We were celebrating a birthday. A bit noisy for intimate conversation, but the service was a 10 and very friendly. Our entrees were wonderful and good sized portions, reasonably priced. At the end of our meal, the waitress brought the birthday person's dessert with a candle in it...nice touch! We will definitely come back here again and again.
The service was just perfect with a waitress that knew the menu and wine-list and helped with pairings on the menu.
The pasta dishes were very creative and delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant was antique 60's with color and graceful lighting.
Food and Service were excellent. We were visiting Portland from Seattle and found the food to be very well thought out with lots of flavor. Service was timely, professional and fun.
The one drawback for me, was the lighting. I had a difficult time reading the menus small print with limited lighting at the table. I left my glasses in the car, so that was part of the issue but I usually can read the menus without my glasses in this case, I couldn't. I still highly recommend the menu and restaurant.
I'd gotten a gift certificate for Christmas, and invited friends to join my partner and I for blood orange sours which I had tasted at a previous gathering, and couln't wait to taste again, and introduce to others. As we sipped our drinks, we were so tempted by the appetizers that we ordered several, and they did not disappoint! That led to us ordering 2 plates of the penne with tomato vodka sauce and sausage to share. All of that was topped off by plates of wonderfully fresh and tasty bread with a bean spread or butter. Suffice it to say, we were stuffed and content by the meal's end. It was the perfect backdrop for great conversation, and connecting with our friends for the first time in the new year. Oh, the ambiance was casual and comfortable, and the service was just the right blend of attentiveness, and lettting us enjoy the experience. I am very lucky to have such a lovely restaurant right in my neighborhood!
Very nice environment. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Menu was more limited that recalled from previous visit. Presentation and food were very good. Will return.
3 Doors Down never disappoints and Sunday evening was no exception. Two standouts for the evening were the on tap manhattan which was fig infused bourbon with black walnut bitters--absolutely excellent and an appetizer of pugleise with chevre and a wonderful mushroom sauce. Pasta is uniformly prepared well and house red pinot noir was very good.
Very god food but the lighting was an it dark. Price was fair. I would come back again.
This restaurant is consistently delicious!!! Save room for the banana cream pie. It is the BEST!
Three Doors Down is the best. My husband and I went for dinner on NYE and it was fantastic. We were really impressed by the appetizers, entrees and cocktails. Everything was extremely good. We'll be back! (I recently went to celebration dinner at Ruth Chris and paid twice as much for very generic food - I don't know why anyone would want to go there over Three Doors Down's excellent menu.)
Four of us were present for New Year's Eve, and once again, this restaurant outshined itself. The appetizers, salads, and main courses were out of this world. Duck confit, Dungeness Crab with pasta, and outstanding and creatively prepared chicken breast, were beautifully prepared and delicious.
This restaurant has been around for a couple of decades and while it does not get the annual pop from local reviewers, since there are so many good places in Portland, 3 Doors Down is consistently fabulous, with a well prepared and efficient wait staff. I can't recommend it strongly enough.
New Year's Eve spent at 3 Doors Down was an evening well spent. Even with the expected crush because of New Year's the service and food were the usual top tier quality. Highly recommended!
3 Doors Down is a great value and came through again for a special night out with relatives this time. This place is consistently on the requested night out list for my wife and I as well as our family when they come to stay with us.
The warm bread and bean spread is a favorite and you cannot go wrong with any item on the menu. Consistent quality and a great bar (make sure to try the cocktail on tap) are delivered by a friendly staff.
Meeting friends visiting from Tennessee
have been going to 3 doors down for several years and it still an outstanding special place for us. We use to take our daughter there and now when she visits we always make a trip there to enjoy the meals and people.
I've been eating at 3 Doors Down for 20 years. It's so consistently great. Unpretentious, confident, relaxed, decidedly untrendy, a true neighborhood spot.
I am quite partial to the pasta with vodka sauce and sausage, always a staple on the menu, and the seafood fra diavola. The caesar salad is the best in the city. But everything is good. Had a pork chop last night that was divine.
The Manhattan on tap, briefly aged in an oak barrel, is also the best in town.
Love the tiramisu.
A fine wine list.
3 Doors Down is reasonably priced, large portions, attentive, with friendly but unobtrusive service.
It rarely makes the Best in Portland lists but runs circles around the Italian restaurants that do.
I'm an Italian food snob and it's my go to restaurant in Portland.
Always wonderful! What a gem! One of the finest restaurants in Portland.
This place is a rare Portland combination of exquisite food, attentive and warm but not overbearing service, and cozy ambience. And Manhattans on tap to boot! You can't find better in Portland.
Excellent service !!!!! excellent food!!!!! First time there but will come again. I'm not a fancy food girl so the pork chop (which was cooked perfectly) with brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes was right up my alley.
We tried this place based on reviews and weren't disappointed. They were very accommodating in allowing our party to change our reservation
The ambiance was very nice and not too noisy. The food was tasty and not exhorbitantly priced. Food and drink service was prompt.
