53 Kitchen & Cocktails
Open Table needs to be fixed. This review is not about the restaurant - we assume it has good food and atmosphere. It is closed on Mon and Tues and clearly states on the restaurant web page and on their front door. We made reservations assuming Open Table would get the basics correct and showed at the front door only to be disappointed.
We made the reservation. We went there. It was not open. We were so disappointed. So we went to another restaurant and had a wonderful meal.
Love it here
The burgers were OUTSTANDING but, unfortunately, the Chicken Marsala was awful! The potatoes had no flavor and tasted like boxed potatoes. The rest of the meal was flavorless as well.
All was good, except the mussels were cooked in a manner completely different from the menu. The menu stated a traditional mussels dish- butter, garlic, parsley, etc. Instead I received mussels cooked in what appeared to be chopped habanero and jalapeno broth. FIRE! No resemblance to the menu, and inedible for me. Everyone was very gracious and surprised, and removed the mussels and the charge from our bill.
It's hard to find a good restaurant in Mammoth, but we are always happily surprised with 53. Fun and tasty options, good service, you should give it a try!
We had very mixed feelings about our dining expeience at 53 Kitchen & Cocktails. The ambiance was great and the cocktail menu was wonderful. The menu was varied and we were mostly pleased with our meals. The staff is very disorganized. Upon entering the restaurant we were told that there would be a 15 minute wait, before we were even asked if we had a reservation. I told the hostess that we made a reservation on Open Table and we were quickly seated. The restaurant was not full, but there were quite a few large parties in the dining room, so perhaps the "wait" for walk-ins was to pace the kitchen.
I ordered a cauliflower burger and it did not come out as advertised on the menu. It was supposed to be served with a lemon tarragon aioli, but that was missing. When I asked for it, I received something different that tasted like it had relish in it. The red onion jam on the burger was tasty. The warm salted pretzel bread was an excellent appetizer for the kids. The adults in our group enjoyed the cocktails! On Friday night, kids eat free, but there seemed to be a lot of confusion about that. The webpage advertises: "Kids Eat FREE (12 & Under) Fridays, 5PM–Close. 1 complimentary kids menu item per child with each adult entrée ordered." The hostess clarified that kids eat free with one adult entree from the Specialties portion of the menu. I ordered from the Burgers & Sandwiches portion of the menu since that was the only option for a vegetarian. Our server didn't know about Kids Eat Free and charged us full price. He seemed very flustered with the mistake.
Overall, this place is probably better for cocktails and adult dining. If you plan to eat here, don't bring the kids.
Over priced and small portion sizes. Empty restaurant at dinner time!
Loved the food and service, but a bit pricey! Beautiful place.
Decent bar food in Mammoth Village -- nothing special, though. Turkey burger and fries were both way too salty. Regular "Frieda" burger was cooked correctly to medium and pretty tasty. Cocktails were well done; good beer selection.
Staff was great, but food was very mediocre especially for the price. Cauliflower was too oily and so was the steak from the chimichurri sauce on both items. Food took too long to come out, for all tables. It was July 3rd, so expectedly busy, but they did not seem understaffed, so it did not warrant how long it took the entree to come out. Would not go back.
Pat was fantastic on his service! Give him a raise.
The ambiance and crowd did not match the website marketing at all.
Love it here!!
We did a last minute trip to Mammoth for some Sunday Ski time- the weather turned against us- but we enjoyed our night out for dinner! The restaurant has TWO parts, when we walked in to the left, they tried to sit us there, it was not visually comfortable, and there were no windows, and a table of kids... we are a couple who are happy to be out and about. I asked for the other room, she tried to sit us back in the corner again, by the rock wall Very cold. NOPE 3rd time was a charm, sat against the wall with the big material backed bench, watched the snow fall outside. if we did not get that seat, we would have left. The rest of the evening went along BETTER than expected. Loved the food, and our Server , and now new friend WALT is the BEST! we will be back! thanks again- Tina and Rob
We come to mammoth all the time and love 53 Kitchen, but their service & consistency has gone down hill. Even though their website states happy hour & different special (IE BOGO Burgers on Sunday) the wait staff does not seem to know their offers or honor them. As well when we walked in there was a huge line of customers & the hostess was sitting away from the host stand folding napkins not helping those waiting to be seated. The food is great, but they need to work on their management.
Restaurant ran out of milk and apple pie. Waitress did not offer to refill soda until we were done with our meal. Took a very long time for the waitress to drop off the check. Also took a long time for the waitress to pick up the check/payment for processing even though the place was not busy.
Spring skiing was excellently capped off with dinner!
Really god food and service. Will definitely go back!
