Really solid mid Market/mid-Mission lunch spot. A tucked away gem with great Italian comfort food at reasonable prices. Good for small-mid sized groups. Service is very good, and unrushed as it should be. If you are in a hurry, let them know.
I thought the restaurant was small and rustic. The Italian food was different but good. The Servers went out of their way to make you comfortable. The one Issue was finding the restaurant for the first time. The restaurant Had a nice feel for locals as well as visitors.
We took our daughter for a weekday birthday lunch and chose this restaurant due to it being close to her school! Could not have chosen a better Italian restaurant and our food was very authentic, fresh and delicious! We just spent two weeks in Italy, and this was just as good if not better than food we had there! Had the best sparkling Rose we have ever had! Server was very sweet and attentive! They even allowed me to bring in the birthday cake I had made for my daughter! Kind of a tucked away area away from the crazys, so don’t worry when you try to find a parking space! 😁 Will be back!
Getting even better with time - porchetta and sformata appetizers, fettucini with venison, buccatoni amitriciana.. delicious. We prefer the cellar - quieter and very cozy!
Food was exemplary and the wine a 2010 Grifola a perfect match!
Awesome, we showed up early and were willing to wait while having a drink at bar. They had our table ready early so we had no wait. Food and service were excellent which is why we come back every year on our annual trip to the Bay Area.
We didn't know what to expect, but wow! Food was authentic Italian and delicious. Fantastic - want to go back and will definitely recommend.
Just wonderful food. Somewhat bistro-style Italian. Not excessively fancy, but fancy enough.
Wonderful food clearly made from very fine ingredients. The pasta dishes, in particular, were fantastic. Service was friendly and attentive. The only negative is that the downstairs dining room (in a basement) suffers a bit from noise reverberation/reflection. If you're sensitive to this, you'll be happier upstairs. I've eaten there several times now, and never been disappointed.
Reservation was at 7:30, we didn't get seated until 8:00. Getting water and a drink took until 8:20. Waiter disappeared before we were done with dinner and had to flag a new waiter down. We saw our waiter leaving, changed out into his street clothes and clearly done for the night. Was very disappointing service but great food.
Booked a table at 54 Mint while in San Francisco for a short visit. The restaurant was crowded, but the hostess acknowledged us immediately. The wait staff were attentive and pleasant. The menu was interesting and we enjoyed everything we ordered (appetizers, pastas, ox tails, and dessert). We brought our own wine. Although the restaurant was noisy, it was altogether a pleasant dining experience.
Loved the waiters and the ambiance. But the Carbonara which two of ordered lacked flavor and since was too thick. Apps we had were good and shellfish dish my husband has was good.
Best Italian food I’ve had (other than being in a italy itself!) Server gave us a tour of Italy through the nodes of the food. Must check it out.
54 Mint happens to be one of our favorite restaurants. In fact, we had our wedding dinner there. So, it's always a special treat when someone asks us where we would like to meet them for dinner.
It's probably the only place that I would ever order a simple dish of pasta with pepper. But it's so delicious and reminds me of my Italian grandfather that I literally have cravings for it.
I've never had a bad dish there and I've tried almost everything.
Attentive, accommodating service.
The pasta dish we (two of us) shared was uninspired
The calamari was good but small
The lamb chops were perfect.
The drinks were very good.
All and all a solid place
Good food but not amazing
Very fresh, tasty food in a beautiful setting. A nice way to have Italian fare without a pure starch approach
This is one of my favorite go-to restaurants near Union Square. It has a nice European ambiance and excellent food. I've never been disappointed. Unfortunately our waiter got no part of my order right - none. But the hostess was wonderful, and others picked up the slack. All-in-all, very nice, and I will look forward to returning.
Wonderful dining exoerience! Excellent cuisine, perfect service, and vibrant ambiance.

The service was great, The food was delicious, the place is a little hide, just as a recommendation and it's nothing to do with the restaurant, but I rather to make this to everybody "careful where you park" when you go to the restaurant
Ristorante italianissimo, cibo ottimo, servizio anche, atmosfera rilassante anche se un po’ spartana ma comunque in linea con lo stile del posto. Nel complesso però molto buono tutto.
