New Year’s Eve
My first time on New Year's Eve and it was amazing! The customer service was beyond expectations. The music and food were on point!
So sad it is closing
So sad that 701 is closing. This has been a "go to" spot for many years.
We had a very enjoyable meal for our anniversary. It was a day between Christmas and New Year's so it wasn't very crowded. The menu selections were varied and the service was great!
2 of our 3 entrees were excellent. The third was cold and even after they warmed it, wasn’t very interesting. They were gracious and took care of it.
701 is always a class act. My husband and I have been going there for special occasions for years, and our Christmas Eve dinner there this year did not disappoint. As always, the ambiance (lighting, decor, spacing of the tables, background music) was delightful. The feeling was intimate, yet festive. They had a special 3-course, $60 menu for the holiday. The menu selections were very nice, and all the dishes we ordered were delicious. The service was also excellent -- friendly and attentive without being overly intrusive.
A lovely evening at 701. The piano player was wonderful and contributed to the quiet and sophisticated ambiance. Loved the food and appreciated that the chef was willing to create a vegetarian entree for me. Only one complaint: the bread was a tad stale.
Good food but a bit pricey for everyday dining.
We were seated in the small room which made conversation very doable(we were there for pre theater dining). They did an excellent job of getting us in and out without feeling rushed. We were celebrating three birthdays and they did a nice job with that. Our salads were excellent very fresh, our entrees were good- although the sauce for the swordfish was over powering. The aglotte were perfect. Dessert very good. Service was lovely.
Always excellent service. They are especially professional with my friends with disabilities.
We've been to 701 many times before, and we keep coming back because of the consistency in service, food, and atmosphere. We highly recommend to anyone, for any occasion.
A repeat of many past good meals in a quiet setting with great service. Of all the good restaurant options in the Penn Quarter area, 701 aces it for the needed combo of tasty food and truly nice venue.
We attended the Restaurant for a girls night out where we could get a little dressy. Our waitress was very inattentive and we had to ask for the manager on several occasions. One of the members of our party had to send their steak back 3 times because they kept re-delivering a rare steak rather than medium as requested. Further when the check came our waitress charged us for the wrong value for 2 of our meals. We were very disappointed in our service and the food (2 of the 4 had stomach issues the rest of the evening).
Lunch with friends close to National
Gallery. High rating fir location but : the pasta - agnolotti with pesto was ordinary and lukewarm to boot. A warm apple bread pudding with creme anglaise was indeed hot but a little low on apples. 701 prides itself on being a restaurant worthy of a special occasion but this lunch did not live up to expectation. Lunch for 3 with a glass of wine each, pasta for three one dessert to and two coffees was 150 with tip.
I have been coming to 701 for almost as long as they have been open.
Always consistent and it is nice to be able to hold a conversation without shouting.
We were there for pre-theater dinner. Never disappoints with delicious food, good value, lovely ambiance with live music, and efficient/pleasant service.
Excellent service and delicious food. Our party had the rabbit, the New York Strip, and the Bronzino. We were all extremely happy with our selections. Also sampled the desserts of pumpkin cheesecake, carrot cake, and apple bake. All delicious! Highly recommend!
Another superb evening meal at 701. Great food, wine, and service. Our server Naji was superbly professional. The live combo added to the ambiance.
Quite enjoyed this restaurant. Very nice room decor and use of sound absorbing materials. Was able to speak in a conversational voice and be easily understood. Service was good. Food was good. Pre theater fixed price menu had great choices. We will definitely return. Did not hurt that there was a jazz duo which played great tunes at a reasonable volume so conversation could continue.
They may have new kitchen help, because my salad was not served cold, nor was the salad plate cold, as is usually true in upscale restaurants, where attention to detail is practiced.
The steak had much too much fat and gristle for a steak costing $38. Again, lack of attention to detail, as the steak was sliced thinly, so it should have been obvious to a chef who cared about the quality of guest experiences.
I used to be quite pleased with my dining experiences at 701, and this was my first disappointing visit, so will give it one more try.
I have always liked this place. It is elegant, quiet and has very good food. Although it seldom makes the "hot" list, I still find it an excellent place to have dinner. It has white table cloths, servers that are dressed appropriately and food that I do not need my smart phone to understand. The food it very good and nicely presented. It is quiet enough that I can hear my friend speak. We took a long time to catch up on a Friday evening and no one rushed us. I highly recommend this restaurant.
701 continues to be a joy.
The staff, the ambience, and of course, the food. Are all delightful. Strongly recommend. Thanks
Food excellent. Restaurant half empty!
I enjoyed 701 on a Saturday night. We had steak, a pasta, desserts. All were good. My soup was okay, not great. They have a nice wine selection and offer early deals for theatre goers.
great food in a nice setting. Fairly limited menu but all selections looked good. Service was non-intrusive.
Client dinner that was impressive with creative menu, excellent service and atmosphere! Hidden gem
Food was great and reasonably priced, but the wine menu seemed a bit pricy.
We always receive excellent service, and all employees go out of their way to make the experience enjoyable for my friend with disabilities.
the wait staff were all professional, courteous and attentive. food was well prepared and delicious. the portion size as you may often find at higher level restaurants was to small for my taste but I knew that coming in. I would recommend 701 for couples, business meetings and special occasions.
Food quality was very ordinary and tasted like institutional cafeteria food.
701 was fantastic, excellent food, excellent service, live music is awesome and blissful. The owner is very nice and the chef is amazing.
The entire eve night was very nice. Perfect price fixe for Thanksgiving. However, it took a long time to get the dessert and for the check to come.
We went there for a nice Thanksgiving dinner while on vacation. What I got was a stove top dressing with process (round) piece of turkey meat. The guy that clean our table was nicer. My husband and I always split meals. When we informed the waiter that we would be sharing you could see the distaste on his face. When we did get our meal that simply place the plate in the middle of the table and walked off!! The waiter never came around to check on us and had to ask for our check!! I would never recommend this place.
Limited but excellent seasonal focused menu. Delicious food/recipes but over-salted.
Back to lunch with a friend for the usual elegant quiet venue and very tasty food. Were some hiccups in service this time which was MOST unusual.
Excellent restaurant near the Navy Memorial. Great service, romantic location and ambiance for my date night and delicious food. I plan to return. Five stars!
We were a group of 8 "older women at lunch and were treated royally. We were given a cozy alcove, perfect for conversation. From making the reservation, handling special requests and through to the finish, the staff was gracious and very accommodating. It was hard to choose from all the delicious-sounding offerings on the menu. I had the tuna burger, which was excellent, very juicy and tasty. Others enjoyed the crab roll and salads. One of our shared desserts was absolutely out-of-this-world. I don't remember the name but it was a chocolate bar with bananas on top next to a scoop of banana ice cream. I'm not a big chocolate fan but will definitely order that the next time I go.
The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable, and funny! The Cavatelli was amazing, would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent pasta dish. Will definitely come back!
Have been here several times and the food is excellent. The big bonus with this restaurant is that it is one of the *quietest* in D.C. So if you are coming for a working meeting, conversation with your friends, or just some quiet contemplation -- rather than blaring music or roaring crowd noise -- this is the place!
On this particular visit, we unfortunately had multiple problems with the service. Not something I've experienced before. Several things forgotten, late to the table, etc. However, the wait staff and management were committed to making sure we were fully satisfied and fairly treated by the end of the evening. For that reason, I would still recommend this restaurant, because the quality of the food and quiet ambiance, at a reasonable price, are difficult to find anywhere else in the city.
