Delicious Italian food using fresh ingredients. Friendly and casual, tables well spaced. Shared appetizers of chicken liver pate with grilled bread, capers and onions plus fried marinated mushrooms. Mains of squash soup, ricotta cavatelli with meatballs and broccoli raab, and a very lightly battered Petrale sole. Excellent! We all noted that each dish was good. Desserts - banana cream pie, tiramisu. Will definitely return. Shout out to our server who magically refilled our water glasses while remaining almost invisible, who was so helpful with recommendations and with who we had a lovely chat when leaving.
Dennis was an excellent server! We truly appreciated him and his service! Thank you!
Bland food - nothing special about the menu. Nice salad.
Love the new staff!
My husband and I were delighted with our dinner at Three Doors Down. Our table was cozy right by the window. We were greeted warmly by the host and server. My squash soup was fantastic and my husband thought his rock fish was delicious. We would definitely go back.
Really enjoyed the meal and service. The new owners are off to a great start. The scallop appetizer was excellent. They are known for the vodka sauce, and it is delicious. The Manhattan and the blood orange sour were both tasty cocktails. I’ll be back.
Owner came to the table to ask how everything was. Food was delicious and we were able to take our time without being rushed out. A++
We made reservations for a 60th birthday. I noted that it was a birthday in the opentable reservation. It was a little disappointing when we got there because we waited at least 5 minutes until someone spoke to us about a table - and there were staff passing us by. At no time did anyone acknowledge the birthday. That said, after we were seated, the service and food was very good - but a bit pricey. It is a noisy place. I remember when it was smaller and cozier.
Everything was very enjoyable until the noise level made it difficult to hear one another at our table of four.
Lovely as always. We really like the new waiter, Kay Ray (sp?). Good hire!
The food was amazing, service wonderful! We will definitely be back.
We have been going to 3 Doors Down for years. We returned this weekend for an anniversary dinner. The place is still stellar. Excellent food, service, and environment. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Always a favorite in our family, we've been regulars here for years; food and drinks are always top-notch, but it's really the people that make this place special. Recently, I had the pleasure of celebrating my mother's 73rd birthday here and the 3 Doors crew went out of their way to make it special - thank you!
3 Doors Down is one of our favorite restaurants. We've been going there for 10 years, and it has been consistently great; from cocktails to appetizers to pastas and entrees, we have never had anything that wasn't wonderful. And yes, they don't lower the quality when it comes to deserts...I've never been a big fan of banana cream pie, until I tasted the one they serve here. It's really something.
The food and staff are outstanding. We make it an annual event to dine at 3 Doors Down for a birthday. I will say for us, the only negative is the neighborhood. Parking is terrible and there are shady characters to deal with. There also was a homeless person sleeping not far from the front door. If 3 Doors Down was in a better neighborhood, we would dine there more often.
Wonderful, innovative food and friendly, helpful staff.
New server was unimpressive.
Always great food and service. It is a “go to” spot for out of town clients and friends.
I've been going to 3 Doors Down for 25+ years and this was by far the worst experience that I have ever had there. First of all, the staff didn't even take the time to introduce me to the new ownership even though I have been a loyal customer who has gone there 3 to 4 times a week for decades. Also, this evening, if I didn't point out that I still hadn't had my dinner after 45 minutes, I'd still be waiting for my dinner.
Over the last 25 years, I have probably recommended 3 Doors Down to in excess of 100 individuals. I will let every single one of those folks know that I will never go there again.
Wonderful food, people, atmosphere! Too bad they are closing.
Hi DannyH. We're not closing! Just a change in management! We'll be here for you!
Environment was loud and disturbing, and the seating was so tightly packed and uncomfortable. Service was okay; it was busy and I could feel the inattention. The service didn’t feel personable. The kitchen was so backed up that we waited over an hour for our food. While the food was okay, it didn’t warrant the price we paid. We will likely not return.