The service was impeccable. Our server was very nice, informative and attentive. She helped us celebrate without prompting. A very nice touch on her part.
We will definitely come again and will definitely recommend this restaurant.
We were seated immediately by a cheerful woman. I like the cozy ambiance and the food was delicious. Hubby had the special- spaghetti and meatballs and I had the sole. It was perfectly cooked and I spooned up every bit of the light and flavorful broth at the bottom of the bowl. Very satisfying!
Fantastic service and great food! We will definitely be back!
Four of us had dinner together at Three Doors Down. It was my third time at this restaurant. Consistent with other visits each person's meal was exceptional. In addition our waitress this time was super on top of her game, enthusiastic, attentive without interfering with our table conversation, helpful with one guests dietary restrictions, and a joy! The only negative comment I can make is that this is a small restaurant and it can be a bit noisy and that noise level can interfere with conversation.. but that is not enough of a problem to keep me away. Thanks for a great evening.
Foods was fabulous, service was a excellent, especially excited to see a speciality wine from Sicily on the dessert menu.
Each time I dine at 3 Doors Down, I ask myself, from first bite of the soft, beautiful bread to the last morsel on my plate, "why do I not come here more often?"
We recently brought a San Francisco foodie and her husband to the restaurant and they loved it.
The menu is accessible, tempting, and worthy of exploring. It is not confusing, daring, challenging, or pretentious. But not every meal wants to be a challenge.
3 Doors Down is a delightful haven for comfort food prepared for rich, belt-busting satisfaction.
This time round we had both styles of gnocchi on the appetizer menu and we were fighting over who would get to finish them. Moans of pleasure were heard.
The butter lettuce salad was a tad heavy on the dressing for my taste this time, but not the previous time when I was here last month, so I think in general they hit it right.
We've ordered pastas, chicken and steak and everything has been lip-licking tasty with ZERO leftovers. Too good not to eat every bite.
The bottles of wine we've ordered have been terrific (and my husband makes Oregon Pinot Noir, so we appreciate fine wine).
Parking is a frustration here...but for any restaurant in close-in Portland that's pretty much the case. 3Doors Down is really close to the bus route on SE Hawthorne, though. And for out-of-towners the location is great for strolling Hawthorne and sampling Powell's books, Blue Star donuts, McMenamins Bagdad Bar & Theater, Waffle Window, the cigar bar...and so much more.
My husband and I dine here a couple of times a year. It is always good and prices are, we think, very reasonable for the quality of the food. Cocktails are prepared very well. The menu has a balance of pasta, seafood and meat dishes. I ordered pasta this time, and it seemed overcooked to me, but was still yummy. My husband's pork chop with roasted Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes was excellent. We shared banana cream pie for dessert. It was superb (drizzled with salted caramel sauce). Service here has always been good.
Always impressive in every way -- keep up the great work!
Fabulous tasty meal !
Our top dinner experience in Portland in years .
We will be back.
Should be everyone's go-to place for steadfast and delicious comfort food with a regular twist of innovation. Service is quality and homegrown. It keeps on giving the gift of food prepared and served with love.
My wife and I frequently eat in the bar for 3 Doors Down's outstanding happy hour but it had been a while since we'd sat in the dining room and ordered off the full menu. The food was excellent, the service was ok. Been coming to this restaurant for years and have never had a bad meal!
This is a great place to bring family, friends, or business associates. Whenever we have customers visiting from out of town, we make sure to bring them here for dinner. Everyone we bring here is very impressed. A visit to 3 Doors has become a standard event on all our visitor agendas. A night at 3 Doors is a given for all friends and family.
The food is always consistently great at this charming Hawthorne-area restaurant. The eclectic menu is a Northwest/European with the freshest ingredients. The rigatoni with vodka sauce and sausages is simply sensational, and the pork chops a revelation. Cocktails are their specialty.
This is one of our favorite Northwest restaurants--as good as anything Tom Douglas operates in Seattle.
Three Doors Down always delivers! Been coming here for years the food and the service are consistently fantastic.
Delicious food and wonderful service
My wife and I had our very first date at Three Doors Down in November 8 years ago, so we go back every November to celebrate, and it's always been great. The food, the service, the cocktails, we love everything about it. And yes, once in a while we do go to Three Doors Down even when it's not November.
I love that 3 doors down is still part of Portland's dining scene. They consistently offer a great meal before hype. I only wish I lived closer!
One of my favorite restaurants in Portland! Everything was delicious! Great service!
Wonderful meal on a wet and dreary day. Never have had a bad meal. Always tasty and good portions. The white bean spread alone is worth the drive.
Not your standard neighborhood Italian restaurant: unusual dishes as well as some classics, good service, and simple, modern decor. We'll be back!
First time there and the four of us all enjoyed our meals. Service was great . We will be back.
