40 North Tap + Grille, a New Upscale American restaurant in Downtown Grand Island. Owned by Jay and Jan Vavricek, 40 North Tap + Grille and its 9,000 square feet historic building with arched ceiling rafters are being recreated into a contemporary rustic setting that will welcome customers with true Nebraska hospitality from chef created dining upfront, a west side patio, and a sports lounge and event venue. Grand Island’s geographical location is 40 degrees North and 98 degrees West. “The 40 North name is derived from those coordinates, to pinpoint where we are from. “We want to celebrate the communities and the people that make living in central Nebraska so great,” said Vavricek. “Our mission is to be locally owned, locally grown, and locally enjoyed. Keeping in mind the ‘scratch kitchen’ philosophy, we will feature local, wholesome and fresh ingredients.”

So pleasant to have another nice restaurant choice in Grand Island. Great food and our servicer (Kate) was fabulous. We will be back.

The food is overpriced, especially for the portion sizes provided. The portion sizes are very small. The ribeye was $45, but the server couldn’t tell me the steak size when I asked. Nice ambiance but not worth the money. They even charge for Coke refills after bringing you a glass full of ice. They didn’t tell us refills were extra. Compared to other high end restaurants, it’s definitely not worth the price. Odyssey, Prairie Creek Winery, and other similar restaurants costs less, have larger portions, nice ambiance, and great tasting food.

This was our 2nd dining experience here. We had reservations for a group of 10 on new years eve. I tried to add 2 to our reservation, ahead of time, but was told we could not. So there ended up being 8 of us because 2 had to stay behind and eat with the other 2 in which they couldn't get a reservation until 845 pm. We were booked for 645 pm. Right away we noticed many many open tables, and they stayed open. We told the other party of 4 to come early to see if they could be seated, they came and were told they could not. When we questioned all of the open seating, one table remained open for nearly 2 hours, there were at least 3 other tables open at all times, the waitress got argumentative and said would you like to see my seating chart. She acted like she may have been mgmt but very poor customer skills. Another waitress actually over heard and seated our friends. During our entire duration there, there were always multiple tables open. Food was excellent. I feel you lost alot of business by not booking properly and poorly managed, I did not get her name, she had reddish hair. She seemed over worked and covering too much area. We were also supposed to be seated in sports bar area as we planned to stay for comedian, but we weren't seated there, and it was too full when finished eating so we left. Hopefully you figure out the staffing and booking issues because it's a beautiful place and great food but the way we were treated left a foul taste with our party of 12. Thank you. Amy Fischer

What happened to the quality of food here? On our previous visits the food was good but not this time. Compared to the other times I had the shrimp scampi this time the shrimp was tiny and tough and the pasta wasn’t fresh. The hickory smoked brisket had a large amount of fat on it and lacked flavor. We won’t be going back there anytime soon.

Enjoyed our time there very much. It’s nice to know there is another nice restaurant in the Tri-Cities region. I personally felt my steak was too salty, but the rest of the table thought theirs was seasoned perfectly. We all loved the brussel sprouts! It was slightly noisy in there, but there were a few large holiday party groups eating at the same time. It was nothing that could be avoided. Overall, very nice place to eat.

The restaurant is a beautifully renovated store with exposed brick and beams and rich dark tones. The hostess was delightful and we were seated right away. The menu is only two pages, but held a wonderful selection of items. The bruschetta was some of the best I’ve had, a must try. Both my colleague and I had the bone in ages ribeye prepared medium rare. The steaks were done perfectly and the Brussels sprouts were incredible. A really nice touch was that the steak was sliced but left connected to the bone. It presented as a whole uncut steak but the slicing made it very easy to consume, BRILLIANT! I will make 40 North my main place to eat when in Grand Island and I will recommend it to all. I gave 4 stars on service only because our server seemed new, but it did not detract from the overall experience. I gave value 4 stars because at $45 for a Grand Island restaurant, it seemed a little aggressive, but I would do it again.

I greatly appreciate having an upscale restaurant in Grand Island, the city of fast food. This is a very nice venue. My wife's food was very good, she had the steak filet. The over roasted chicken was overdone for me, dark meat mushy and white meat super dry. Some of the prices were a little high. I don't recommend siting near the pathway coming from the kitchen as we were asked too often how we were liking our meal. Will pick a table farther away next time. :) Overall, a great addition to GI. Not perfect yet but a nice change from fast food joints or a diner when you want to go somewhere upscale.

