54 Mint Ratings and Reviews
Every course was terrific. I really appreciated getting 3 lamb chops instead of the typical two for the second course. My wife's cauliflower "flan" was to die for. Arrived an hour early for our reservation, but were seated in about 20 minutes. Brought my own Brunello...$30 corkage higher than typical for me, but SF is not an inexpensive place to dine.
I was expecting the food to be good after reading all the good reviews. Unfortunately, none in our party enjoyed the meal. Thr appetizer was decent. And that's it. The risotto was a tad too tangy. The halibut was bland. It lacked salt and pepper and the plating was not intuitive at all. Even the dessert wasn't good either. So it was quite disappointing since we went to this restaurant to celebrate our friends' wedding and Valentine's Day. Service was good though.
We got to 54 Mint 30 mins early for our reservation. Checked in with the hostess and she assured us that we might be able to get our table early within 10mins. Great! So we waited around. 10min came, 15min, 20mins, she keeps saying in a few mins. Finally, at our reservation time, we were seated. Now I was there for my wedding anniversary but I was also there with my two year old daughter and if you been to the restaurant before, there really is no area to wait inside. So the three of us waited outside for 30mins for our reservation time to come up. I just think she should have been clear that our table wouldn’t be ready early and we could have came back but everytime I checked in with her, she kept telling me a few more minutes. We got seated and ordered two pastas and two mains. The pastas came out at a relatively reasonable time but qualitu was very different. One pasta was amazing but one was very poorly done. Really heavy on the salt and pasta was not fully cooked even to Al Dente. My daughter and wife still enjoyed the pasta so we just moved on looking forward to our mains. Well... between the pasta and our mains, there was a good 50 minute wait. What’s more is unknown to us, we suddenly had a new waiter start serving us half way through our meal. That I didnt mind as this guy served us last time we were there. But the 50 mins wait for our mains really bothered me as my two year old had finished her meal and was getting rather antsy again from waiting. Finally our mains came and boy, again heavy handed of salt on both dishes. My wife’s steak was also overcooked to what she requested. As much as we wanted to send it back, we didn’t want to wait another 50mins for it to come back especially with my two year old reaching her bedtime. So we finished and left, i didnt even finish my main. I can understand it being an off night, but on my wedding anniversary? Really?
We arrived earlier than our reservation and the hostess graciously found a table and sat us right away. The service was outstanding and the food was exceptional . You felt like you were dining in Italy . Everything was authentic and and fresh. We would definitely go back. Best lamb chops!
I thought the restaurant was small and rustic. The Italian food was different but good. The Servers went out of their way to make you comfortable. The one Issue was finding the restaurant for the first time. The restaurant Had a nice feel for locals as well as visitors.
We took our daughter for a weekday birthday lunch and chose this restaurant due to it being close to her school! Could not have chosen a better Italian restaurant and our food was very authentic, fresh and delicious! We just spent two weeks in Italy, and this was just as good if not better than food we had there! Had the best sparkling Rose we have ever had! Server was very sweet and attentive! They even allowed me to bring in the birthday cake I had made for my daughter! Kind of a tucked away area away from the crazys, so don’t worry when you try to find a parking space! 😁 Will be back!
Just wonderful food. Somewhat bistro-style Italian. Not excessively fancy, but fancy enough.
Wonderful food clearly made from very fine ingredients. The pasta dishes, in particular, were fantastic. Service was friendly and attentive. The only negative is that the downstairs dining room (in a basement) suffers a bit from noise reverberation/reflection. If you're sensitive to this, you'll be happier upstairs. I've eaten there several times now, and never been disappointed.
Reservation was at 7:30, we didn't get seated until 8:00. Getting water and a drink took until 8:20. Waiter disappeared before we were done with dinner and had to flag a new waiter down. We saw our waiter leaving, changed out into his street clothes and clearly done for the night. Was very disappointing service but great food.
Booked a table at 54 Mint while in San Francisco for a short visit. The restaurant was crowded, but the hostess acknowledged us immediately. The wait staff were attentive and pleasant. The menu was interesting and we enjoyed everything we ordered (appetizers, pastas, ox tails, and dessert). We brought our own wine. Although the restaurant was noisy, it was altogether a pleasant dining experience.
This is one of my favorite go-to restaurants near Union Square. It has a nice European ambiance and excellent food. I've never been disappointed. Unfortunately our waiter got no part of my order right - none. But the hostess was wonderful, and others picked up the slack. All-in-all, very nice, and I will look forward to returning.
This used to be one of favorite restaurant for pasta. However, our last meal there was a complete disappointment. The flavor was lacking in both the appetizers and pasta. The POLPETTE in BiANCO was bland and tasted like cooked ground beef. The first time the pasta came out, all three dishes were cold. They felt like they had been sitting on the counter for some time. When the dishes were served the second time, the flavor of the FETTUCCiNE ai FUNGHi was bland. the mushroom used were not fresh...tasted like canned mushrooms. The only redeeming dish was the tiramisu.
First time dining here, with husband and another couple. Our waiter was Italian, born in Modena, which made it feel authentic. He was willing to converse with us, even though our Italian language skills were not stellar. Had cacio e pepe,--one of my favorite pasta dishes--and it was very good. Homemade pasta, cooked al dente.Best rendition of this dish for me outside of Rome. Husband had the oxtail, which was delicious, made with fine products, and perfectly cooked. The only con here is the neighborhood, which is a hangout for denizens of the night. I will definitely dine here again.
