5 and Diamond Ratings and Reviews
I could not wait to try this restaurant for the first time and now I cannot wait to go back! I saw the restaurant featured on the "Savoring Harlem" special and my curiosity was peaked. I was there with three other people and we all enjoyed our dining experience. A true diamond indeed!
Although not a wide selection, I like their brunch options. Menu items are reasonably priced...and they are one of the few places in Harlem that offer unlimited drinks (mimosas, sangria, etc.) during brunch. The place is very small but cute...and overall I just enjoy the ambience. I definitely plan to make it a regular.
I had a crab cake benedict many times before in several different establishments so I knew what to excpect. This one unfortunately was dissapointing... crabcake benedict came as very dry/hard texture, could use as a hockey puck literally, I am not sure the reason.
Other than that the place although very small had nice ambiance and great bloody mary!
First went there on a Monday for the exceptional value Mac-n-Cheese Monday and cocktail specials. Food was tasty and the server was charming and engaging great but the food came out a bit haphazardly. The next I went there with a group of friends and had a totally indifferent server with similarly haphazard delivery of food. Even worse, one of the servers spilled food on one of my friends and they didn't offer to make amends by comping her something so she had to ask them to! I really want to like this place but it's a little inconsistent. I'll give them another try though.
I took my neighbor to this great neighborhood (and NYC) find for brunch, and she was so amazed. The food is delicious, the presentations beautiful. We had an excellent server, Emmanuel, and were treated so well by John, too. We loved our French toast and eggs selections. When we saw everyone else's brunch choices, we wanted those too! Alas, can't eat everything, so we will go back soon!
This space is bright and comfortable. I have been for lunch and, very often, for dinner and love it every time!
We had a four-top, and the service was absolutely impeccable. The food was delicious. We ordered the daily fish special and could not have been more pleased. The house cocktails were quite good, and the prices were reasonable.
The only reason I went with 4 stars is that they were out of a few things that would have been nice. Other than that, an excellent experience. We will be back.
I try to find something positive to say about each dining experience. However, I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. We ordered our first course and then waiting forever for them to arrive at the table. Once the table was cleared a waitress asked if we ready to see the dessert menu. Um....no..... having the entree before dessert is the usual way I eat a meal. They ran out of side dishes, ran out of the wine we wanted to have with our meal. Never again. And, you can be darn sure I won't be recommending this place to anyone.
John really took care of us! We spoke on the phone before coming in and he instantly reached out when we walked in. Our server Joe was very friendly and enthusiastic, helpful with the menu and ready to share his favorites. Good options for a variety of people.
I never got to eat there because when I arrived they told me they were closed for a private party and had tried to call me. That is untrue. They never called and this was a big inconvenience since I was visiting from out of town and went out of my way to go there. Also, it is NOT close to Columbia U. as they claim. At least a 20 min walk away. Bad experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed the quaint and intimate feel of the restaurant. The food was very well prepared and tasted great, but the portions were entirely too small. I dine out frequently and the plates that were presented to me and my party were by far the skimpiest ones I've seen. Had the dinner been part of a tasting menu I would have understood, but as a sole entree no. My party of 4 started with 3 shared appetizers and after dinner everyone commented on how they were still hungry and asked for an additional piece of bread in order to fill up.
Went there for brunch. The Bloody Mary and the Bourbon Champagne cocktail were excellent. They ran out of turkey sausage but subsituted it for chicken. Was a great idea, but that made my spinach omelette take for-e-ver...
I'd go there again for the drinks though.
the food was good. a Spanish Merlot recommended by the mgr was delicious. I had eaten there a few months ago, and this visit I found the food to be less inventive. I wasn't into the conservative switch...thought it might be reflective of the economy. The cooking was on point. Service measured and professional. I thought it was odd that we had mismatched glassware in a place not meant to be eclectic in style. Beet salad was a big hit. My partner had a mismatch with one of her dishes and the staff repaired the problem quickly.
This was a Valentine's day event that they had and for a 60 course meal the food was not impressive. Any other restaurant would have offered that kind of food as a normal dish. Duck was ok and short ribs were good but as I said not something for a "Special Menu"
In general the food is good. The prices are surprisingly high for the neighborhood.
We ended up paying 200 bucks for 2 people, which considering that it was a 60 usd prix fixe , was much higher thank expected.
The music was a bit unromantic, more latin jazz, which also was too loud for such a little place.
This is an absolutely delicious gem of a restaurant that has not been discovered amongst non-Harlemites YET. Oh, how they are missing out! It's got an intimate atmosphere- dimly lit at night, about 10 tables and a small bar. The service is uber-friendly and knowledgeable with an "aiming to please" vibe. For example, at my last visit, the waiter brought out multiple supplies from behind the bar to help my date get a red wine stain off his shirt. The food is an experience. Don't miss the truffle macaroni and cheese or the papparadelle.
This place is much smaller than I expected. Even though we had a reservation, we still had to wait 15 minutes. There was no place to stand and wait so that was awkward (it was freezing outside.) Luckily, they gave us all a complimentary drink for waiting longer. The host was great and the food was pretty good, however the service was a little off. We ordered a second drink and it never came. I think they need a bigger space for the vibe they're trying to set...but I understand that's hard in NYC!
We had the daily special which was duck with blue berries, artichoke and a sweet potato puree … awesome! We also had the mussels in a red curry based sauce that had some kick to it, it was very good too. Would definitely go back and try some of the other dishes.
This place just gets better - and busier - every time we go. Thanks to Open Table we still manage to find a table for brunch while walking through Central Park. The crab-cake benedict was awesome. The hash salmon with poached egg was surprisingly good. And the bloody marys retain their medal (bestowed by me) as the best in NYC.
Awesome, geniunely good service given how busy they are. Well worth the hike all the way up the length of the park for us each Sunday.
I would frequent this restaurant on the weekends and always enjoyed it. Have not been there in several months. Dined again this past Monday to celebrate a friends birthday and I was sorely disappointed. The menu was totally different then the weekend menu and had poor choices. I also noted a small sign at the bar saying cash only and when we were seated and gave our drink order and then our meal order I asked the waitress why there was a cash only sign at the bar and she casually replied, "Oh, our credit card machine is down so we are only taking cash." You think that we should be told that the minute we walked in??!!!
We had a wonderful dinner at 5 & Diamond. The food was very tasty (pork tenderloin, pappardelle, strip steak, gruyere mac & cheese) and the service was excellent. The staff made us feel very welcome and appreciated. I would definitely recommend 5 & Diamond.
Had read other reviews, which were split. Wanted to try anyway since it's near home. Went with 2 friends. Had a lovely time. Small, cozy restaurant. Went for the 5@5 Happy Hour. Tried Mac & Cheese, Mango Chipotle wings and Duo Sliders. All very tasty and good. Wait staff was very attentive. After our first round, they took away the dishes and utensils and replaced them with clean ones. That impressed me.
Only drawbacks that night - some menu items were not available and payment was cash only. I did not remember seeing the cash only payment listed on their website. Luckily our party had the cash to cover the bill and tip.