Excellent place and ambiance. It’s a bit pricey however the food is awesome. The music playing was too loud but if it was turned a down a notch it would have been perfect. Excellent food and great drinks. Staff is wonderful and friendly.

I thought making a reservation for a Saturday evening would ensure quick service. I was disappointed to find that while we were seated quickly, it was several minutes before we got water. It was several more minutes before we saw our server. Long enough that we had completely decided on drinks, apps and entrees before she stopped by. She was busy, but even a "hi- I'll be right with you" would have been nice to hear. We were seated directly behind a large round table with 4-5 couples who had been drinking- it was VERY loud due to the high ceilings. The wine (Moscato glass) was good, but it would have been WAY cheaper to buy the bottle. The calamari was OK- slightly overdone, but crisp. The server offered to bring bread, but it did take some time to get out to us. I believe it is bread from Back Alley Bakery in Hastings- it was light and tasty also. I had the pork chop- medium. SUPERB! It was very tasty. My husband had the chicken alfredo, which he said was good, but nothing special. Overall- the building is amazing, the Moscato is very good, and the food is good. The service was slower than expected for a 50% full restaurant- there were multiple opportunities for the water/bus personnel to pick up tables/dishes, etc.

Still early to rate them on service. Seems they're still working out some kinks with wait staff and the hostess. We had a table reserved for 6:15 but did not get seated until almost 6:45. $40 Ribeye was okay, did not taste like it was aged as long as the description and price point. Nice bar and sports area in the back.

I was looking forward to a great ribeye. It was not anything that I would order again and did not feel that it lived up to the description. I also felt that small things such as charging 3$ for a sample of a beer that I was unsure if I wanted to order was tacky and unnecessary. I did appreciate the waterfall and seating.

What a nice addition to Grand Island dining! The food was excellent. We all had the filet which was so flavorful and tender. I read earlier reviews lamenting the selection of wines by the glass. This had certainly been addressed with very good choices. Loved the decorations too and service was terrific. We’ll be back when we come to visit our family.

The service at 40 North was impeccable. That is one thing I really pay attention to, and I was pleased to find that every single employee I encountered was very friendly and eager to please. One even offered to take my picture with my mom when we were trying to take a selfie. Brianna, our server, was very sweet and professional. Lino was great, too. You've got a great staff and I loved the atmosphere. The prices are fair for the quality and experience. Grand Island needs this! Thank you!

Food very good. Wine choices (for a glass) are not good. You have one choice in each category and the wine is not good. Additionally, the poor is short. This is disappointing even if the food is good.

Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about drinks and menu items. Seating was prompt. Seating was comfortable. I like the decor. It was farmish but eloquent in its own way. Well done. The drinks were a little weak. But the food was tasty. The lobster tail was slightly underdone and a little chewy but had good flavor. The fillet was cooked to perfection and delicious. We all enjoyed our dining experience and will boast to others about it. We will return.

It was are Anniversary so we made reservations to go to 40th North. We were shown to are table right away. The place is new so it was clean and very nice inside. The food was very good, as well as the service. The chef even stopped at are table. They even had a card signed by everyone for our anniversary, nice touch. The prices are high.

We loved the atmosphere! So nice to have a place like this in Grand Island finally!

The food was very good! Our table had everything from steak to fish and each entree was delicious. We got the fried mozzarella app and the shrimp app and both were very good.

Our only negative was the service. However, we got a new server so I think it was just that. She tried very hard, but the drinks were slow and overall service was a bit awkward. We know that happens, especially when training new staff at opening, so we are still excited to come back!

The ambience is unique and the service was very good. I was delighted that the sides did not include brussel sprout or mushy risotto. You should only eat risotto in your own home or Italy. I liked the variety in menu choices. The halibut I ordered was slightly overcooked but overall very tasty. The disappointing things were shallow pours or wine and the only two steak choices were $37-$40.

I took my dad to 40 North for his birthday and was blown away by when we sat down and the host handed him a card signed by the staff wishing him a ‘Happy Birthday’. The food was amazing and everyone was so nice!

We loved it so much we bought a 100 dollar gift card for my brother’s wedding gift. We ordered the ribeye and pasta. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing! Fresh and not over seasoned, so we could taste the true quality of the dishes. We are from Denver and we distribute
Imported high end wines, therefore we are very picky about the restaurants we eat at. We loved you! What a nice addition to Grand Island! Thanks for the experience. The staff was also very cordial
