5200 Restaurant @ Heritage House Resort
A couple of glitches, perhaps due to Wednesday staff, but taken care of promptly. Nice place to eat while staying at Heritage House
I wouldn't recommend (not that we didn't like it). We specifically asked our waitperson if the dinner meals were too large based on dishes ordered? She went out of her way to tell us that one of the dishes was quite small causing us to order another secondary dish. While we DID order two drinks, we were asked 3 separate times -- "what about ordering wine?" which was not necessary to do. Otherwise, the two dinners were well executed. Please, stop pushing customers to over order and that is why I won't recommend.
Food was not as good as expected for the price. We ordered martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives (the first cocktail listed on their cocktail menu) and the martini came 1/2 full and was made with olives in oil so there was oil floating on the top of the martini (gross). I had the crab cakes which were good, my husband had the filet which was under cooked and salty.
Better than anticipated. The food was outstanding and beautiful views.

Our waitress was friendly and excellent. The food was very good although it took a very long time for the main courses to arrive and given it was a quiet Tuesday night that was surprising. All of the main courses, particularly the meats (steak, pork chop, and crab cakes) were prepared and done perfectly. Biggest complaint is the lighting -- it's like a cafeteria. I understand wanting to use energy efficient bulbs but the right intensity needs to be selected (soft white); the bulbs in this restaurant were WAY to harsh.

We've eaten here before and it was wonderful. In fact the breakfasts are completely different. Friendly staff, great food. The dinner we had last was in the lounge, mostly appetizers.
This time dinner was disappointing. I couldn't count the number of times our waitress gave us her canned response "my pleasure" even on two hands. Brought he check before we had a chance to ask for coffee or desert. Food was under the quality I'd experienced a few years ago. Bland crab cakes, risotto not moist. Excellent trip-tip salad and Tomato Bisque soup, however. Possibly stick with appetizers / salad/ soup and forego the entree?
Great service and pretty views of the ocean, but the chef has a very heavy hand when it comes to seasoning and butter. More isn’t always better!

Food ok, but nothing special and not a place we would return to. Service was rudimentary and simple things like refilling water completely missing.
Had breakfast as well as dinner there.
Breakfast: blueberry pancake was a bit soggy, plain, and bland. Just 3 pancakes with a few small blueberries inside the pancake plus a scoop of soft butter. No other sides (e.g. a few fresh blueberries). My husband had omelette, and said it was fine.
Dinner: Our waiter was quite pleasant but it seemed that he was distracted. We ordered a cocktail and a glass of wine, but the wine never came. He recommended salmon for my entree, saying it came from Fort Bragg. This dish turned out to be the highlight of the dinner...tender, delicious, and cooked just right!
The “focaccia” bread we ordered was an ordinary 1/2 loaf of bread, I wouldn’t call it “focaccia”. The nuts that came with it were pretty good though, but not worth $7 for this side dish. Ended up leaving half of it on the table.
Enjoyed the setting and view through window.

From start to finish, my husband and I had a wonderful dining experience, our waiter, Kevin, was very friendly and attentive. Our cocktails were made just the way we like them, our food was delicious; we had the filet mignon and salmon. Our desserts were amazing! We will definitely be going back in the near future.
One of my all-time pet peeves is taking the time to make a dinner reservation, get dressed, get in the car, drive to a venue, wait in line for service, get to the front of the line and the telephone rings and the service person ignores me and answers the telephone. This happened at The Heritage House in Little River, CA Thursday Night. I made an Open Table reservation for dinner at The Heritage House Hotel/Restaurant and went to the front desk to check in. I waited patiently while the desk clerk finished checking in a hotel guest - probably five minutes. After problems explaining the use of keys and a lengthy explanation of directions to the room accommodations, the clerk was finished and the guest left for her room. I stepped to the front desk just as the telephone rang and the clerk gave me no recognition, no eye contact and answered the telephone on the first ring. She proceeded to have a conversation without even a glance at me standing three feet in front of her, Absolutely rude!

