5A5 Steak Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Apple parsnip soup was great and filet mignon was delicious. Chef offerings were a nice touch. Service was wonderful. My dining companion didn't care as much for the prime rib (not necessarily because it wasn't good, but he wished he hd ordered a filet instead). Place was a bit noisy but overall a positive experience.
We made reservations and arrived an hour early. The host was able to accommodate us. We were seated immediately but their chair was defective. We raised the issue and was moved to another table right away.
The food is great and customer service is excellent! A little bit pricey but it’s worth the experience.
This place was amazing! Our waiter plus the staff here were all so pleasant. They took care of my friend and I so well. We were celebrating her birthday and the dinner was so awesome that it had my friend in tears. It was beautiful haha. The food was great! I loved the mac and cheese with lobster and the tempura lobster tail. And of course we ended it with dessert. Yum yum yummm!! So bomb! Can't wait to come again with my husband next time.
I had the opportunity to dine here on NYE. The food was pricey, but they did have a special prixe-fixed menu evening with a lot of culinary options.
The ambiance was wonderful (not too loud) and the service was just as pleasant. Particularly, the large-sized filet mignon!
The only complaint I have what that the $50 non/refundable deposit was not clearly stated when I reserved the time slot. Other than that, I would definitely dine here for another special occasion.
Hadn't been to 5a5 in several years and wanted to bring my wife here for the first time. The food didn't wow me, especially with the prime rib that we asked for medium rare and got medium. Our drinks came out seemly slow considering there did not appear to be any patrons in the bar area; bartenders appeared to be standing around chatting with each other. Our server was very good and attentive to us. Overall, the rating will be much lower than what I had given the restaurant on previous visits. Still a good restaurant for eating steak; though I may suggest saving the prime rib for a steak house that specializes in prime rib.
Food was good I’m not a truffle person and so didn’t order the Wagyu meat as every one of them had a truffle sauce. Every type of drink I wanted they didn’t carry no Crown Royal, no Pinot Grigio but what I did eat the Filet Mignonette with garlic sauce was fabulous mashed potatoes awesome.
My duck was good. Others had the filet of sole that was WAY too salty. Our server was not rude, but not polite either. All in all.....a so so experience that I won’t be returning to. Also, as a side note, the most expensive red wine by the glass was from one of the worst wineries in Healdsburg. At $22.00 per glass, they should be ashamed of themselves. Instead, we ordered a half bottle of the Rafanalli. They should be bringing in perhaps Seghasio zin for that money. I live in Healdsburg and no restaurant in Healdsburg would serve the choices they offer by the glass.
Very disappointing! The A5 Wagyu Ribeye was excellent, U.S. Filets were average, and the 32oz. U.S. Ribeyes were poor (very tough). Sent one ribeye back and I never do that ever! Slow weak service, messed up the order twice, and we spent $1250 for a party of six. Live and learn. If you go... only order the A5 Wagyu!
Came here for our annual xmas steakhouse dinner with the girlfriends. They sat us at a 2-seat table where the sides come up, but only opened 1 side stating the couldn’t open the other because of another table nearby. They also said they couldn’t seat us at any of the other open tables because they have people coming. I guess our reservations meant nothing.
Thankfully the table next to us was kind and didn’t mind the other side being open.
The oysters were good, nothing special. I had the ribeye and the girls had the t-bone. We’ve had our share of steaks before and found 5a5 to have really fatty steaks, not marble fat, but chunks of fat that we would have to cut off. The sides were okay and we didn’t try dessert.
Overall, not impressed nor would I take my husband here. Waiter was nice but the overall experience and food were lacking.
I brought my family here with great excitement, but sad to say I was deeply disappointed by the service in particular but the main courses as well. It has been several years since I have dined here and I can recall having an absolutely fabulous experience back then. Unless someone else organizes a dinner here, I don't believe that I will be coming back to 5A5 given all the choices available in the city.
Staff was not attentive for the first hour of our dinner. I had to ask the hostess to send the wait staff to take our wine order, bring the wine, take the order, etc.
