Steak was delicious!
The food, as other reviewers have mentioned, is supberb....fresh, tasty and well prepared. A gem you wouldn't expect where it is. The only con was our server was fairly inattentive; we had to get the attention of bar staff to get refills on our drinks or other needs.
My husband an I had our very first date at the original location many years ago, and would go there often . Took my daughters there to relive the experience.
The burgers were inline with what you would pay at any other place and for the most part were good. we had 6 people in our party and 3 of the orders were wrong and had to be sent back. All of us had the fries but some had cheese sprinkle on them and some did not?
Not really fond of the "NO Price" menu. The food was good but, not worth the price It's ridiculous! Seriously 65-75 for a steak? at a Pub? Who would pay that for a steak at this place?
When asked about the price of the shrimp scampi? the reply was "well it depends upon how many shrimp you want in it". $7.00 per shrimp? Left me to wonder how much the butter and garlic cost.
It doesn't even include any sides.
The waitress was nice but, had trouble answering our questions.. which were not that difficult. We asked the cook about one of the Specials on the board, he couldn't even tell us what it was? He's the guy cooking it.
There is a reason the place only had 2 other customers besides us on a Saturday night.
Sorry 4th Base but you disappointed
Fantastic meal, as always. Highly recommended if you enjoy freshly prepared food!
TimK, 5 stars all around! Thanks so much for taking the time to review us. Lets do it again soon!
we were there before a Brewer's day game and it was a fantastic experience! Great food and outstanding, friendly service. There is no place like 4th Base. If you are in Milwaukee for a game, you must check it out! This Chicagoan wishes we had it here.
JanetH, Thanks so much for your review. I am glad you enjoyed yourself and appreciate what we do! Thanks CJ 4th Base
Al a carte seafood and steaks, that being said the food was amazing! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable a out the steaks and seafood. Had a wonderful time, highly recommended. Also at least 6 big screen tvs to watch sports on.
BrandonV, Thanks you so much for dining with us and sharing your experience. I hope we can do it again soon. CJ 4th Base
My husband surprised me with Billy Joel tickets at Miller Park AND he found what sounded like a pretty interesting and unique dinner spot. Boy, was he correct! 4th Base is a laid back, sports memorabilia filled cool place! Thankfully we had reservations (on a concert night and I am sure a ball game night) they are busy and popular....and we can totally see why.
We were greeted at the door, and our reserved table was ready with a unique way to “reserve” a 4th Base coaster with my name and the time of our reservations....along with the next reservations coaster so we could gage our table time....and we had plenty!
Marisha (hopefully spelling correctly) our server, greeted with such a friendliness and welcoming attitude. She explained they have no menu....yep NO menu. We followed her over to the butcher counter filled with amazing delicious options. (Hamburger, Steak, Pork, Chicken.....Shrimp for cooking and shrimp cocktail along with several fish, scallops and crab legs!! On the top shelf was a bountiful display of vegetable and there was pasta as well!
CJ, the talented and masterful cook (and we never did the names of his assistants) was working his magic as we decided what yummy meal we wanted him to make. Marisha went to the bar to order our very flavorful and classic whiskey old fashioned’s.....and then we ordered our fabulous meal.
We met Marisha at the table and our drinks arrived along with our crab stuffed mushroom and shrimp cocktail that was all to die for. Our meal arrived hot, flavorful and more food that either of us could eat!
All prepared exactly as we asked.
Marisha told us about the homemade delicious cheese cake and of course my husband HAD to have it....wow it was amazing!
Sadly we had to leave to get to our concert but, we left our car....at 4th Base so we could come back after for a snack and late night cocktail....and we did!
If you are a laid back, go with the flow person....this is a great spot for you. Enjoy!
JKohler, Thanks so much for such an in depth review of our place! BillyJoel was an amazing crowd of customers and I am glad you had a great time with us. I look forward to getting your group in again soon sometime! Thanks! CJ 4th Base
Best restaurant in milwaukee. Change my mind.
Four of us for lunch before the ballgame. It was outstanding!!!
Great food and drinks. This place is pricey but the quality is right up there too. Everything is priced separately. I will be back.
