Our daughters birthday. We had a reservation but had to wait over 35 minutes. However, we were compensated for it with a free round of drinks and an appetizer. (Classy) Our waiter was quite possibly the best we have ever had. (Name was Anfernie) Food was fantastic-N.Y. strip and fish of the day and a birthday dessert was brought for our daughter, complete with candle!
Food was excellent!! Creative and so not the typical Charleston food! I’ll definitely be returning
Food and service was very good. We were seated right by the hostess stand and in the middle of all the traffic. We felt as if we were in the way of the staff trying to get out to the patio area and many customers bumped our tables while exiting. That’s gross when you’re trying to eat especially in a fine dining establishment.
On a 10 yr old granddaughter/ grandparent trip. 5-Church couldn’t have been more special. Jacob ( I think) server really great.
In Charleston on a work trip and had to dine solo—was such an amazing setting and incredible service that I never had that awkward solo dining feeling. Everyone coming to Charleston should go—for the stunning views inside (the ENTIRE text of ‘The Art of War’ was handpainted on the arched ceilings of this church!) and for the even more impeccable dining experience! I had the two specials—fried green tomatoes with Brie (both sourced locally), and sheepshead fish with collards. Also had a honey habanero moonshine mule, which was PERFECT! I’ll definitely be back—would be an amazing girls night out restaurant, romantic dinner, or couples night out.
Favorite restaurant in Charleston!
Great food! Had to wait a bit beyond our reservation time. But once seated everything was great and the interior was cool.
The food was great but the restaurant was way too loud in addition our waiter was too “on” including interrupting our conversations. It was as though he was putting in a show. Annoying
Amazing decor and energy. Seated quickly with reservation and given choice of quiet patio, med energy sidevroom or loud main area. Great wine choices. Appetizers were good. Entrees were yummy (esp the scallops) but one friend ordered the $44 filet medium. It comes rare at most. Asks nicely to send it back, server had no issue. Returns with barely med rare piece and didn't seem to care whether it was to her liking or not. Didn't see much of her at the table after that so that was pretty disappointing especially given a few hundred dollar food/wine tab we were running.
Our reservation was not honored in a timely manner. When we were finally seated in the patio area, the seating was uncomfortable and the lighting annoying. The service was slow. Once ordered, the food was slow to come and so-so when it arrived. I won't be going back.
This restaurant was amazing from start to finish. We were first greeted by our amazing server Anfernee (sp?) He was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu and had a ton of recommendations. There were 4 of us in the party and we decided to get a few different options and share. We first started with the steak flatbread and meatballs for appetizers. Both of these were amazing and did not disappoint. From the tender steak to the flavorful meatballs. For the main course, we shared the sea scallops and fried chicken. Let me say both of these options were to die for. Nice portion sizes for 4 and very delicious. For desserts we had the pumpkin cheesecake which was a recommendation from Anfernee and the beignets. They couldn't have been more tasty.
Overall not worth the money. It is a very trendy restaurant and the food is definitely not worth the money. I had the fish of the day and it was not very good. Very loud as the high ceilings expand the sound. Had a seat along the outside wall in the main dining room. I had a great view of the wall. Energetic environment.
First off if you never been you need to see and eat at this place. WE took our time and had drinks, appetizers and a very good dinner.
the hostess let us change seats since they put us in the middle. Thanks ! the food and service were excellent. manager checked on us and talked about the place.
Left full and happy ! The views inside are really neat. super high ceilings with handwritten story from the art of war on the ceiling and walls. all in a very old church.
We loved our experience! Beautiful atmosphere and food was delicious!
I would not recommend for a large party. We had fourteen people, half were finished when the other half’s food had not arrived. No apologies but two meals taken off the bill. Food very average for the price. My BLT was all bread with a small slice of mozzarella and two pieces of bacon.
Family of 14. Service was poor and food overpriced. Server forgot about 2 of the orders and served the two about 30 minutes after others. Only got a few burned fries w heavy bread sandwiches or over fried chicken. We loved the ambiance so we were very disappointed when the food was so poor.
atmosphere and food excellent- we were not all served at the same time but compensated for it- no olives for a martini but found some 1 hour later - servers should of been monitoring more closely- manager did step in to apologize
Best Lobster Tail in Punta Cana. Service over the top. Winston knock the service level to the max. Fun place to take a date or a spouse. Not far from the resorts.
We loved everything about our dining experience at 5 Church!! The food was amazing, as was the atmosphere! Your wait staff did an outstanding job, especially our waiter Jacob! We will definitely be back! Can’t say enough great things!!!
We really enjoyed this beautiful restaurant and the food was amazing!