Well we got there early and the manger said the couldn’t seat us early because of possible crowd coming off the mountain. The place was a ghost town. Went to the bar and had a fabulous old fashion .. that was about it for the night. My spouses chicken Marsala was rubbery and over cooked . She asked for double portion of veggies instead of the mashed potatoes . We had to pay extra for them and it was less than 1/4 cup total of veg. As we looked around only three tables were filled.. so much for that crowd . It was ok would not come back. Only good thing was the drink at the bar and the bar tender.
We had cauliflower bites for appetizer and then cauliflower burger for dinner (we are vegetarians). Food was very good!!
Great food, friendly wait staff...front desk could be more welcoming.
The food was very good. But the service was very slow. The server apologized that it was because there were "only 2 cooks in the kitchen," which was extremely irritating to hear because they weren't discounting the extremely high ski-resort prices to compensate. We still had to hold up our end by paying full price -- doesn't seem right. And because we weren't getting the attention we needed, we ate an appetizer without the salt it needed because the server was so busy we were unable to ask for salt before it would have gone cold. A glass of wine was sub-par but she was nowhere to be seen and so I drank it anyway. Just a lot of irritating moments when we were trying to celebrate our anniversary with a good meal. To end a positive note, though, we went to the bar afterward and had a wonderful house old-fashioned made by a lovely bartender.
The menu is a little light with options. We did not get what the menu described when we received our order. They were out of some key salad ingredients that made the salad. Little disappointed.
We had a group of 8 and the service was excellent! We had a wide variety of meals- some had burgers and others went for steak or salmon. The cocktails are great and a nice wine list. We loved it!
We had a great serve at 53. And no wait as we made a reservation. However, the food is not impressive with the exception of the pretzel bread. They do have an extensive cocktail list and the drinks were delicious.
We hit 53Kitchen every time we are in mammoth. We sit in the bar area for good, tasty easy food. The roasted cauliflower, their burgers, and their pretzel appetizer are fantastic and the salmon is out of this world! We always get really good service. Definitely on our list of regulars spots 😊
We made reservations for a special event to celebrate an old friend and were so very disappointed. The greeter/ receptionist was very rude and not to mention too young for this appointment. We arrived on time and was told we had to wait 15 minutes (there was only one other party in the place). We watched in astonishment when he turned 5 other parties away in the hour in which we were there. Still no one in the place. Food was over priced and marginal at best (cold, small portions, and nothing to talk about) The server was inattentive and couldn't even refill our water glasses. We went away very $250.00 poorer for 4 drinks, a bowl of soup, two chicken dishes and one fish dish plus service tip for 4 people. We came into town with a large Ski club and needless to say told the whole club (64 in attendance) not to bother going though the trouble to get into the place. Not at all what we remembered the place once was! Get this place off of your recommendation list. Not at all like your Open Table experiences in the past.
1 of the 4 entrees was sold out (7pm). Our Food took 50 minutes to arrive. No offer of even comping our dessert as an apology
The bar area was cute . The chicken wings were very good . The rest of the food ranged from inedible to ok. Pricey for what it was . Very disappointing !
How can you mess up a salad and a burger?
Our waiter would linger at awkward moments, not asking how things were, but would run away every time we needed something. Was frustrated by us wanting to put kids’ food orders in first. We were asked by two different people if we had reservations (which we did), after we were seated and acting like we were unwelcome. Food was solid. Beer was cold.
We ended up at 53 Kitchen & Cocktails for dinner, despite the bad reviews, because it was the only restaurant that had a table available. Our waiter was very courteous and took good care of us, the drinks were fun and unusual, the food was good, it was overall a very pleasant experience.
Food is ok but not very imaginative- they seem to have changed the menu
The ambiance is odd - very brightly lit and kind of stark
Service was rushed and manic
Ok - but Campo is way better
Great experience, super close to where we stayed. Great with young kids (5 and 4) and really solid food! Recommend reservations during busy ski weeks and holidays - but a must when you are in Mammoth!
We visited 53 two additional times after our first, we went to the bar area and enjoyed the happy hour menu far more than than the restaurant options. Just wish happy hour went past 4 pm, 5pm would be better.
Extremely over priced. 2 crab cakes $9.00 each. $18.00 for the appetizer.
We ordered 2 glasses of wine. VERY small pours. Very expensive. I have lived
in this town for 30 years now, never will I go back to this restaurant. To many
other places to go... and get a MUCH fairer deal.
The service is always great and the ambience along with the food are always very good!
For dinner we had a Quirky waiter with good service. Food was good too!
We came back for Apres Ski drinks the next day and the bar was great!! The bartender was slammed so it took a while to get our check.
Food was great. Salmon was excellent. Apple pie outstanding. Our server was great. plus discount for icon holders.
Great Village location