Don’t be fooled by the appearance/ambiance of this place. The quality of the food is top notch! The concept of selecting the type of, the amount of, the combination of, food you would like is each toy what a dining experience should be. It’s a bit pricy but worth every dollar. Sit in the backroom if you want to avoid the bar scene/area.
RichO, Thanks so much for the kind words! I am glad you enjoyed yourself and thanks for reminding readers about our back dining room. We have the ability to provide a sit down dining experience for customers as well and not just the bar-feel experience. Thanks so much for dining with us! CJ 4th Base
The food here is top notch. Pick whatever your in the mood for from the deli case and the chef will whip you up something amazing!
RobertL, Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed your experience. Spread the word! CJ 4th Base
The food here is really pretty good. I understand that you get what you pay for, but the prices seem a bit inflated for a dive bar style restaurant. We are also used to hearing prices for food, which is fine if that isn't their style, but I expect a warning when a steak is going to be $65 (have had better cuts for better prices at a number of establishments). The food prices might have been able to be taken in stride if the bartender had been friendly and the drinks weren't a gouge (again, this place is a nice dive, but a dive nonetheless). When we saw what we were getting charged for drinks it gave us a "you're kind isn't welcome here" sort of feel (like they were artificially inflated because we weren't regulars). It's worth a try for a delicious burger, but not much past that in my opinion. I have to re-iterate, they do NOT cut corners on food.
Good Morning, I appreciate you taking the time to mention in your review how good our food is. We pride ourselves on a quality, top notch food product, and I am glad that you see that. I am sad to hear that you did not feel welcomed. I train myself to welcome everyone, and to engage with them and the fact you feel you received the opposite treatment, I do not like. I would love to hear more about this. Please message me at the4thbase@yahoo for more follow up. Thanks! CJ 4th Base
Write up sounded interesting the reality was another story. Let's start with a "chef" who looked like he just got pulled from a homeless shelter. The baked potato was steamed and undergone. The steak was ok but not much better and my guest who I have seen eat two walkeye filets that weemre fresh and well prepped did not finish his. I guess as a pre or post game venue it is as good as it will get but otherwise definitely not a revisit
DHCDOC, Thanks for taking the time to give us some feedback. I am not sure what write up you are referring to but I am sorry we didn't meet the expectation set from it. The "chef" you are speaking of has been working with us for many years and although is not easy on the eyes, is known to do a good job in the kitchen. I would like to know more specifics on the Walleye and what your guest didn't enjoy so we can pass it on to the "chef" for constructive feedback. CJ 4th Base
Fantastic food! Fantastic service! It IS a bar and it feels like a bar. It is NOT bar food! You have to go into it knowing that there are no menus/prices (which should be a clue that it will NOT be cheap). Everything is fresh and cooked RIGHT THERE, how you want it (you can discuss directly with the chef). You don't expect to walk into a bar and pay such high prices...but the food you get is what you would order at a 5 star restaurant, just without the tablecloths and surrounded by tv monitors, watching a sporting event.
Everyone that lives or visits Milwaukee, should make this a MUST stop! Such great history!
Canuck, Thanks so much for such kind words and positive feedback. I am glad everyone enjoyed there experience and hope to get you back in again soon. CJ 4th Base
No paper menus. No prices listed. Was able to get only what you wanted. Steaks done perfectly. Very friendly staff.
I appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review. I am glad you enjoyed your 4th Base experience. Cj 4th Base
Food was outstanding! Service was great.
Thanks for the kind words! Lets do it again soon. CJ 4th Base
Very pleased with the servers knowledge and personable service. Equally impressed with the chef checking in on our dining experience not once, twice, but THREE times during our visit. Overall GREAT first experience, we will definitely be back again and recommending others join us!!
Thanks so much for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed your experience and hope to get you in again soon. Feel free to enter your email for marketing materials sent from us and updates on events, food, and more! Cj 4th Base
Stopped in a couple of times. Traditional West Allis/Milwaukee bar. Staff were very friendly. Food was excellent, made with passion for good food. For someone that is a bit more adventurous i love that was no menu. Tell them what you like and they will give you suggestions. I loved my bacon wrapped shrimp, crab stuffed portabella mushroom and stuffed jalapeños! My husband was grated with steak tips that the owners son whipped up for him ! So delicious! It is a bit pricey so be prepared but well worth it!!!!