The food was excellent and the service was even better. We were there for my wife's birthday and they took fantastic care of me.
This used to be one of favorite restaurant for pasta. However, our last meal there was a complete disappointment. The flavor was lacking in both the appetizers and pasta. The POLPETTE in BiANCO was bland and tasted like cooked ground beef. The first time the pasta came out, all three dishes were cold. They felt like they had been sitting on the counter for some time. When the dishes were served the second time, the flavor of the FETTUCCiNE ai FUNGHi was bland. the mushroom used were not fresh...tasted like canned mushrooms. The only redeeming dish was the tiramisu.
We had a great time and enjoyed the hospitality of the servers and hosts.
Great service and place for pre-theater!
The food was OK, but the service was outstanding.
Love this place - great food, lovely ambiance and good selection of vino
First time dining here, with husband and another couple. Our waiter was Italian, born in Modena, which made it feel authentic. He was willing to converse with us, even though our Italian language skills were not stellar. Had cacio e pepe,--one of my favorite pasta dishes--and it was very good. Homemade pasta, cooked al dente.Best rendition of this dish for me outside of Rome. Husband had the oxtail, which was delicious, made with fine products, and perfectly cooked. The only con here is the neighborhood, which is a hangout for denizens of the night. I will definitely dine here again.
Homemade pasta in a great space down a hidden alley
Simple, delicious Roman classics using the freshest local ingredients. The “pinsa bread” they use to make their paninis is fabulous...!
Good food, great service even though my server forgot my coffee at the end. Birthday dinner with my gal, they gave us free dessert :)
Super friendly staff, the waiters were engaging and recommended some dishes which I appreciated.
Slightly over-price but I understand - it is SF.
Really great meal. Look forward to eating there again soon.
Good food, great location, really nice ambiance.
Excellent wait staff.
Service was tolerable, but the food killed our experience here. The pasta lacked flavor, as did the undercooked meatballs. Def will not go back.
Cute restaurant and Tiramisu was good. We needed more attention. Took a while before we were greeted by our server, he didn’t check on us and Had to ask for water 3x. Finally the bus guy brought us some water.
Everything was delicious. Great service.
Too bad the people next to us were talking too loud, but it's not the restaurant' s fault. When these people left we felt relieved and could have a conversation. Why do people don't realize how impolite and disrespectful is speaking and laughing so loudly in this country ?
The executives enjoyed their meal and the location was very handy.
Very friendly staff. They were knowledgeable and helpful when we ordered. Wine was good. We tried the Valpolicello and the Bottello (white) Both were good. The food was excellent, nicely served and very flavorful. The ambiance was a little cold. The high ceilings make for a noisy and uncozy atmosphere. Bathrooms down a lot of stairs, but clean and well-maintained.
We made reservations but none were needed. You don't get a particularly friendly reception when you walk in. My husband and father in law both immigrated from Italy but it didn't have a warm, Italian feeling. We sat down and explained we wanted to order family style. Within less than 10 minutes, 4 of the 6 plates we ordered we put on our table. We hadn't even been served wine and each plate must have been pre-prepared for that speed. I asked the waiter to slow down the service so our food would not get cold and we wouldn't have to rush. Less than two minutes later, the last two plates were served? What? I had to ask again for them to take two back to let us enjoy our food. Then the busser poured still water into our paid for sparkling water and a whole variety of specific misses in service ensued. The wait staff was not trained for American service. When the mistakes were made, no apologies were offered. The food was fine, not great, with some things done well and others mediocre. For that price point I'd expect really high quality food. The pana cotta we ordered was lovely, with a delicate flavor and perfect creamy consistency. However, it was just dumped on the plate...no thoughtful plating, without any true love of the food that I'd expect from an Italian restaurant. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant or go there again. There are many much better choices for Italian in SF at this price point.
