5A5 Steak Lounge Ratings and Reviews
The food was fine and the service adequate. But my friend and I ordered a few different small plates and the server said that the items were served family style and would be sent separately (as in sent out in courses), but we received all the food at once: salad, soup, fries and lobster tempura - so we were forced to eat some of the hot foods after they had cooled considerably.
Nice food, good services. A place where I always come back whenever I'm in SF. Everything looks fine except the wine list. The lists have changed with less quality wines than before. But I still love to have dinners with my friends there anyway!
My wife and myself were celebrating our 12 year wedding Anniversary and your team made our moment even more special than what it already was. From the moment we were greeted, till our ending coffee, our server made it a night truly to remember. She was very out going, understood our needs. Excellent service. Thank you so much!!!
It was my boyfriend's birthday and we were there to celebrate it. Everything was so amazing. The service was incredible great. The food...omg words can't explain it. The best I've ever tasted in SF so far. Definitely an awesome place to go to. Don't miss it out!
I ordered the Waygu Beef Sliders Medium Well and they were still bleeding. So I sent them back and said I am okay with medium well but to me medium well is not bleeding on your plate. When they came back they were still too pink inside for me. I nibbled around the edges that were done enough for me. Someone else ordered the Mary Free Range Chicken and it was pink inside too. I guess we are just used to food cooked until it is done. This did affect my ratings but it is probably more me than the restaurant. It is just hard to know what medium well is in restaurants as they did not give me any range. If the waiter had said medium well is going to be bleeding then I would have said well done. And I did not think to ask.
Impressively awful. I don't ever write reviews either.
They did not have 7 different things we ordered off the menu. 4 different wines (a Merlot, the Rose and two others), Bombay Sapphire gin and two other things.
We asked for tap water and got bottled water which I reiterated we didn't want but, they still charged us for. Our appetizer's were comped but, it was still a $250 meal for 3 people who weren't just expensing a business meal. Although that's how it felt we were being treated.
'These people have money to spend, let's upsell them on the meat, the wine, (even) the water'
It was laughable. We went to Kokarri and drank wine there afterward, they actually had what we wanted and atmosphere there is top notch by comparison.
My bridesmaids and I came for my bachelorette dinner before we went out dancing. Staff were amazing and very professional. They greater us and congratulated me for getting married and chef gave us comp green smoothie shots (I don't remember what's it's called, it had no alcohol and it was so yummy) our food was made just how we asked and the drinks were so good too. At the end I got this dessert and chocolate writing read congratulations with two rings and rose petals. I was beyond excited and happy. We had so much fun and that was just the beginning of the night.
Great service, great food!
Our server brought out samples of each of the four types of Wagyu beef the restaurant serves, and described each one.
Everyone in our party ordered a cold sushi spoon appetizer. The hamachi-uni spoon was excellent.
For my meal, I got the wagyu beef sliders (2 per order) and the truffle mac and cheese. The truffle flavor was very prominent, I enjoyed both of my orders!
My date ordered the mushroom side prime rib with foie gras served on top for an additional cost. This add-on was not advertised on the menu, but he saw it in an online review. He thought the steak was cooked perfectly and very tender, and I agree. Our friends got another steak and the maple bacon mashed potato and prosciutto asparagus. Everything was amazing!
My cocktail was pretty good. Everyone else in our party tried scotch. Our friends got the 3-scotch tasting, and enjoyed that.
The only negatives are the noise level (hard to hear conversation across the booth) and the booth style seating where we sat was significantly lower than the table, so it was a bit awkward to be cutting steak at that angle.
So, first I don't love how before you have taken a breath, they are shilling a $600 kobe sampler.
Secondly, why does everything have to have a truffle sauce on the sampler? You don't think fake truffles are a little overpowering for kobe beef? I also think it is funny when they offer prime rib and are sold out 30 minutes after opening in a room that is barely 25% full.
But my main concern is that we asked for medium rare and were served a steak that was blue in the middle. The tables on either side of us had similar issues (for example woman asked for medium and was served rare). The only crucial thing a steakhouse has to do is cook a steak to specifications. Massive fail for $170.
My fiance and I came here for our 7th anniversary.
-STEAK: Filet mignon & NY STeak- very tender and flavorful
-SIDES:Mashed potatoes (w/candied bacon) & Prosiutto asparagus
-DRINKs: Margaritas, measured by the ounce not worth the price.
Be prepared to spend $300 minimum per couple..
Extremely prompt service I flew in from Chicago and took my girlfriend and it was nothing less then perfect, fast, prompt, and polite service. Food was next level good and the chef sent us complimentary tastes of desert and bite size sausages coming back very soon
Took a little while to get the menus from a server but once we got them everything was amazing. ( my guess was he had a lot of other table so I ybderstand) Server was attentive. Checked in on every dish. Chef created absolutely amazing dishes and they were presented beautiful. I would recommend this lounge/restaurants to all of my friends
Great dinner, our regular filet and A5 japanese wagyu ribeye were cooked perfectly. The A5 was the best steak we've ever had (better than other places that serve wagyu). The lobster tempura was to die for, hamachi shooters were a fun starter.
Service was friendly and on point, fun, modern atmosphere - not stuff at all.
Chose this restaurant for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. We were excited to try it out.
They were out of the steak we wanted as well as mashed potatoes and the sides were served room temperature.
We complained to our waiter but he just apologized and that was it.
Our prime rib was ok. I expected better ambiance and food quality for the price.
I was told to try Epic in SF and now I wish we would have.
We were also disappointed there was no valet. Parking was difficult to find as expected.
We consider ourselves steak connoisseurs. We have eaten in NYC's Peter Luger, Sparks, etc. this place blows them away. Knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff. Absolutely melt-in-your mouth 11-12 grade wagyu ribeye and cap. And we mean if you let a piece sit on your tongue, it melts like "butta". Generous shareable sides, Creative desserts, special Table-side Scotch and Whiskey service. Just outstanding. A bit pricey, but its once in a lifetime steak. We were there for our anniversary. Recommend highly.
I ordered a bone in Ribeyes 32 oz
It is a little bit well done for a medium rare
And I was expecting it will be done perfectly, crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. But I'm disappointed.
On the other hand, the lobster tempura is well deserved a try. I will definitely recommend it.