My gender queer spouse and I had dinner at 3 Doors Down before going to a show downtown. It was perfect. We were greeted warmly, given a table by the window, and our server was friendly and helpful without being overly intrusive. The cocktails were unique and well mixed. The food was divine - from the scallop and peaches starter, to the Caesar salad, main courses, and dessert. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this restaurant. We will be back.
It was very busy when we arrived. Apparently there were a lot of people arriving at 7 PM. The staff was "in the weeds". We were seated at the bar and the bartender was very apologetic because we had to wait a few minutes longer. I told him we were in no hurry, take his time, we weren't going anywhere. The woman who greeted us was behind the bar and I told her the same thing. They took excellent care of us. The food was wonderful. The one list offered a nice selection and the prices seemed very reasonable. I was there with my ex-wife. We have this odd habit of celebrating our anniversary every year. We have gone to 3 Doors Down in the past, but not for several years. She said we haven't been there in years. Want to see if it is still as good? We did and it was. And whatever delay we experienced was more than made up for by their wonderful staff. We'll go back.
Have been coming to Three Doors Down for years. Most of the time I would say that it was a great meal, this time, however I found it to be underwhelming. First, the bar was out of one of the ingredients for a simple drink, then they forgot to bring one of the drinks out, followed by them forgetting to bring one of the entrees. While the food was good, it was not outstanding. My meat eating friends loved the steak and the pork, but no one thought the pasta dishes where anything special. And, being that this is an Italian restaurant, we all expected better. For a quick bite or happy hour, I would recommend but I will probably choose another restaurant in the future when I am craving Italian food.
My wife I have lived in Portland for years, but didn't discover this yummy gem of a spot until this week. I had the Halibut which was the best I've ever had. and my wife had the pasta with marinara sauce. We started with panko breaded marinated mushrooms dipped in horseradish sauce. We can not wait to go back.
The scallops were outstanding, as was the Tiramisu. My entree of pasta in vodka cream sauce with Italian sausages was very good, but my friend did not find her pasta with clams as flavorful or as interesting as mine. The waitress was very nice, but the service overall was not nearly as outstanding as my last visit when I had an older gentleman who waited on us. She forgot to refill drinks, replace silverware, and completely forgot the coffee I ordered with dessert. Perhaps she was waiting on too many tables. I wasn’t upset with her, just a bit disappointed. Overall, a very good and relaxing place to spend an evening with friends.
The food is always amazing as is the service...never disappointing!
My husband, mom, brother and me all dined on Friday evening. The food and service were excellent, as always.
The absolute highlight was desert. 3 doors down has the very best tiramisu and banana cream pie in Portland, and possibly the whole US.
Jackie (sorry if I misspell her name) was, as usual, outstanding. Wonderful food. My two guests (from Saint Louis, another excellent food town) were both happy with the experience--food, service, menu, everything, except:
Only the noise level troubles me about my meals at 3 Doors Down. I wish you could soften the hard, echoing surfaces...
This is a real gem. I have taken visitors here and without exception, they always rave about it. Spaghetti and meatballs special on Sunday's is to die for.
Excellent food, romantic setting, BANANA PIE ❤ good wine, service was a little slow, but that was ok gave us time to talk, transients sleeping on the street around area was DISGUSTING, but that's Portland..
Pate and Steamer Clams (and its broth) very good. Carlton pork cooked perfectly. Lastly, Banana cream pie very velvety. A dinner experience to enjoy!
Excellent as always! Been coming here for roughly 20 years and never disappoints.
Always Great must go to appreciate, the best. Not to be missed.
Wonderful, as always!!!
Always one of our favorites. Great food, Great service. Great atmosphere.
A neighborhood gem, with very good food, wine, and exceptional service.
The food, as usual, was terrific, even better than terrific. Great scallops, fabulous halibut, and etc. We love this place.
The food is always excellent - BUT the SERVICE pushes this place so far over the top. Portland has great places to eat but the service here always makes us want to go back!