Six of us were visiting Charleston and came for dinner. Because the building was formerly a church, the interior is amazing! The service was spot-on and the food was incredible. Certainly worth a visit
Looking at menu started with app Avocado Toast bits of tomatoes micro greens made this delicious/ Husband ordered biscuits and gravy loved it wouldn't even share
fried chicken with bacon pimento cheese chicken tender juicy bacon was crisp not soggy excellent
burger was perfect too fries were also a surprise fresh cut seasoned didn't even need ketchup
The waiter was very rude about one of our party (in fact, the bachelorette in the group whom we were celebrating) being a vegetarian. There is a nice way to refuse to accommodate taking the meat out of a dish and he was very rude. He also made a very large point of saying that the reasoning was that the place is amazing at meat, but the lamb burger (which was requested to be medium) was extremely overcooked and the pork belly on the Benedict was also cooked very poorly and was almost impossible to cut. Lastly, we requested ahead of time to be seated in the main dining room and were not accommodated (not a huge deal, but would have been nice to be told or receive a token apology). Overall, the unpleasantness of the waiter and the not great food made for a bad mood at the table, which was a real shame given that it was supposed to be a celebratory meal. Would definitely not recommend.
Absolutely impeccable service and the food was outstanding!!
All tables received chips and hummus and we were wondering why we didn’t ??? After the wine we purchased was not good and we waited at least 25 minutes for waiter to come back with the menu to make new wine choice he offered us a manager special wine purchase of 250.00 which was silly because our first wine purchase was for 150.00 . The offer was not even in our price point? 5 minutes later he walked over with hummus and chips and said it was on the house because of the mix up with our wine purchase . Later to find our the hummus was freeee?? Really ??
Waiters name was Charlie
5Church is a must when in Charleston! I go every time I am in town and love it more and more each time. The food is amazing, the drinks are delicious, and the service and atmosphere is unbelievable. I have been for brunch, dinner, and late night drinks. On the weekends, they usually bring in a DJ at night who plays great music and just adds to the ambience.
Amazing food & great ambiance! Fried chicken was so good and the $13 mimosa carafes are definitely worth it. Overall great experience!
Was so excited to go back to 5Church. Was disappointed in how loud it was, took a long time to even get acknowledged, let alone drinks. Was bummed. Food was good despite not so great service.
We would definitely recommend dining here. Ambiance unique and inviting. It is in an old church. The food is excellent with ample to share. I had the ahi poke bowl, made in traditional Japanese style. Topped with caviar! Delicious and decadent. Two people can definitely share the dish. Staff are on top of their game. My only criticism is that there are only 2 bathrooms for men/woman to use. Great location, we will absolutely be back.
Ate here on the last night of the last stop on our Carolinas trip and this was by far the best food of the trip. The short rib appetizer was excellent, as were both the Top Chef-featured 60 second steak (cooked only on one side so it is at least the doneness requested) and pork chop entrees. The atmosphere was lively but not too loud. The entire text of The Art of War is painted on the inside ceiling of the church. Really cool interior.
Kenneth, our server , was exceptional. Have never had better service or food in Charleston!!! Surroundings superb as well. This is a jewel in the crown of the Holy City!”
Good food, great ambiance in an old church with big stain glass windows and high ceilings
Lunch chicken sandwich was best I think I've ever had!! Waiter was awesome. Decor is unique... Definitely a great place and location by the Market & near lots of other places.
The wait staff was great! We had a very funny bus boy!
We thoroughly enjoyed this place. From the uniqueness of the interior to the entrees it was all amazing. We started with the prime beef meatballs and that was simply the best meatball appetizer we had ever eaten. Our favorite up until then was Harry’s boudin balls in St Augustine,Florida. We had 3 Different entrees. They were the prime ‘60 second’ Ny strip cooked to perfection but I substituted the truffled polenta for the au gratin potatoes and they were fantastic. We also had the 9oz Filet and there wasn’t a crumb left on her plate. The 3rd dish was the Daily entree which was a pork chop with sweet potatoes and green beans. The portions were perfect for us. We recommended this establishment to anyone that enjoys great food and good service in a unique setting.
I usually love 5 church however I felt very rushed. I think this restaurant tends to overlook themselves especially on the weekend and we were totally rushed to order our meal. Our appetizers came out before we even got our drinks that we ordered. I suggest if u want a relaxing dinner where you can take ur time, go somewhere else
Noise level was off the charts. If it wee OSHA regulated, hearing protection would be mandatory. All else was good but.less enjoyable due to the noise
Unique and interesting decor. Limited menu but good quality food. The portions were too small for the price. The guitar player was good but too loud for an already noisy environment. The server started out very attentive but seemed to lose interest after realizing we ( party of two) were ordering a smallish dinner. It’s mainly about the decor here. Would recommend to others for an experience but wouldn’t go back myself
Food was delicious. We just happened to be there at a time when they were out of some of the dishes. It was really neat inside though so I would recommend trying it for sure!