Staff needs to be attentive that business dinners with 9 people need immediate attention to drinks, ordering, and swift execution throughout.
This place probably had it's glory 10+ years ago and now is simply a highly overpriced restaurant. Prices are not nearly in line with quality of everything: food, service, ambiance. There's probably a hundred places in the city way better than this at half the cost.
The best thing about 5A5 is the food. Everything we ordered was delicious and perfectly prepared.
The downside and the reason I won’t go back are 2 things.
First everything was way overpriced. Wine list too expensive, dinners too expensive, sides and starters too expensive. Fortunately for me it was a business meal, but even though my company paid, it was out of line.
Second reason was that the waiter was condescending. He gave me the impression that he thought I was cheap for only ordering the $90 bottle of wine, not the $250 bottle he recommended. He also padded the bill by suggesting way too much food for the 4 of us to eat. At steak places like this sides are shareable, but he wanted us to order 4 for the table. We did order 3 sides and ate less than 1/3 of each.
There are much better restaurants in SF.
Very accommodating towards special dates such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Cocktail was bitters heavy. Probably that's how it's made but I didn't like it much. It was somewhat like a old fashion with honey but didn't taste anything but bullet rye and bitters.
Food was good love the mashed potatoes. Filet Mignon was super tender.
The bussers skill was amazing I wish I could bus that well he cleared the whole table and wiped it in one go.
One thing that kind of ruined my whole experience was that I wrote don't let any one pay but me... and I didn't so I was mad. But overall good place would come back here again.
Recently, we celebrated a birthday and the overall experience was fantastic. The chef offered a complimentary appetizer- crab over a cucumber slice that was delicious. We dined in prime rib (cooked to perfection), mashed potatoes, cauliflower and mushrooms- all were a culinary delight. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the wine list and suggested the Pinot Noir which complimented the meal. The birthday dessert was small bites was sufficient to whet our senses.
We have dined here before and the meat is beyond wonderful. Delicious, and cooked to perfection. The only thing we did not like was dessert. We ordered a dessert to share and
it looked like they threw some things on a plate. It was ill prepared and looked like a
5 year old made it. So stick with the food and forget the dessert!
If you like steak, this is NOT the restaurant to visit! 2 friends and I visited on Saturday night, and we were excited to try 5A5 given the reviews. Clearly, the owners have several family members reviewing this place, because no independent reviewer would give this a passing grade.
The meal started with slow service and a 30 minute wait for our reservation. But, that was forgivable as the bar has a nice atmosphere. Once we were seated, we started with the Shisito peppers (actually very good, highlight of the meal), and Wagyu sliders. The sliders were a foreshadowing of what was to come...the meal slid downhill from there! Despite being ordered medium rare, they were served almost raw. Nothing "special" about these, and tasted like any slider you would get off the "passed trays" at any mid-level wedding. They make a big deal out of their Wagyu here, and we all expected something more.
Salads were next, the baked salad with an egg. This dish was ok. Then the trouble really began. The 3 of us ordered the $80 Ribeye. I only mention the price because there is an expectation of a good piece of meat. Again, not only were all 3 of our dishes WAY undercooked, the meat was tough, filled with gristle, and we were forced to send all of them back. It was inedible. Honestly, we spent the night listing places we had better steak at, and it didn't take Morton's or Joe's to beat it. We're talking Applebee's, Chili's and business class on United were better. The sides we ordered, the spinach, mushrooms, and cauliflower were serviceable, but again, nothing special.
The manager Matthew was the one bright spot. He apologized profusely, and did what he could to salvage the experience. But, after being there for hours, we weren't about to wait for another hour for a new steak. He didn't seem at all surprised by how poor the food was. I'm guessing his main job is apologizing to customers for the food. We left still a bit hungry, and definitely disappointed.
This was out first time to this restaurant and it was fantastic. The food, service and ambiance are all in harmony. The waiter took the time to explain the entire menu and did not rush us in ordering right away. I would highly recommend this restaurant for an intimate night out or just to have dinner with friends. We plan to return!