Thanks so much Lisa. I am glad you enjoyed your seafood platter and your husband enjoyed his steak tips. We look forward to spending another afternoon with you again! Thanks. CJ 4th Base
VERY over priced for quality of food. Bar somewhat dirty. Steaks tough. 2 inch stuffed mushroom was $20 for 1. No menu. Ala cart. Not worth it. Could have gone to fine dining and been waited on with all the extra for the price.
Daisy, I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy yourself. Please keep in mind that the mushroom was Alaskan King Crab stuffed and made in house. It is a very unique experience and it isnt for everyone. Thank you for dining with us and thanks for leaving us your feedback. CJ 4th Base
It was a great place for the evening food was awesome will come again love it
Thanks Kevin! Lets do it again soon. CJ 4th Base
Hidden gem! Always excellent food, and just a unique experience.
Thanks so much for the 5 stars! Hope we can get you back in again and do it again. CJ 4th Base
Great seafood tonight. Low key atmosphere, not fine dinner but definitely great food. Learned from posts before we went, just ask how much things cost either per piece or per lb. We had a full seafood extravaganza king crab leg, lobster tail, shrimp, scallops... about $200. Happy with the price considering my husband was having a field day picking from the case.
They don't have a set menu...just a refrigerated glass case with ingredients. You give them an idea of what you want based on the ingredients and they make you an amazing meal!
No drink or food menus. It’s a made to order kitchen. Have something in mind that you want before you go.
Sports bar covered wall to wall to wall with great sports memorabilia. Menu on the wall, but the chef(s) will cook anything thing in the display case the way you want it. Bacon wrapped scallops and the bone-in ribeye is always my favorite. freshly stuffed jalapeno poppers were delicious.
very pricey and no prices listed online, which is disappointing. But outstanding fresh seafood, service very above average
Why serve food here - if you have no pride in what you serve. We knew it was neighborhood pub, thats not the problem, when charging $70 for crab legs - stand behind it -it wasnt fresh, it wasnt a lb. Chicago has great neighborhood pubs selling Alasken CrabLegs - basket of them for $30 - We were not afraid to pay $70 for good food - but not for what served Sat. Visit HalfShell - better yet - take crab off your menu. It was a turn off of your neighborhood pub.
Unlike my previous visit one of the chicken breast entrees was tough. $40 is steep for a chicken meal at any restaurant.
Good restaurant/bar which doesn’t look like much from the outside but has a cool concept of displaying fresh food in a refrigerated section and you pick your items and tell the cook how to make it.
Pre-game dinner... great food, friendly staff easy access to Miller park!
Highly unusual, highly fun places. Food is amazing for a sports bar, although not cheap.
Food was great, server was excellent (Jennifer). Took almost 2 hours for food to come out.
We went to Fourth Base at the recommendation of a friend and we were thoroughly impressed!! The service was amazing, our waitress Gail was super nice and helpful! The food was to die for. We met the owners son who came over to check and see if we were enjoying our food and brought some appetizers to try. The steaks, filet and ribeye were cooked to perfection and the bacon wrapped sea scallops were huge!! Make sure you don’t leave without trying the homemade cheesecake!!
Food and service was outstanding
I took my two sisters, friend and my wife there for the first time. We were going to the brewers game and my sister's birthday. The food was great and the server was very knowledgeable. Everything was served in a timely matter. No complaints at all!!
Thanks for the great time.
This was a little different than I expected. You pick everything you want and he cooks it. Food was very good but pricey. Waitress was outstanding, pleasant and patient.
We were very surprised that this place was a bar setting, no white table cloths as pictured. Would be able to find just as good food without going to Milwaukee!
Would not return, thought food was over priced for location and setting.
The chicken Alfredo was fantastic. The price on the jumbo bacon wrapped shrimp was 8.00 a piece and so was the scallops. When you first walk in its a bar, then they take you back to a little room with a few tables. It was good foo, but because of the prices I would not go back. If it was a fancy place with more choices I would. It was worth trying 1 time. Just make sure you ask the prices before you order since they don't have menus.
Good and fresh food. Unique method used to order. Ridiculously overpriced for both food and drink. Atmosphere of an old corner tavern - fine with me - but priced like a 5 star fine dining establishment.
