5Church Charlotte Ratings and Reviews
Not Impress. Went there for a Valentine's dinner; we ask for some bread - the waiter said they have pita and hummus; then return later and said that they don't have it today due to it being Valentines' day. Wouldn't it be more important to have better service on the busy day when most people are trying you out?
Additionally, the chicken we ordered was dry and my "medium" steak was almost well done. Not impress. Would not recommend to anyone.
After we sat down... we were quickly greeted but it took over 20 minutes to get our cocktails served to us. The place wasn’t too busy at 7pm on a Saturday and never understood why the drinks too so long? The appetizer (lobster) and entrées (filet mignon and tuna) had small portions and left us hungry after dessert. Overall, nothing too exciting to report but we wanted to see how the Charleston 5Church compared to the CLT restaurant and it was a disappointment. The service, food portions, and culinary experience was much higher in Chucktown versus the Queen City and this from a couple who’ from California.
My wife and I ate at 5Church before we attended the Andrea Bocelli concert. Very cozy and the food was amazing. Our server was very attentive and polite. A little noisy at times but in no way takes away from the incredible dinner we had. Will most likely be back the next time we are in Charlotte for a show.
We were visiting from out of town and stayed overnight at the adjacent hotel, The Ivey's. 5Church provides food service to the hotel as well as to their private dining guests. It was a very busy night as there was a notable performer at The Spectrum. Service was a bit slow but they brought a free appetizer and apologized for the delay. There was a bit of a hiccup with the meal plan we purchased through the hotel and what 5Church provided. In the end, we were able to reach an agreement and we had an enjoyable meal. It was very loud and the music is loud too. Definitely energetic and the food is pretty good too. The location was very convenient for us as we had a tight schedule that evening.
The pre-meal hummus was great. The appetizer course, tuna tartare and Octopus was tasty but a bit spare. The Tuna entree I had was really small and over dressed with sauce and garnish to the point I could barely taste what little tuna was on the plate. By comparison one member of our party had the lamb shank with greens, etc. on their plate and this entree was enormous.
Service was prompt courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. I have been here a few times and will definitely be back.
Everything from the specialty cocktails to the delicious food to the great service made this night one to remember. We tried several of the daily specials, which were well worth the cost. Our server was attentive and very helpful with our selections. We will be back!
I'd heard so much hype about this place, I thought restaurant week would be a good time to try it out-$35.00 for 3 courses. 3 choices on 1st course. I had the beet salad- 2 pcs of lettuce, a small beet (about like a golf ball) and if there was any dressing on it, I couldn't tell. Next course, 5 choices, 2 of which had an upcharge. I had scallops-$10 upcharge. 4 scallops lost on the plate with a bit of shaved apple on top. Last course, a brownie with a little bit of crushed pretzel on the side. I also had the wine pour- 4 0z. with each course- a total of 12 oz- $16. $61.00 total and that was supposed to be some kind of deal. What a joke. I seriously didn't have enough to eat and I am 5 feet tall, 100 lbs. Never going back. I felt bad that my husband even had to pay for it. If you're looking for ambiance, they are lacking that too. The table are literally card tables with a black table cloth thrown across them.
We chose 5Church for Restaurant Week based on it’s great rating in the top 20 restaurants. They only offered one Riesling wine on their menu but were out of it the night we came. Our waiter was attentive but soft spoken so we had to have him repeat often. The 2 menu items of interest we had seen on the Restaurant Week webpage actually had additional charges to them. We have NEVER seen that before. The ambiance was nice as was the staff. Just not what we expected from the ratings.
They were really busy and it was Restaurant Week, but the service was poor in general. I had a reservation at 8:30 for 4 people. We got there an hour early and had mediocre drinks at the bar. We were not seated until after 9:15. Shout-out to our server who was very friendly and very helpful.
Was so excited to try this restaurant and was so disappointed. Serving size was ridiculously small, my meal was not as described. I paid the uucharge during Queens Feast for the scallop dish. I ended up paying for 4 scallops drizzled with a sauce, nothing else on the plate. Waiter never asked how food was. Our party of 4 left hungry and we stopped for something to eat after leaving.
Went for the first time during restaurant week and was excited to taste what this Top Chef had to offer... Restaurant was SUPER busy; got the feeling this was much busier than usual but generally a good sign. Ordered off the restaurant week menu. Beet salad was just ok - it was missing something, maybe some acid. Also might have been better to have smaller pieces of Boursin instead of one big hunk. We inquired if there was bread for the table and the waiter said they don’t do it during restaurant week due to high volume. My thought was wouldn’t you want to pull out all the stops to make repeat customers outside of RW? Filet came out and we were asked to cut into the center of the steak to check temperature that we ordered. It was so dark in the restaurant though that we couldn’t see and the gentleman had to use the flashlight on his phone so we could see. Both steaks were under and we were asked to put the steaks on the bread plates that we obviously didn’t use so they could be transferred back to the grill. I will say that when the steaks did come back to the table they were very tasty and good quality. The accompaniments were great (crushed potatoes & Brussels) but the confit onion was like a ball of vinegar - didn’t hate it but was super sour. I would have expected however that one or both of the supplement charges for the filet would have been removed from the bill given the inconvenience. Desserts selected were the S’mores & milk chocolate pretzel bar. Loved the s’mores bar but lost the graham element since the crumble was more of a garnish; would have liked graham crust on the bottom. The pretzel bar was too hard on the bottom to easily cut thru but was very rich and smooth; thought this would have been better as small bite size pieces. Overall - I liked 5Church and can see myself potentially going back.
We visited 5Church for restaurant week, our food was amazing. The manager came over several times and checked on us, he even suggested a lounge for drinks that we went to afterwards. My only reason for not giving 5 stars was my server. He was okay but not outstanding. It was clear we we were not at the top of his priority list. I would probably go back just hoping for a little more attentive server next time