Breakfast was amazing and perfect! Staff and service was awesome. Dinner was not as desirable. It was okay. Dinner was expensive. Service at dinner was stellar.
The restaurant is convenient for those staying at the Heritage House inn, but it would probably not be a destination otherwise. During daylight hours the view would probably be quite lovely, since the inn overlooks the Pacific Ocean, but we dined after dark. The ambience is a very uneasy combination of elegance (white tablecloths, upmarket prices) and camp lodge (pass-through to kitchen, ordinary decor). There was a Christmas tree when we dined, eleven days after Christmas, but it was plastic and too short for the space. The menu was conventional with the usual steak, chicken, salmon, pasta. The food was of good quality and well prepared, but not inspired, and quite pricey.
Stayed at the resort over Thanksgiving and booked dinner at 52000. Overall the experience was mediocre and I should have checked dinner availability for Thanksgiving at other restaurants in the area. The dinner was a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at a prix fixe including soup, salad, entree and dessert. It was not overly expensive for this type of meal but the food was average at best. The soup was pretty good and well presented. The salad was overly simply and too salty. The Turkey was wells cooked, but it was not a true roasted turkey but instead a rolled one and it was not clear if it had been roasted on premise. The mashed potatoes were totally unimaginative and bland as the rest of the trimmings. The desserts were amateurish. I am glad I did not chose to pair the wine as I doubt any wine would have improved this boring meal. I think 99.9% of Americans who cooked a meal at home that day had something more tasty than what was served. The good thing is that is that there were no seconds and I did not end up with tasteless turkey food coma this year.
Horrible Thanksgiving meal. Processed turkey breast. No thanksgiving sides. A sour cranberry type gravy Worst meal I’ve ever had at Thanksgiving. No dark meat no pumpkin pie!
This place is so gloomy inside, we turned around and left. The lighting is dreadful, bright white LED spotlights that shine everywhere except on the tables were patrons are eating. They are sitting in total darkness. There are no candles on the table. No music. The party behind us said, “This restaurant has a very peculiar feeling.” How does no one at Heritage House notice this? In their defense, we did not stay so I cannot comment on the food.
I haven’t been to Heritage House for over 20 years and was looking forward to having dinner with friends. We waited at the front desk for 10 minutes as a line formed behind us. I finally had to go into the bar to look for someone to seat us. I found a woman who looked like she worked there and asked if she was the hostess. She answered, “ I could be” from there it got worse. We were seated at a half set table and had to wait over an hour to get bread and drinks. The food was cold and not very good...definitely not at all like it was years ago and way too expensive for the value and lack of decor. Our server was extremely inexperienced and did not communicate to us any problems with the kitchen or lack of service. Needless to say, I won’t be going back.
Nice service, but food was just ok for the price. Given how few people were there, food service was slow and food came out cooler than desired. Beautiful view and waitstaff really worked hard to make it a nice experience -hats off for the effort!
The wine list is limited but at least the selections are all Mendocino/Anderson Valley wines.
We stayed at Heritage House for the weekend and decided we'd have dinner at its restaurant. The food was good; the service was terrible. We would not eat here again. Our waiter brought us water and when we asked to order wine as well, he said "just a minute" delivered water to another table, fluffed the cushions at another table, and then went and stood in a corner. We had to call him out to take our wine order. He new nothing about wine. He brought the wrong order to the table next to us and then made excuses that "there was a language barrier." After bringing the meal, he never returned to see if everything was okay. He disappeared and we finally had to go up to the front desk to get our check. Someone went and got him and he came over and again made an excuse (no apology). The prices are very high for what you get. My husband's steak salad for $19 was the size of a small side salad. The view of the ocean is spectacular, but the inside of the restaurant is incredibly bland and somewhat shoddy. We spent $78 for a small salad, a cheese plate, some bread, and two glasses of wine. They need to get better staff and improve the restaurant appearance to match the prices they're charging.
Heritage house is back! We had a much better experience than across the highway 2 nights earlier. My filet was excellent as was my wife's pesto pasta with prawns. 6 giant juicy prawns cooked perfectly and the presto was just right not too overbearing. Great view, excellent service. We will definitely be back.
Excellent meal and service. We especially loved the Brussels sprouts which were plentiful to share. Also enjoyed the sole.
Food was good, but restaurant is severely understaffed. Long waits between courses with no one even checking in on us. Chatted with the other three tables in the room with us and all had the same experience. It’s a beautiful resort but they really need to up the game on the restaurant and bar. It hurts the whole experience.
Piano music was nice, but so loud you couldn't talk. Dinner service and food very poor. Had to ask twice about drinks. They actually brought soup well before drinks were served, then they got drink order wrong. Asked for bread with soup - did not arrive so we told waiter never mind about the bread. Did not realize at the time they charge for bread so manager "graciously" agreed to remove the charge from our bill! Shrimp pasta passable, salmon terrible - dry as a bone, flavorless. Had to peel off dried out top off the fish to find anything edible. Greens were so salty they were inedible as was the squash which was hard! Then the bill was wrong - charged for an extra drink. Breakfast service and food was better, but not nearly as good as other places nearby. Will not dine there again.
Lamb Chops were good but the broccolini vegetables were an overlooked mess. Strange waiter that talked about different dishes being really good but could not describe them very well. Ambiance and views need some work.
The meal was lovely but what really did it for us is our waiter, Kevin. He took care of us and made sure our meal was all that we wanted. Always ask for Kevin!
The manager was attentive and warm. Our table was wonderful with a view of the ocean. Unfortunately, my entree choice was a gristly filet with very undercooked vegetables. My husband's seafood stew was excellent. We had a table next to "The War of the Roses", which we understand was not the fault of the restaurant. However, it was my birthday dinner, and was spoiled by my choice of entree and the loud and lewd bickering of the table next to us. I would not go back again.
Not worth Groupon price based upon poor quality of entrees.
It needs more attention to details. They did not ask us about the special occasion, the table was very sparsely decorated and the service was slow.

Came here for New Years and enjoyed the 3 course tasting menu for $65/person. It was delicious and the service was great. I also enjoyed the live piano player.
Great job by 5200 during a power outage. Impeccable service and they got the kitchen up once power was restored. Kudos!
Tired ambience. Tired food. Tired service. This establishment needs to be retired or revitalized. Large, spare and unattractive dining rooms. You'll find better decor in a college cafeteria. Number this 5,200 on your list of local restaurant choices.While the view of the Pacific Ocean might make the dining room(s) more enjoyable, dining at night eliminates the view and heightens the shortcomings of the ambience. Compounding the sin, there was a strong odor of fish hanging in the air that emanated from the kitchen, possibly the trash. The menu choices are moderately appealing but lacking in execution. The dover sole chewed like shoe leather. Even the burger was overcooked with a side of soggy, oil-soaked French fries. There are far better choices on the Mendocino coast for your dining dollar. Take them!
