, including a Tennessee blue wrapped in a bourbon infused rind . I selected 3 . Chef Fraser tuns a hidden gem of a restaurant ! Can’t wait to return.
Perfect in every way!
What a fabulous surprise. I expected a decent meal but the food and service were truly outstanding! Emma our sommelier/waitress made the experience really special. Try this gem in Times Square.
The multi-course meal we had here ranks with the all the multi-course meals we have had at any of the highly-ranked Manhattan restaurants (11 Madison, Per Se, Atera, etc.) And a steal at twice the price!
A true NYC exquisite experience. Does not get any better than 701WEST!
Great food, service and ambiance n
Creative cuisine, much more classy and elegant than almost anywhere close to Times Square and the Theater District.
Ten stories up from Times Square, there is an oasis of tranquility and refinement. The food is superb (and yes pricey), the wine list excellent ( and yes pricey). It is the perfect place for a refined dinner before a Broadway show. I do believe I have found a new favorite restaurant in NYC.
Samatha took fantastic care of me and her wine pairings were amazing.
A wonderful place for celebrations. An exclusive ambiance with flawless service and food. Thank you for making us feel special.
Great Restaurant - all the way around. You must go!
Birthday dinner. We did the price fixe with paired wines. There were also several amuse bouche courses. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The wines were well matched, although we would have preferred a slightly different wine with the duck course. The server suggested dessert on the deck/patio since it was a beautiful night. They made me a lovely tiny gilded chocolate birthday cake. There were not many diners on a Saturday night. It is a very expensive restaurant and the end of August.
Without a doubt my top 5 meals of 2019. I cannot wait to return. This was a flawless experience from start to end. The food, cocktails, service, ambiance....all outstanding. So glad NYC still has John Fraser cooking for us. Thanks you all. Barney Gallassio
701 West provided the perfect balance of service, atmosphere, quality and fresh takes on the food choices.
From the check staff, to the servers and table attendants, to the food manager the team made for an exceptional experience.
One which will be locked input memory as positive one. We were celebrating and commiserating our only daughter going to college and this was the perfect happy memory.
Exceptional on every regard.
We visited the establishment for a 30th birthday celebration. From the moment we entered to when we left the staff were friendly, professional; whilst also well trained on the food and wine served making the experience excellent.
The three-course meal was a terrific value at $98/person. Beautiful setting, excellent and entertaining service, great food.
This place is a GEM ! From start to finish, one of the best tasting menu-wine pairing experiences in the city and at a great value. Bravo to the Edition team !
This is a superb dining experience! The food is wonderful, the captains are also the sommeliers and very knowledgeable. Service is what you would expect in a multiple star restaurant. A real find--go there!
Outstanding food, beautiful space.
Incredible experience. Highly recommend!
Our pre-theatre dinner experience was wonderful. We had a 7:00 p.m. curtain, told them we needed to be out by 6:30, and they accommodated our request without making us feel rushed. The food was creative, beautifully prepared and beautifully presented. Our waiter, Samantha, was incredible; she really knows her stuff...from the wines and pairings to the ingredients of each dish. We were very impressed with her expertise. This is our new go-to for the theatre district. Everything about it was classically great in a lush, contemporary setting.
Excellent dining experience with great service and fantastic food!!
Wine pairing was an absolute delight
Great food & service. Several amuse bouchee was unexpected. Cheese cake was devine!
My favorite new restaurant. It is odd to see a fine dining restaurant in the heart of the theater district, but now there is one right next to Duffy Square. This is not a pre theater spot. it is a destination in and of itself.
The menu here changes all the time. A three star New York Times review from less than a month ago only had two dishes that were singled out remaining on the menu. The replacements were wonderful. Particularly good were the asparagus, the lamb (both in the NYT review). The sea urchin and salmon entrée were excellent, as was the chocolate and corn desserts. Service is outstanding.
The pre fixe for three courses is $98 and an extra $70 for the wine paring which is worth it. They serve some interesting wines nicely paired with each dish for each person. The wine list is strong, but pricy. There is an interesting selection of cocktails too.
Compared to Tak Room where we had dinner the night before the $98 three course pre fixe was a real bargain compared to the $85 entrees at Tak.
Excellent from beginning to end!
This is a new gem in the world of New York City restaurants. The Edition Hotel is a beautifully appointed setting for this dining destination - the food is creative and delicious, well presented by a cordial, well-trained, knowledgeable, professional team. The prix fixe three course menu for dinner is reasonably priced considering what you get. The dinner rolls were wonderful. The champagne trolley has an excellent selection. Our party of five tried most of the items on the menu and none of them disappointed!
This is easily one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at in New York. I’ll refrain from direct comparisons to other establishments, but this is a three-star restaurant that will mature into a four-star establishment. Go, before it becomes so well-regarded that reservations become impossible. And I hope reservations DO become a challenge: 701West should be a major player in the fine-dining scene in NY. It IS that good. The staff is wonderful, and their knowledge of wine is terrific. The food, which is the principal reason for a restaurant to exist, is excellent: the scallop was fantastic, perfectly cooked and seasoned; the guinea hen was brilliant; dessert was perfect. And the various intermediate courses were also wonderful. Again, just go!
Your team was so gracious and attentive with every step. The food and drink were spectacular and thoughtfully constructive; you could taste the level of detail in every bite and sip. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and want to thank you for making this birthday celebration so special.
