5Church Charlotte Ratings and Reviews
Since mid-2017 my wife and I have been trying a new Charlotte area restaurant for lunch every Saturday. We had heard a lot of good things about 5 Church. The food and the service did not disappoint. For some reason, they were not offering their normal lunch menu, but rather had a brunch menu. My wife had the crab cakes which were very, very good. I had the chicken salad sandwich which was also delicious. The restaurant has a very cool vibe. Our only complaint was that our seat in the back right corner of the restaurant was very drafty and even cold. In fact, my wife and I both had to leave our coats on the whole lunch. It was very cold and windy outside that day, so maybe this was very unusual. But it did damper our enthusiasm for the restaurant. I think we will give it a try again, but probably for dinner for a special occasion.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in town so I was super excited when I made reservations for NYE. However, I was never told that it was a pre selected menu or set price so I was quite disappointed at the menu when we sat down. For $80 a plate, I would have expected a little more variety. When the manager for the evening came over, not much was done/said and he didn’t really look like he cared. Waitress was great and food was okay. Overall unimpressed for a NYE special.
My family stopped here for Saturday brunch before a show at Blumenthal. As always, the service was great, brunch choices varied and they get you served quickly so you can get to your show. Three of us had the Irish breakfast and my son had a lamb burger all of which were delicious. They also serve $3 mimosas for brunch. We will go back here again next time we are in Charlotte for a show.
Worst waitor ever. It took 20 minutes to place a drink order as we watched him chat away with a waitress. In fact that was the biggest problem! Then 15 minutes to get drinks and more time to place our dinner order. It wasn’t that busy but even than we would always see or waitor chatting away with another one. Also several times we would ask him for something then he would come back and say I’m sorfy what did you say you wanted?? Early on my husband even had to get up and say something. Also I had the deckle steak order medium and it came out beyond well but at that point it took so long to get him over to tell him that I just gave up.
We asked for a quiet table, which we got, but then a party of 12 was seated next to us that was very loud and it made it impossible to hear the more alcohol they consumed. Not sure why the hostess did this after we asked for a quiet table.
It would be nice to make appetizers available for brunch. I love the deviled eggs you used to have!
Overall i really like your restaurant and its one of my favorites in the area.
This was our second time eating at the 5 Church in Charlotte. We first discovered 5 Church in Charleston - and wow what an experience, but that is a separate review. We had an awesome dinner on Saturday night. Our server was very knowledgeable about the different wine selections and helped us choose a great cab. We ordered the lamb burgers and the ahi tuna poke - both were so delicious! We love the eclectic decor and the relaxed vibe. Will be back again soon. Highly recommend.
I indicated that it was my birthday when I made the reservation. My mother also let the server Gabriel know that it was my birthday and all we got was a half smile. I watched as Gabriel checked on the two tables behind us to only walk by us after. At the end of the meal after we paid was when he finally acknowledged my birthday. If the restaurant does anything for birthday’s I didn’t receive it.
The food left a lot to be desired. I was excited to have brunch here having had a previously great experience for dinner with friends. I won’t be returning. Diner style food at twice the price. The mimosas are cheap but so is the champagne and fake orange juice they use.
I should have had my birthday breakfast elsewhere ...
We went here for Sunday Brunch. Our only complaint was the coffee was luke warm when served. We told our waitress & she poured a second cup for each of us out of a carafe & the temp was the same. Obviously, we weren’t going to get hot coffee. The wild mushroom omelet & the crab cake benedict were tasty.
I rarely leave 1 star reviews. This is my first review on Open Table and sadly induced by the exceedingly poor service at this restaurant that then doubled down and let OT know that I did not show for my reservation time. SHAME on you. I was on time and you had me on a 30 plus delay because you cannot manage your reservations on a football sunday!!! See my full reviews on Yelp and Tripadvisor for this mess.
This was a very disappointing experience, especially as I have been to 5 Church on many occasions previously and have had good food and good service. This experience was the exact opposite. We arrived on time for our 12:15 lunch appointment with our party of 12, which we had reserved the previous week, so the restaurant management and staff had plenty of time to prepare. They didn't have our table ready, but quickly pushed tables together. There were only two other tables of guests throughout the lunchtime (2 people at each table). The waitress took quite a bit of time to get orders for water and then orders for drinks, but finally took our food orders at 12:30. We didn't see her for the next 30 minutes, and at that point I became concerned that we might be late getting back for a meeting in the office at 2:00, and so waited until I saw the waitress to wave her over. As she approached, she had a smirk on her face and an obvious attitude, even though this would be the first time that I had asked her to tell us when our food was coming out. She made no apology and expressed no concern, telling me only that the chef was plating our dishes to make sure everything was perfect. That couldn't have been further from the truth. My steakburger was medium well and my colleagues was raw, even though we had both ordered medium-rare/medium. When hers went back to the kitchen, it took another 15 minutes for it to come out again. One colleague who had ordered a steak waited an additional 5-10 minutes for it, and when it arrived it was not a good piece of meat and was not well-prepared. Side dishes also arrived late. Everyone reported that at best their food was "okay" which is not what I expect from a restaurant like 5 Church. The manager made one brief appearance, but was otherwise not out in the restaurant, and so either didn't know what was going on, or didn't care. Either way, we had a very bad experience and I will not go back anytime in the near future.
We had a confirmed noon reservation and weren’t seated until 12:40. The hostess apologized and said she would comp us appetizers, but no one ever did that. We didn’t receive our food until 1:25 and my daughters food didn’t arrive until fifteen minutes after everyone else’s did. I talked to the staff about the length of time our order was taking but no one made any effort to make up for our awful experience. The food was actually good, but I was really embarrassed that I brought our guests to a place with such terrible service.
Thanks so much for making my birthday extra special! Great food and great service! We will definitely be back. There were 4 of us celebrating my birthday. We had 3 apps, squash soup, octopus and meatballs. All 3 were amazing! Everyone but me had the steak, I had the chicken. Everything was amazing! We ordered 4 desserts, all delicious and rich but light at the same time. Overall experience was superb!
