5Church Charlotte Ratings and Reviews
We went here for Sunday Brunch. Our only complaint was the coffee was luke warm when served. We told our waitress & she poured a second cup for each of us out of a carafe & the temp was the same. Obviously, we weren’t going to get hot coffee. The wild mushroom omelet & the crab cake benedict were tasty.
I rarely leave 1 star reviews. This is my first review on Open Table and sadly induced by the exceedingly poor service at this restaurant that then doubled down and let OT know that I did not show for my reservation time. SHAME on you. I was on time and you had me on a 30 plus delay because you cannot manage your reservations on a football sunday!!! See my full reviews on Yelp and Tripadvisor for this mess.
This was a very disappointing experience, especially as I have been to 5 Church on many occasions previously and have had good food and good service. This experience was the exact opposite. We arrived on time for our 12:15 lunch appointment with our party of 12, which we had reserved the previous week, so the restaurant management and staff had plenty of time to prepare. They didn't have our table ready, but quickly pushed tables together. There were only two other tables of guests throughout the lunchtime (2 people at each table). The waitress took quite a bit of time to get orders for water and then orders for drinks, but finally took our food orders at 12:30. We didn't see her for the next 30 minutes, and at that point I became concerned that we might be late getting back for a meeting in the office at 2:00, and so waited until I saw the waitress to wave her over. As she approached, she had a smirk on her face and an obvious attitude, even though this would be the first time that I had asked her to tell us when our food was coming out. She made no apology and expressed no concern, telling me only that the chef was plating our dishes to make sure everything was perfect. That couldn't have been further from the truth. My steakburger was medium well and my colleagues was raw, even though we had both ordered medium-rare/medium. When hers went back to the kitchen, it took another 15 minutes for it to come out again. One colleague who had ordered a steak waited an additional 5-10 minutes for it, and when it arrived it was not a good piece of meat and was not well-prepared. Side dishes also arrived late. Everyone reported that at best their food was "okay" which is not what I expect from a restaurant like 5 Church. The manager made one brief appearance, but was otherwise not out in the restaurant, and so either didn't know what was going on, or didn't care. Either way, we had a very bad experience and I will not go back anytime in the near future.
We had a confirmed noon reservation and weren’t seated until 12:40. The hostess apologized and said she would comp us appetizers, but no one ever did that. We didn’t receive our food until 1:25 and my daughters food didn’t arrive until fifteen minutes after everyone else’s did. I talked to the staff about the length of time our order was taking but no one made any effort to make up for our awful experience. The food was actually good, but I was really embarrassed that I brought our guests to a place with such terrible service.
Thanks so much for making my birthday extra special! Great food and great service! We will definitely be back. There were 4 of us celebrating my birthday. We had 3 apps, squash soup, octopus and meatballs. All 3 were amazing! Everyone but me had the steak, I had the chicken. Everything was amazing! We ordered 4 desserts, all delicious and rich but light at the same time. Overall experience was superb!
Went for Thanskgiving dinner, offered price fix menu only which was fine, figured the kitchen was specializing in 5 main dishes, must be on point. Scallops were OK - could tell by the over done ness had been sitting for at bit, and the overall dish was lacking in size and flavor. The fillet was plentiful with side dishes, although you paid for that in the $8 up charge. Love the overall ambiance of the place though and will return to try regular menu and / or brunch!
Had Thanksgiving dinner there. Fixed price 3 course menu with turkey, ham, and non- traditional choices like scallops and filet of ribeye for those like me who weren't turkey fans. Ginger squash soup starter was one that you'd have liked to lick the bowl for if you weren't in a restaurant and the apple cranberry cobbler with ice cream on top was piping hot and delicious. Overall great time and the service was gracious and very quick. Will go back for a regular menu dinner some evening.
Overall great restaurant but for thanksgiving it was very hectic. This host wasn’t friendly and didn’t even acknowledge our group so that was a bummer. Our server was super busy but nice. The managers made us feel welcome just by coming by to say hi to our table so that was awesome. I recommend this place for a date night for sure.
The food was just all right. I was told that the trifix would be $40 per person but it was 45. I also thought we would have choices in each category but we only had a choice for entree. The food was good but not great. I did like the optional wine pairing with each course and it was a good deal.
The service was great this Sunday, we had a table for 10 and the server Brittany was amazing and patient and kind. They kept our cake in the refrigerator, and kept our balloons out the way. The cocktail Orgeat was very tasty. I will be returning for the modern trendy atmosphere and brunch, and now that I've had dinner, ill be returning for that as well. Thank you for making our birthday celebration special.
Considering they do brunch every weekend, we were surprised that they ran out of coffee cups and it took 20 minutes to get our coffee. One of our meals came out cold. Was also disappointed that despite making a reservation, we were seated in the bar close to the cold air of the door. I have had a good experience here at happy hour previously, but not sure I would recommend it for brunch.
We made a reservation for 9:15, but we weren't seated until after 10:15. Our waiter was very professional, and he did remove a round of drinks from our bill as an apology for the delay, but the experience was still very frustrating. We had planned a night around the reservation, and the delay kind of wrecked our plans. More communication would have been nice.
overall, I liked the restaurant's decor and feel. Certain parts of the menu didn't appeal to me (other than the 4 steak options), I felt the menu was light and limited in value. With that being said, it's hard to find lamb (especially lamb that falls off the bone). Hummus was a better appetizer than the octopus or other options. It lost a star when I discovered a bug in my drink. Taste of drinks was decent although not my style for value.
Service was outstanding. It has potential but the menu just wasn't a hit that evening.
Moderate plus pricing but ver good food. Saturday before Halloween so place was crowded and very lively.
Service was good, without feeling of being rushed.
Eclectic wine list with prices for bottles from forty to a thousand dollars.
Nice location to walk around uptown from.
Food was good, but I've had better versions of everything we got at other places.
Starters we got beet & goat cheese salad and the meatballs. Both were good, the meatballs were a bit more tough than expected.
Entree, I got the chicken with crispy skin which was cooked really well. The flavors were all great, but it lacked that quality chicken taste that I've only gotten at a handful of restaurants. Overall though was very happy.
Sides were a bit disappointing. Having just been to the 5church in Charleston, I assumed the fries would be the same, but sadly they were of a lesser quality. The ones in Charleston were basically fry shaped crack. The brussels were only lightly sauteed, as listed on the menu, but I think it would have been better to roast them and get a bit of char on them. They also didn't provide spoons for the brussels, making it a bit hard to collect them from the share plate.
Ambiance was nice and hip and overall I enjoyed my experience. I'm only so negative on the food, because I want them to do better.
great service - I was dining alone pre-theatre matinee. Nice brunch menu but found my entree to be bland- crab cakes with a poached egg and a jalapeño sauce - and if I did not know - there was NO jalapeño flavor at all. Inexpensive mimosas - juice colored but mostly bubbly. It seems the ideas were there but no real flavor punch to anything
Chose the restaurant from a Zagat list of best restaurants in Uptown. Overall the service was the best part of the experience. What that chef did to my $43 fillet was beyond unacceptable. It's a steak for goodness sake!! If you can't cook a simple butterfly steak you are in the wrong business!!! It was unrecognizable when it arrived in addition to being dry, and salty. It came with this side of horrible bowl "sauce" not sure what it was for and these horrible potatoes that had a weird twang to them. This was one of the worst meals I have had in a long, long time.
