Food was delicious and the service was exceptional
Every dish came far to fast. The main course came at the same second as they took the pa,tea from the starter, even though we said we wanted some space in between. Food tasted fine but nothing exceptional
Nothing to write home about really. I felt this place was little pretentious. Food was GOOD, but nothing spectacular or particularly flavorful that you wouldn't get at any mid-range Italian restaurant in North Beach. Service was extremely slow but I think this is the style and I did not mind it. I felt the ambiance was more for larger groups than for couples or small groups (as mine was). Very nice waiter. Wonderful hostess I must say - I was greeted immediately in such a welcoming way which set the expectation for a fabulous meal, but it just wasn't. Would I recommend to try? Yes most certainly. Would I go back? Unfortunately probably not.
Five friends came in for an early dinner recently while visiting from Canada. Service was EXCEPTIONAL from the moment we entered. Everyone enjoyed the food and we would not hesitate to return. Wine recommendations were very good.
This place is such a sleeper! Spectacular Italian food, excellent service, low key ambiance. Our favorite place to dine when we come to SF.
This place is a fantastic gem with great atmosphere and home cooked quality food.
Service was mediocre, as was the food. My pork chop was on the tough side, kale salad OK as were the cocktails.
Didn't taste my friend's dishes (one salmon, one steak) but they didn't seem thrilled either.
And stingy with bread! I'm happy to pay, but you'd think it was gold.
Too many good places in SF to ever return.
At 5:30pm, the empty room started to fill up. Imagine people arriving at your restaurant at almost the exact same time because they have a show to catch. Then, imagine the servers being friendly and helpful, while smiling. The best part was the food was delicious! I don't know how they can do it night after night, but to have delicious food in a warm and cozy room with friendly servers will draw me back again, even if I don't have a show to catch. On our way out, we noticed quite a few people standing around waiting to be seated, so it's nice to see it's not simply a place to dine before a show. It's that good! PS: the downstairs area isn't nearly as inviting as the main room. Try to sit on the main floor.
We had a great time. The food was really good - we loved the kale salad & the croquettes for apps & all enjoyed our pasta dishes. The service was a bit slow on a busy Friday night so my dish came out a little cold which was a bummer because the flavors were great. Our waitress was great but must have just been really busy because there were long stretches of time where we didn’t see her. But overall the vibe is cool, and we left satisfied.
Truly authentic Italian. Felt like were were in Tuscany. Excellent food and service. Highly recommend.
Great service and staff and terrific food. Second time there and will definitely return.
Was impressed by the service. The enthusiasm and professionalism of the staff was apparent from the time we stepped up to the maitre’d stand to the waiters ability to recommend wine to the time we paid the bill. The owner has created a super team!
A strictly Roman place with super pasta. Knowledgeable servers too. Great experience.
Phenomenal octopus appetizer, orange salad, and lamb secondi. The crushed potatoes with rosemary, flash fried were heavenly!
This place is awesome! I stop in frequently for a relaxing glass of wine at the bar, as it's an ideal place to wrap up the day. And, dinner with my wife and friends last night was perfect. The service was fantastic and the staff so nice. And, as always, the food was terrific!
We love Italian food and were excited to try 54 Mint based on its Open Table reviews. For appetizers we tried the Suppli (arancini rice balls with cheese) and the Bucatini Amatriciana. For entrees, we tried the rack of lamb. The food was very good, especially the pasta. Our only hesitation about recommending 54 Mint is based on how expensive the wine list is. The list is very extensive, but for Italian red wines there were only a handful of bottles that were less than $60 a bottle. There were two Chiantis on the list -- one was $98 and the other was $145. There are many great Italian red wines, Chianti and otherwise, that can be found in nice Italian restaurants for $40 - $50. We hope 54 Mint will expand its wine list to offer a greater number of reasonably priced wines.
Incredible ambiance and the food was great. We let our server pick the wine and he was good at bringing the right selection for us to pick.
Would go back again.
The food was delicious (5 stars for the food, no question) but we felt rushed by the service and after we finished our entrees we were completely ignored. Not sure why they wouldn't want to sell us more wine (we would definitely have ordered it!), and they didn't even refill our water. For how much our party spent, I thought the service was majorly lacking. Won't be back.
We came back a second time because the first time was so good, plus we wanted to introduce our foodie friends to 54 Mint. Our appetizers were excellent -- octopus with potatoes, a special of eggplant and tomatoes, and the prosciutto with mozzarella was okay (a burrata would have been better). Our friends were not disappointed with their lamb and special pasta of the evening, but my husband and I thought our fettuccine and rigatoni had little flavor. The desserts were fabulous -- the panna cotta and the tiramisu. We would go again but not order those dishes again.
The delay between courses was so long that we had to leave before being finished—unfortunately, because the food was good!!
We went before the theatre and chose this restaurant as it was close. It was our best meal in SF!!! It was authentic and flavorful. From the mouth watering octopus. Buratta and prosciutto, dinner special of homemade pasta with bolognese, and the oxtail that melted with every bite!! I can’t say enough!
Really a great dinner. We had the salad with oranges, octopus, salmon and ox tail. All were excellent. In my opinion this restaurant is very reasonably priced for the quality of food and service.
Our server changed midway through our dining experience without any mention of it.
After our food was served, they never checked in to see how we liked the food which just ok. Also, we asked for our check because we were attending a concert nearby and they never cleared our plates which is very annoying!
Fantastic pastas; loved the octopus appetizer also. Wine recommendation was spot on. And they comped a tiramisu for my friend's birthday!
Here is one of the most delicious Italian restaurant in the US.
Excellent experience. One of my favorites in SF. Pasta for my guest (gnocchi) and me (fettuccine) was fresh and perfectly cooked. Salads were light and fresh. Service was timely and friendly. Except that you have to walk through some unsavory characters in front of and along the alley by the side, this place is my go to for a long business lunch.
Pleasing space tucked away on the mint plaza. Great smell greets you. Energetic, pretty well-healed crowd at 8 pm on a weeknight. All great tasting food. One appetizer and one pasta/entree would be plenty for dinner.
loved the food and service, everything! Did not have much time but kitchen was able to accommodate our rush. Plan on returning for a relaxed dinner to relish every bite.
Birthday for my girlfriend... everything was excellent!
Brought out a special dessert ( on the house) for her birthday
Highly recommend
Food is ok, there are definitely better Italian spots in SF if you are looking for that. The restaurant is super cute, but I would say overall pretty mediocre.
Great food, location, ambience, and value, especially the prix fixe lunch with soup/salad, pasta and espresso. Nice, hidden place, especially if you want a peaceful and quiet break while shopping downtown.
Just an all-round great dining-out experience!
Charming space, attentive staff and delicious food!
Service was excellent as was the food. I’ve been visiting San Francisco for 4 days now. This is my forth restaurant I’ve eaten at. All the restaurant were good. But this has been the best. I had the pork chops and my spouse had salmon. For the dessert had tiramisu and cappuccino. Reservations are a must as the restaurant has limited seating .
Communal table in the basement distracted from the dining experience
Nice rooms (despite being in underground), you feel well. Service friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Food superb and authentic.
Great location, great service, great food, but so noisy it was hard to have a good conversation with my dinner guests.
Excellent lunch location with nice sidewalk patio option. Pastas were exceptional and unique. Can’t go wrong with this location.
We love this place! Great for a business dinner or date, walkable location from all the downtown hotels/Mosconi. Menu has staples and also rotates in seasonal options. Staff is also excellent!
54 Mint never disappoints. The food fresh and delicious. I've never had a bad meal there.
It is authentic Italian food. Simple, quality ingredients, delicious.
